Interesting season ticket holder survey.

I just received an email from the club asking why I'm missing so many games as a season ticket holder. I wonder if other people have the same and whether the club is concerned with midweek drop offs due to red button et al? Maybe it's a nod towards a move to selling on season ticket seats when the ground is sold out (Prem etc).

*In my case it's chronic illness that has got worse the last few years. I maintain my ticket on the Kop anyway as I like my seat (and have friends/family there), don't want the bother of buying matchday tickets and perhaps foolishly feel I'm legitimising my whining by financially contributing via a season ticket.

You can transfer to people on your friends and family list

I got one as well - the mail said “one or more” and I’ve only missed 2; they’ll just have run a query to find any STH that have a “missed” game showing; certainly nothing to think they are going to start selling your season ticket off.
It may even be a positive thing from the American owners; understanding the fan experience bullshit and all that

I rarely miss a game but this Saturday I've managed to transfer my phone ticket to a friend (it was fairly straightforward). It used to be so much simpler when you just had a card. I haven't received an email

Also had this. Can't help having been ill for big chunks of the season. That, and travelling from not exactly close, makes me miss a bunch, and with the season being dead 10% of the way in, I'm not going to push myself for the sake of it and make things worse

Some clubs confiscate season tickets for this. Though I doubt we're about to go down that route. No need if we're not selling out

I've missed the Oxford and Boro games owing to being struck down with the flu. Once upon a time I'd have battled through and dragged myself there but these days I can't be arsed to do that, especially with them being so readily available to watch on TV.
I'll be giving up my season ticket of 35 years next season so maybe I've just lost enthusiasm too.

Man City are known to be targeting long term ST holders - especially those sitting in "premium" areas of the ground. They would far rather have the tickets available for one off purchases as day tripper spend more on tickets and when in the ground...

That's the case , whole family have had STs for years . Obviously they know when tickets are transferred electronically.

One of them currently studying abroad

Ive suggested they get a burner phone to pass tickets on rather than electronically.

I have given up on night games my knees are phucked, parking close to the ground is an issue without a blue badge. Even using public transport is an issue. Buses into Sheffield are every 1 hour 40 mins after tea time if I were to miss one home the next would be the last bus getting me home after 00.15am. For Sunday games buses are an issue 1 every hour at best, can't get a train to Worksop late at night either. I usually park the car up at Halfway and get the tram in, the walk from the tram stop is starting to be a struggle, sitting cramped up on the kop don't help at all. I can't justify the price of a ST on the south stand if I don't get to every game I am slowly being priced out.

I got one as well, I was on Holiday for the ones highlighted though. I find 8.00pm evening kick offs too much, I don't get home until 11.00. Also red button is tempting when its chucking it down or snowing. All they should worry about is if we have paid or not, it doesn't say you cant have a life beyond Sheffield United or choose to miss a game.

You can get paper tickets from the Ticket Office. My wife parks in BL so not an issue for me.

I've missed few midweek, mostly because I don't like sitting in the cold anymore and my last bus is a bastard for not showing up. (Stagecoach 50)

It's convenient in that you don't need to physically get the card of someone who decides not to come at the last minute, and the person you transfer it to gets it emailed directly to them so you don't need to be able to meet them before the game to hand it over- handy for those evening KOs where everyone is rushing about after work.

I've considered the same but probably won't. We've gone from 4 STs for a few years to 2 this season (kids growing up and not being bothered). I'm not a fan of night matches generally, and the constant changing from 3pm kickoffs compounds it.

I agree with all of that. I suppose my issue is that I rarely transfer my ticket and my memory is such that I will have to go through the rigmarole of remembering/looking up how to do it

Do what my dad does and get a younger person to do it for you!! Alternatively the Ticket Office will do it over the phone if you can give them customer numbers

Not reached that stage yet! But it's worth knowing re the ticket office.

It'll be a shame as I've generally always enjoyed it - but I have found myself missing more games and having to force myself to others, especially night matches. I guess other areas of life take over and now feels a natural point to do something else. I'll still attend regularly, but will probably pick and choose my fixtures.

I have to admit the way the game is now is putting me off too - I hate that flair and spontaneity is being coached out of players in favour of playing percentages. I find it mind-numbingly dull a lot of the time, especially the Premier League and have little desire to see us there again anytime soon.

If that is true then its probably a consequence of our ticket pricing decisions.

ST are such good value when you compare to pay on the gate prices - its probably worth getting a ST even if you are going to miss (on average) 5 or 6 games.

Do the club care you aren`t attending? I'd like to think they do - why they care is a different matter...

He states that the club is happy with level of ST’s and has no intention of re introducing half ST’s.

He also said that as we rarely sell out the purchase by the club of ST’s for individual games if a fan cannot attend is not on the agenda. He reiterated the transfer of seats to another fan as the other option which is fair. I’ve done this whilst away at the Ashes and it’s v easy to do.

No mention of ST attendance levels.

Asked him if they’re actively looking at loyalty points system and he didn’t confirm that is happening.
