Bored of this season and I miss the transfer window. Thought I'd take a look at players with expiring contracts this summer - as it seems like that'll be our market.

Tommy Doyle (Wolves) - Hasn't nailed a place down in the Birmingham starting 11, so unsure if they'd be that interested in getting him permanently. A known quantity and would be a decent Peck replacement, if he ended up moving on.

Sondre Tronstad (Blackburn) - Not usually a fan of going for 30 year old's, but Tronstrad is a very solid, consistent upper-championship defensive midfielder. A ready made replacement for Soumare, Matos and Phillips.

Zac Swanson (Portsmouth) - Thought he handled Brooks incredibly well in our match recently. It's no coincidence Brooks only scored after Swanson was subbed off. Can cover both left and right back, so would be a nice backup if we're lucky enough to start next season with McCallum and Seriki.

Connor Hazard (Plymouth) - Bumped to number one after this Michael Cooper fella ran off to some Yorkshire team. Was statistically one of the best keepers in the league despite turning out for a terrible Plymouth side - preventing 8.8 xGoals over the course of the season. Only Trafford, Johansson and Cumming did better.

Ben WIlmot (Stoke) - There's no harder bastard than a Stoke centre back. Not really turned into the premier league CB it looked like he was destined to be 3 or 4 years ago - but would instantly be a step up from McGuinness.

Id be looking at..

Ross Stewart
Daniel Fry - (depending on if boro want to keep him for next season)
Perry Ng
Josh Laurent

All sorts of decent out of contract options in the EFL. Some already mentioned in this thread.

Barely any from the Prem. Simon Moore (our one) probably the most realistic/notable... And he would likely be an upgrade on Adam Davies.

I may just be an incredibly sad person- but in my younger days of being completely addicted to Championship/Football Manager, I'd almost exclusively sign free transfers - even when rolling in pretend money. It just makes so much sense - albeit in the real world "free transfers" can mean bulked up signing fees and salaries.

S Thomas the Left side midfielder for Stoke

Sorba Thomas is a tricky winger but is one of those wingers that just wants to beat his man again and again rather than get a cross in.

I did rate him at Huddersfield but having seen him recently for Stoke I thought his end product was quite poor.

Stewart a good shout - exactly the type we need to support/rotate with Bamford
He'd be on top of my list, hes exactly what we need, he is different type of player to Bamford and would bully defenders more. I think him and bamford as a two would be excellent next season (if we are having pacey wingers to put crosses into box).

Only slight concern would be his fitness record.

Hasn't concerned our recruitment department yet !

Assuming we don't offer any deals to anyone, permanently contracted players who'll be leaving are:
Mee
Ings
T.Davies
A.Davies
Riedewald has an option for next season.

plus the loanees if we don't try and keep any of them around next season.

Not sure that we'll be especially gutted to see any of them leave apart from Jairo and improving on either their abilities or their output won't be especially hard.

I'd imagine as well that a lot of the AI signings are ones we'll try and move on permanently plus maybe send Matos and McGuinness out to League One if we can get better replacements in.

Desperately needed are:
Young up and coming keeper who can challenge Cooper and doesn't give us all palpitations if he has to step in.
Striker who can trouble the scorers and isn't blowing out of his arse after 10 minutes - could One feature a bit more?
At least one CB who is worthy of starting every week.
A right back, maybe two if Seriki gets picked up by a PL club (is Curtis capable of a step up?).
A capable CM if Peck goes too.
Some youth teamers who can step up and fill in when necessary.

ross stewart is a good shout and i certainly wouldnt be adverse to us signing tommy doyle hes a wilder type of player and played his best football when he was with us centre backs wily boly and joe worrall mikey thomas from baggies for the right side and know its another leeds player but think piroe would be great with bamford up top as well as maybe a loan move for osula

100% theres an obligation to buy. I remember it well
I remember talks of it but with him out of contract in June seems odd (unless wolves have an option to extend an extra year).

Ive just checked and its £5m based upon Birmingham getting promoted this season.

Good chance we can still be in for him in the summer.

With peck, arblaster, rothwell, reidewald available, barring a sale I cant see it unfortunately.

Not sure I agree with this. I think crossing and set pieces may be his strongest attributes?

Zac Swanson has been playing really well at Portsmouth. There will be lots of takers and he'd probably be looking for a starting role.

My last point came accross wrong, I didnt articulate it very well, I meant their obligation is based upon them winning promotion and currently theres a good chance they dont. So, if we wanted to theres still a good chance hes available.

I get your point, but it all depends on arblasters pre season, to see if he can restore any sort of mobility about him, I feel doyle would be better currently and better suited to play with all above mentioned midfielders in any combo.

Although, as you said can't see it & me neither. We need another defensive option to rotate with JR & someone with pace & athleticism in the middle.

(could see wilder trying a cheeky bid for Hamza)
