The idea that they will simply bounce back from League One is laughable. Apart from getting lucky during the Ched season, the last couple of time they have been down there they only managed to climb back through the Play-Offs. The final v Hartlepool went to extra time, and most recently they were very lucky with the Peterborough collapse (aka the "Miracle of Hillsborough") and lucky again against Barnsley.

With the potential of another points deduction in League One next season it's very likely that we won't play them again for a long, long time.

That's not the way they'll get out of league one mate.

More historic than Denis Law scoring for Man U against his former club Man City and thus relegating City?

Newton Heath would have been relegated regardless of the result in the City match. They started the day 3 points behind fourth-bottom Birmingham City and four points behind 5th bottom West Ham with 2 matches to play (2 points for a win) but Birmingham's win and West Ham's draw made the result of the Manchester derby academic.

Really?
I didn't know that.
Thank you 👍

Yeah, me too. Wait a minute, no, I’m over it already.

Seriously, the way I felt after Phillips was sent off and they got a goal back, with all those United insecurities plus memories of Sunderland at Wembley going around my head, I was bloody delighted with the outcome.
When they scored, I had a nasty premonition that they would win. God the only game they would win in Sheffield all season would be at us.

Thank fully, this didn't happen, and we can bask in the glow of relegating them. I just regret not rubbing their snouts into the ground with a statement big win. Since 2017 we have been so dominant and it would be great to have done this.

But no drama, we move on, as do they. Their fans think they will rebuild and be the next Coventry. Let's see.

I don't live in Sheffield so I don't have to live with the 'banter'. I do, however, have a cousin who is an Owl. He is really quite reasonable, not in the least deluded. He messaged me after the game, asking if I was not embarrassed that it was only 2-1. I replied jokingly, that we had felt sorry for them and laid off at 2-0. He completely blew a gasket. His brother and sister joined in with increasingly insulting messages.
He has apologised this morning, but was keen to point out that no way did we go easy on them.
I suggest this might be the easiest way to wind the more deluded Owls.

they only got away with 2 - 1 because of the sending off proved it late on when it was 10 v 10 we were just walking through them and missed 3 great chances phillips cost us any chance of drubbing them 5 or 6 nil

Fair comments. Now I've had a little sleep on it I am quite disappointed with our measly 3 points and making an attempt to close the play off gap.

I wish we'd have won the match and relegation like they did

Cheers Panchero!

Have these sad sacks realised they are relegated, have only won one game this season and are on minus points?

Their fate as one of the worst football league clubs going is completely oblivious to them, isn't it?

I've seen them online putting up the blockers telling anyone who will listen - no-one - that we didn't relegate them, they actually 'won' yesterday, they were relegated because of Chansiri, we have not avenged Boxing Day but really ... all of that is just froth compared to the fact that they are going south and they will have a reyt job coming back, looking more like Bristol Rovers or Port Vale as 'the other city club'. And look ... that horrid, death-trap of a stadium that has the Mark of Cain on it will be ever likely to be condemned, closed, section by section and the raw attraction of discounted season tickets to watch poor players slogging it out will become less of a necessity.

They are done, and we did it.

“They’re never going to get us back for Boxing Day 1979 are they”

Well erm we've just put the final nail in your coffin you stupid cunts. & At the same time beat you for the 4th time in a row!!

Even if we'd won by 4 or more, it still wouldn't have counted.Because of their current dismal situation, this season is a free pass and nothing counts.

We doubled them 2-0 last season.

We doubled them 5-1 this season.

Our last eight meetings has given an overall score of 11-3 in our favour, 15pts for us, 0 for them.

Only Wednesday can look at the above and see positives.

It's 18 for us and 3 for them.

Are there any other club rivalries where one team dines out on a win 33 yrs ago, a nil nil and refuses to accept that they are shit and have been shit for years?
Think someone’s poisoned the pig trough.

Unusually, Sky put it the best, getting relegated at the Lane was their worst nightmare come true.

Most of them won't own it though due to their permanent state of denial.

The Express put it quite nicely as well, "As for United, they will never forget the day they relegated Wednesday - when footballing history was made in Sheffield."

Wednesday fans listing United's 'shit house players', something Wednesday would never do of course. Only two of the players listed....played for Wednesday as well.

Yes but in years to come nobody will remember the details. Apart from 'The day United relegated Wednesday'.
