Home truths

Apart from Ipswich and Birmingham…

Well our record this season against the top half teams is hardly tip top. We just cant keep a clean sheet. In front tonight, better team... 9 mins later we are losing. Not good enough. We are flat-track bullies.

The real home truth is - we didn’t outplay em, they let us have the ball in non-threatening areas which upped our possession stats and bar a couple of chances held us at arms length. Their defensive shape was spot on and Wilder couldn’t break it down. It was the perfect away performance and what we have done to teams in seasons gone by. Suck it up. Lampard got it right.

Not saying it is, just pointing out that the comment made in that instance was wrong.

not enough quality im afraid especially in final 3rd apart from bamford the money were paying for phillips should have been spent on another striker and winger and boy did we make some bad decisions tonight as well as some stupid passes in dangerous areas good clearout this summer needed and at least 5 good quality championship players needed before august as for wilder i will give him one more.chance next season but im not convinced hes the right man for the job
I wasn’t in the Wilder MK2 camp never mind Wilder Mk3, however the option to make the change was in the summer and the board was duped into backing the wrong horse. When we recruited again we went back with what we know probably for cost reasons on the payout etc. The club needs some stability now with the manager and the board need to be sensible in how they back him. Unless we keep Bamford fit and have a strike partner to feed off him I can’t see us hitting the big time any time soon so we may as well rebuild and bring some academy players through, build the infrastructure on the back of sales to Premier League clubs, get loans in from there too and build under Wilder over the next 5 years

We need to stop this talk of “Selles fucked this season” - he were here for five games, the players have the mentality of gerbils as evidenced by the countless times we’ve done ahead, and folded like a deckchair under the first sign of pressure.
Considering we are 9pts off the playoffs 3 of those games could have been wins.... Just a thought

I would chuck Cooper into the mix to be honest, has credit in the bank from last season, but cannot dive or kick properly this season. Not had meaningful competition or adequate deputy for years

Brooks is decent but a one in four performer. His body language 2nd half tonight was poor. Looking to be subbed 10 minutes before it eventually happened.

We had plenty of shots but can barely remember Rushworth making any sort of meaningful save.

Weak and standoffish at the back and not clinical enough when it matters. Compare it to Coventry who kept us at bay despite our possession and took their chances when they came. It was a game I expected nothing from and it delivered exactly that but it stings when you get in front and have the chance to spring a bit of an upset.

Everything stems back to the summer bingo machine recruitment where we've basically tried to rebuild a hashed together squad as we went through the season. Coventry and Boro had theirs sorted by the end of August and did things properly.

Stability and clarity no matter what business you're in goes a long way and we won't get either of those until the summer.

Wilder's doing a decent job in the circumstances but red cards and daft decisions from our players when it comes to the crunch is where we keep falling down.

Weve battered these and somehow lost. Missing that bit of quality- and luck - ref was 12 v 11 first half
Oh ffs let’s blame everyone except us we were the better team first half but they opened us up a number of times and some of our defending was panic struck second half they were clinical something we aren’t

Sick and tired of hearing fans excusing blaming selles

Did they forget how we threw away the play off final?!?!? It’s the same old sh*t!! We take the lead then we concede!!! Time and time again!!

Agree on the Tanganga shout, he has been a very disappointing signing for what we paid for him and doesn't lead by example so shouldn't be the captain.
The Brooks shout is absolutely ludicrous though. He will play in the Premier League.

It will likely be Brooks and Seriki we have to sell in the summer as we are going to be stuck with bang average players on high wages who we won't be able to shift (Tanganga, Cannon, Chong, McGuinnes, Matos etc).

Cant beat the top 6 sides..

Wrexham
Coventry
Middlesbrough
Etc

But any unemotional neutral would say we were the better team tonight.

We controlled most of the match and forced Coventry to defend deep in numbers.
Altho Cov didn’t attack much….do agree they we’re dangerous on the break.

Don’t feel too bad tonight. The performance was more than acceptable and it was a good game, a good advert for Championship football.
Always say players can control/ legislate for performances but you can’t always control the result.

Boils down to mental and physical strength. We have very few players who have pace, power or excellent athleticism. Until we address this we are going nowhere

I’d say many of the passes were sloppy rather than stupid. Quite annoying at times.

Sariki and Brooks down our right look very good ,we need to keep them together for next season.

One major problem.tonight and in other games is our build up from the back is so SLOW. Result is by the time we get to the Coventry penalty area they have 6 or 7 players plus keeper there and all organised. Hence virtually all our shots were blocked. We need to be able to attack with more speed.

Can’t attack with speed with Soumare and Peck in MF.

We aren't good enough at centre back

It was obvious before January and it is obvious after

But Bindon had a good couple of games so we were obligated not to sign one

Did sign Phillips though. Who is a retarded waste of money and was always likely to be. His only legacy now will be costing us a 4-0 win against Wednesday

This team is simply too fragile to be serious

And our fans have no energy or enthusiasm at all which doesn't help

We've wasted this season and it's going to be hard to work a better opportunity

Glad someone else sees this. We have reverted back to taking another 5 touches when 1 will do. We seem to do this from time to time when we go all safe and forget the one touch passing. We won the ball back, slooooooooowed it down, let them filter back into position, and then looked to score the inch perfect goal. They attacked at pace...and won the game.
