George Long or Mark Howard?

Are you serious they are both as bad at kicking, I mean they have to kick a ball 50 yards or so down a 80 yard wide pitch how fookin hard is it ? Blokes do it with ease on the parks every weekend and land it in what is a fookin wide area of grass to aim at. Two poor keepers League One is the best they will ever get to I'm afraid. The excuse that one is still learning is wearing very thin I'd say both will cost us goals next season.
Have you started going again ? because Howards got a great kick on him distance and accuracy ,its a bit difficult when theres only Baxter up there with 4 big defenders for company.

Howard coming in for some unfair flak here IMO. He got a chance in the 1st team in the second half of the season and he did almost nothing wrong... Proved himself to Clough and other coaches... Deserved his new contract. Most comfortable I've felt since pre-simonsen when the ball is in and around our box..

Howard's distribution was indeed better than Georgie-Boy's, but there would be maybe one game in every five or six where he would have an absolute shocker where everything he kicked looked like it had come off great big Toblerones on his boots.

What i think Howard has over Long is he commands his area. Whenever a corner comes over Howard tried to claim it or at least punch it. Long seems to stand on his line and wait for the head on goal as he knows he's a decent shot stopper.

Howard's no1 for me. Like what's been said, he commands his area/comes for crosses etc but the key for me is that the defence have faith in him, they don't panic due to the silence behind them which they get with Long. I think Long will end up spending a season or 2 with someone like Burton

The fact that Clough dropped Long for Howard shows that he agrees with 95% of Blades and thinks Howard is the better keeper. Long may work on his weaknesses and come back a better keeper but for now it's blatantly obvious Howard should continue to play.

I highly doubt he'd have left it this late to sign a new gk. If he were, It would've more than likely have been Legzdins whose gone to Orient

Quite, and if we are on a budget a keeper is the last thing we need.

Who would you have as number 1 for next season for me I think we should go for George Long as i think he is a better more agile shot stopper however his distribution and communication is pretty bad. What does everyone think?

Whoever Mr Clough decides is his No1

I'm told that Willis is a good keeper' for his age'
Is that so? Is he better than George was at the same age?
Could Willis be trusted to come on as a sub, or even as a starter in a game?
Has George's development hit the buffers?
Does anyone think that Willis will overtake George in the pecking order?
Rather a lot of questions there, but this far away from the action, your views would be appreciated. UTB

Willis is a decent Keeper. He looks good in the under 21s.
Willis is nearly 19 and as yet to make his 1st team debut, Long had played 40 first team games at that age.
Willis could come on as sub and do a decent job, maybe start in a JPT game. It is difficult to say though as he as yet to play for the first team i think
Long would benefit from a loan as his development had stalled mind you the whole team had hit the buffers when it was swapped around by Clough.
Willis is small and slight for a keeper at around 5 foot 10. I hope he will grow and fill out though. This could be a disadvantage in league football. But he is very agile though. i think Willis would benefit from a loan also and get some real football under his belt. Only my thought i hope that helps.

Apparently its not even a debate as to whether Howard or long start as number 1,well all you Howard fans think again.Do not send Long out on loan cloughy we might live to regret it.

Alas, teams aren't picked on message board debates, usually the manager decides on current form, previous form, fitness, attitude, and who his gut instinct thinks is best man for job. Suspect our keeper for the seasons opener will be decided that way too.

Mark Howard proved more than good enough last season. George Long is yet to do that. And though Howard wasn't covered in glory yesterday, there was still a reminder of why Long is so limited as a keeper right now - one instance where he failed to come out and collect and you could see the indecision in the covering defender. Repeat that 165 times and you're back to the George Long of last season.

Whoever is our number 1 next season, I'm sure a team with George Long in the net won't get promoted from this division.
