Wilder - Get Rid Now, or After Last Game

3 good managers there Nick (as it stands) but I think in September not alot would've been happy with them as an appointment? Not sure.

I knew soon as CW came in we'd be safe and thats all I wanted from this season. No L1.
I think a lot of us would have been happy with one of them, but one of the problems we have is the fan base is split and has been since Wilder came back the first time. Eventually we’ll get a manager who reunites us, but we’re a way off that at the moment.

Give him one more season and then move him on no matter where we finish. Whether the owners will agree with me is another matter.

No team has lost first 6 games and stayed up. Mathematically I know we aint safe but thats some achievement if we get over the line. And yes. You dont lose 6 games and go up

We were 4 points off safety after 5 matches and we’ve got a decent squad.

Let’s not pretend we’ve pulled off some sort of great escape.

He claimed to have reconnected the club when he first came and it's one of his lines that he likes to use. Like many, I wasn't disconnected, just tired of the crap style of play we'd been served up.

This forum and others prove that his presence splits the fan base now.

Apparently, those who criticise him or the team are now 'reactionary'.

Reactionary suggests an immediate response to recent events.

His 'style' of play last season blew auto and a PO final after bottling games against our promotion rivals. We lacked fitness, resilience and any ability to cope with pressure.

He's had 2 seasons to sort the fitness problem and ability to attack teams, but hasn't.

Not reactionary at all. People are talking about long term issues that he and his back room team creates. Professional athletes?

Next cliché already in play - it'll be better next season.

We'll see.

He polarises the fans and we see that on here every week. On the one hand if anyone makes even the slightest criticism of him they are immediately labelled “Wilder haters” by the mentally lazy. On the other hand every setback results in a chorus of “Wilder out” and accusations that anyone who supports him is part of a cult. Both extremes are unhelpful and stifle reasoned debate, but that’s where we are and where we will continue to be for a long time yet.

I think we will occasionally make the playoffs, but basically we are now set to join the likes of West Brom, Norwich and Stoke.
We've joined them already, probably the owners after next season might sell up, and we could drift even further, lack of new ideas in recruitment! Fitness issues again, keep signing crocks & last pay day players, we never learn. And eventually take Wednesdays place in L1, while they go on yet another adventure in the champions league.... the last sentence is what there fans keep telling me😂😂

There are plenty of people I would want handling transfer business. None of whom I would want doing first team coaching at the same time. For any club remotely describing itself as operating in the 21st century, those are two different jobs.
You think Pep doesn’t get the players he wants? Really. And no, I’m not comparing Wilder to Pep before you go off on one!

He polarises a tiny section of fans in the online echo chamber. A large number of fans also on that echo chamber are not polarised. And outside this interesting but really weird environment and other social media, unless you we have some psychic powers, we genuinely have no idea. This is all impassioned people’s ideas, views and thoughts. Apart from data (and we all know the quote about statistics) there is very little fact on here - I guess that is part of the fun.

Decent squad, have you seen our attackers 😂
And what do you want for the end of this season and next season ?
Of course it would be amazing to compete in the PL but actually, as as blade I’d settle for consistently challenging for play offs in the hope of a breakthrough alongside a balance of football that leans towards the exciting end of the spectrum.

Could those new ideas in recruitment include keeping then replacing managers more intelligently, allowing them not to have to rely on a bunch of trash brought in by someone else forcing them to identify non contracted players to save our bacon (and no I don’t think they would have been part of Wilders plan had he not been sacked and forced into this approach). I’m actually surprised how well this nightmare approach has worked.

No. At this point there is polarisation. Everyone has a view one way or another, which is why it is constantly such a big talking point. And by no means just on here. I live and work in Sheffield and get to converse with a lot of fans, including those who sit around me at games. It is always a talking point, and pretending it isn’t serves no purpose. No psychic powers needed to understand that.

Forest literally had a worse start to their season in the year that they beat us in the playoffs.

You’re talking about what a great achievement staying up would be as if it’s some miracle when we do have a stronger squad than a lot of other teams in this competition.

The start was atrocious, no one is glossing over that, but the reason we’re not troubling the playoffs is only partially down to that first 5 games under Selles.

It’s equally a result of our complete lack of game management, leading to us capitulating 24 points from winning positions since Wilder came back in.

He's going nowhere for at least 8 months or so, even then I doubt the owners would jump again unless we are struggling.

I would be all for replacing him in the summer if the structure was in place to allow a different type of manager to flourish.
But it's not - and it won't be. So Wilder carries on unless we want a repeat of the Selles disaster.
Great a season full of games like WBA & Norwich, and more signings like January.

Quick get those season ticket sales on i need to snap mine up.

The board need to be on this because I can only see one way in which season ticket sales are going too go and it's not up.

I don’t think I could cope with one more season with Wilder.
The rebuild needs too start now not in another 15 months.
You’re going to have to cope because he won’t be going anywhere unless it becomes clear towards the end of next season that we won’t be troubling the play offs. And I think that’s unlikely because I think we’ll be in contention for the top 8 next season. And that’s probably our realistic ceiling for the foreseeable future unless something at the club other than the manager changes.

The players love him he’s one of the lads
You have no idea who might be harbouring negative feelings, mistrust or perhaps resentment toward him.
They are humans with emotions and rarely in life is a group 100% connected.
Of course we all want to believe every last man "loves" him,but I think it's an unrealistic claim for which there can be no empirical evidence.
Unless you have some🤔👍

Then I will have to make a decision about renewing my season ticket for next season.
I am struggling to motivate myself to go to the remaining games and after last Saturday's bore feast the thought of 23 games like that next season is not exactly making me in a rush to part with my money.

I bumped into my mate Mick in Morrisons in Hillsborough this morning. I was with him when we were relegated at Stamford Bridge, we go back a long way. Well known to a lot of Blades fans because of his business - he’s put quite a bit of sponsorship in over the years. Mick was a season ticket holder for 50 years, but didn’t renew last summer because he didn’t find last season at all enjoyable. He gets to a few matches as a sponsor’s guest, but I’ve missed seeing him around.

I’ll still be renewing because I’m in for the long haul no matter what division we’re in, and elements of match day are more important to me than what happens on the pitch. But I wouldn’t criticise anyone who didn’t renew. It’s supposed to be entertainment.

Love this 'part of the problem' line.
You’re implying that he’s the only person who’s capable of successfully managing Sheffield United.

It’s that sort of mentality that will see the club stagnate.

You absolutely are part of the problem if you think Wilder is the only candidate to manage this football club.

Good post - but I don't quite agree with him polarising fans, any more than ANY manager will.

After "6 months" , just about everywhere, fans are split on a new manager. The only time I've ever witnessed a truly united fanbase for a prolonged period was after Wilder mark 1. That's not in support if him, just a suggestion as to how rare it is.
