I personally think it is good, it makes the league more exciting and clubs will be open to spend more in January to gamble on getting 7th or 8th place.

I do think they should have done this instead though and only increase it by 1 team instead of 2:

3rd get an automatic place in the play-off final.

4th play 7th in a quarter final (4th have home advantage)
5th play 6th in a quarter final (5th have home advantage)

Then the winner of those 2 teams play each other in a 2 leg semi final and the winner of that gets to play 3rd place at Wembley.

Then it actually makes finishing 3rd worth it.

Don't like it.

Relegated teams are often in a bit of turmoil as they move players on and get replacements.

This just means they can start of poorly, bring players in by throwing money around in January and get in the playoffs.

Pretty much like what we were trying to do this year.

As always, the rule change will suit the wealthy.

It probably suits us, but I don't like it at all. As noted above, it's likely to have a weird impact on the January transfer window.

It makes a mockery of the league and is turning more into the MLS where half the teams get into a play-off.

What is the actual point in the league table then and playing 46 games to see in which order the teams are best?

Imagine a final 8th v 3rd and 8th place won. This is not sporting merit, its all about money. Why oh why everyone nowadays is soooo obsessed about money, it doesn't go with you when you die ffs. It's just getting so in your face now it's disgusting.

there's 2 types of football , league a measure of your consistency over 46 games
and cup football , win on the day games

the play offs mean like we saw a team can get 90 points and team now in could in theory get a chance ,maybe 66 points gets a chance getting 59.4% of the points the 3rd place
had we been auto promoted as 3rd the 3 times we have wed be in front of owls in years at the top , which we earned playing for points but putting it to a win on the day cup match its a different dynamic

Are you saying have no playoffs at all? Or just keep as is?

If it was just top 3 promoted then the teams currently in 7th to 17th would have nothing to play for. That would be a pretty shit situation when half the division have nothing to play for with 11 matches still to play.

I’m happy with playoffs, but going to penalties is nonsense. Playoffs should just be a chance for a lower ranked team to beat a higher ranked team. If they can’t do that after extra time then the higher ranked team should progress. Penalties are just theatre - I mean you could end up with promotion decided by a keeper missing one!!!!

This would make extra time better as well, as one team would always have to score or they would lose. At present it tends to be very negative as both teams are afraid to take risks.

UTB & FTP!

I can understand the argument for play offs and I can see it gives teams in the top half of the league more to play for. But - I was quite happy with 2 up 2 down.
If we must have this change there should be a proper advantage for the higher placed team - it could be ridiculously complicated though. The 3rd placed team should start with a 2 goal lead, 4th placed with a 1 goal and this should apply in each round. If the 3rd placed play the 4th placed in the final the 3rd placed should start 2-1 up

York finished on 2nd in last seasons national league 23 points above 8th placed Oldham who went up via the play offs .. makes a mockery of a 46 season

Anything that means we might get in the playoffs more often is a negative as far as I'm concerned. 8th place will no longer be safe.

Shite

It's bad enough being beaten in the play offs by someone who finishes 15 points behind you

But obviously that's not enough

What do they want next, 25 points? Why not

Fuck it, nothing matters, change everything for the sake of change, while nothing actually gets better

I am very tired of it all

I think they should have 8 teams and use this game format.

Playoff Quarter Finals...........3rd v 10th.....4th v 9th.....5th v 8th......6th v 7th........................One match at highest placed teams ground.

Playoff Semi Final ................Winner of 3rd v 10th v Winner of 5th v 8th............................Two legged matches home and away.

Playoff Semi Final .................Winner of 4th v 9th v Winner of 6th v 7th............................Two legged matches home and away.

Playoff Final at Wembley

Teams qualified could rest players making a farce of the season and possibly effecting relegation or other teams attempting to make the play offs .

Terrible decision

So pleased some of our fans aren’t running the club….they have no idea about business.

Just look at the facts. Has the play-offs been a success?
Yes of course, extends the season for so many clubs, more excitement and brings in extra revenue.

Think the current play-off situation 3rd to 6th is probably ideal.

However in the national league they’ve included 7th and 8th
With a stronger weightining for 3rd and 4th, as these auto go into the semi final
Whilst 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th have to battle it out first.

Those in the national league think the new play-off format has been a success.

So it was inevitable that 1 day the other leagues would need to decide if they should copy the National league.

Any change is scary for Sheffield folk but the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, keeps the season alive for more clubs.
Also due to the weighted format….its going to be much tougher for a club finishing 8th to win the play-offs compared to a club finishing 3rd.

The PL have become a massive commercial success, big TV deals and clubs like Arsenal, Man Utd and Liverpool could fill a 120K stadium every match.
So it’s about time the EFL stopped resting on its laurels and did something to bring commercial success to the EFL.

No that’s over done….to many teams and whoever finishes 10th has a reasonable chance of winning the play-offs and that is wrong.

The new format is best….where whoever finished 3rd and 4th have a huge advantage over the other clubs.

Yeh that’s a decent point.
Altho we get that in the current play-off set up too.

Last season Sunderland qualified a few weeks before the season ended…started playing weaker teams resting players
And they went totally out of form…..they weren’t that great in the semi-final either but still won the play-offs.

That's just silly, however they should be more advantage to higher placed teams, and it will be tricky to fit in 3 games.
I'd have gone..
5 v 8 1 game
6 v 7 1 game
3 v winner of 6v7 1 game
4 v winner of 5v8
