Hamers attitude

Has anyone thought that he may have been told to get a yellow? Miss the Norwich and Brum games so that he's available for Wrexham? He was going to get that yellow sooner or later so why not now?

I'm not on the get rid side. We are not going ro get better than Hamer in midfield next season. Sign him up again, he's only 28 and still has 4 to 5 good years in him.
May as well of got a straight red and miss all three. Win win for all 👍

Why is playing against Wrexham more important than playing against Norwich or Birmingham?
Maybe Wilder prefers Hamer for the home games than the away games? I dont really know.

After we have played at Birmingham on Saturday then in the next 7 games, we are at home in 5 of them.

It did look like that. He should've been booked in the first half, too, actually. He seemed intent on getting a yellow.

Must admit from where I sit, it looked as if hamer was looking at wilder before he initiated contact and that it was done to get a card. I'm probably reading too much into it but it stood out to me at the time

No bloody wonder he mistimed it if he was looking at Chrisseh

Outrageously talented player. Only the physical side and innate risk taking stops him being a Prem player.

But he'd be a great signing for Coventry and you'd THINK Lampard would know how to use a mercurial midfielder like him. Mark Robins certainly did.

I'm not having a dig at Wilder but Gus isn't a left winger, however well he did last season.

We’ve got to treat next year as a breath of fresh air and new era, and as much as I have loved watching Hamer, it’s just time for it to end.

The only issue with having a breath of fresh air year next year is the money we’ve thrown down the drain on expensive wages as we’ll be watching Bamford, Rothwell, Ings, Mee and swanning around earning over £100k a week between em effectively contributing naff all

I agree with part of that. But Bamford and Rothwell will probably be important players and the other two probably will be gone in the summer(?) with expired contracts.

Didn't have his best game, but still put the cross in for the goal, and if Sydie's header went in would have had another...he asi made a good recovery tackle in the left back area in front of the kop.
Without his assists we'd struggle.

When he was with us we had a squad of dross and 3 good players. We had Hamer and Gyokeres scoring and setting up all the goals that made up for those we constantly let in. Hamer ran the show nearly every game in the middle. The second best 1.5m we ever spent. He is limited on the left. In the middle he can put them balls in on both sides that releases players.

Selles played him in a central role and he was atrocious. I do feel hes been better on left but dare say whats around him matters too

I would tend to ignore what happened under Selles. Your squad was much better than that.

The one thing you're missing with him being on the left is his passing ability. It's second to none. With him in the middle he can put the killer ball in anywhere a player finds space. He had a great understanding with O'Hare who would go anywhere on the pitch and Hamer would play him the perfect ball.

He's a moments player now. A great goal or assist covering up for a multitude of sins. Our team looks more balanced without him in it despite us not really having a multitude of top players out wide or in advanced midfield positions. He has improved a bit as the season has gone on as he looks a bit fitter (same with a lot of our team tbf).

Fans of other clubs see the highlight reelsand voted him POTY last season (laughable if you watched our games). Still, I'd much rather have him than not unless we're talking 8-10 million. Like Campbell if he sorts out his body and attitude he could go on a tear next season

Gary Neville - limited ability, not pacy - but wringed every ounce out to make a very successful career

Kinda can’t help but feel Gus could have been so much better than top end championship with a stronger application

It’s frustration for me as he does things no one else in this squad sees, let alone can pull off on his day
Probably why he ended up playing central midfield for a middling Coventry team and then only got to join a team that were dead certs for relegation.

When we went to two central midfielders it was inevitable he’d be shunted out wide as he turns over possession too much and in a 4-2-3-1 he can’t be trusted in a two and Souza was better alongside a fit Arblaster. Just a question of whether Hamer or O’Hare went central in the three. I think both are perhaps more suited to a three, but we don’t play 4-3-3, though with Brooks and Bamford it would only take the right wide player to make this happen.

With lesser players this season there is an argument to have made him more of a focal point and gone 4-3-3, a bit like Wednesday often used to do with Bannan.

The last time we tried Hamer in the middle was the Norwich home game. Gus came on at 58 minutes for Arblaster. At that point we started to get blitzed in the middle of the park until we conceded. They were knocking on the door for another until we moved Gus back wide. We were that desperate to stop the bleeding in the middle of the park that Matos was subbed on (the only available option) and was preferred to Gus in the middle as he was floundering. At that point we regained control looking the more likely to get a winner. Gus himself had a good shot saved from his more advanced position.

He won player of the year last season for a reason. He's been off it this season and yet still has the most assists in the league, which tells you what a player he is. He'll be gone in the summer, but certainly wish him well and have loved watching him for the past three years.

Blades player gives ball away trying to do something positive = “he’s shit, get rid”

Blades players runs around a lot but does nothing productive = “get statue int car park”

Then you’ve got Coventry fans on the thread telling us how best to use last season’s Championship player of the year after he chose to leave them and come to us because they’ve happened on their one good season in the last 25 years. Shoot me.

I'll shoot you.

Cost us £1.5m. We played him central in a team mostly sh1te. He helped us to the final of the playoffs where we were the better side against Luton until he picked up an injury, then we lost on penalties.

But of course you're right because you play him on the left where he hasn't been as influential since leaving us.

Cheers for the offer.

How many times did he win Championship player of the year at Coventry?

How do you measure ‘influence’? I’d say last season with 10 goals, 8 assists and championship player of the season, added to the 9 assists and 2 goals in an underperforming and average side this season is pretty good.

In his best season for you he got 11 goals and 10 assists. It’s hardly ‘night and day’ is it?!
