Nigel said this in the stir...

“We are still looking to bring a striker in but we are not worried about starting the season with what we’ve got because there are good players here,” Clough added. “There’s Chris (Porter) and Jose (Baxter) who were an important part of our success last season and everyone seems to be forgetting about Marc (McNulty) who has come in from Livingston."

To me this either means Ch*d is coming back or we are planning to get somebody in January??

Also, if ch*d isn't coming back the we are doing exactly the same as we did last year with Taylor. Putting all our goalscoring hopes on a young, unproven striker that's scored a few goals in Scotland. If we fail to gain promotion this year then it's Nigel, the scouts and possibly Mal Brannigan's else's fault for not finding (scouts) and signing (Nige and MB) a 25 goal a season man. Unless it's the defenses fault we don't go up obviously.

I think what he's saying is - we have enough firepower to start the season with but not enough to see the season through.

I don't think that is anything to do with Chedwyn Evans
Point taken but why would he say "start the season" and not talk about the full season?

Injuries and suspensions don't kick in straight away usually. We played the back end of last season with Porter/Baxter. We've still got them + McNulty and JCR (who Clough has already hinted at playing behind a striker). If we don't have somebody in by October either on loan or permanent i'd be worried.

He's waiting for the right guy it seems

When does the transfer window close?

When does the loan window close?
Yes but why have a loan player when you can buy one unless we are going for a prem striker and most good players will have made their move before the start of the season.

Don't think so. Especially as they start two weeks after the FL.

Clough will have 4 or 5 striker targets in his head. A mixture of signings and loans. He will also have them in priority order, Trust the man, he knows what he's doing!

Ok, let's see. In NIGE we trust. UTB

It's all starting to come together now...hmmmmm...

Worrying statement. We need a proven striker from the start of the season. Clough seemed to recognise that in earlier statements so this one is a bit baffling.

I think he's probably saying..."Barnsley, we're not paying a premium for COG, particularly when there are no bids from other parties, so go ahead and pay him £7000 a week until the end of the window. But you won't have space in the salary cap to strengthen your squad until you move him on. And consequently your promotion prospects will be ****ed. We've got a good enough squad not to agree with the time imperative you are trying to add to the negotiation."

Or it's about Ched. ;)

For me Clough is referring to the start of the season ie the 2 weeks or so before the window closes on the 31st August. In other words, I believe he's saying its not the end of the world if we kick off the season against Bristol City with our current selection of strikers as the window is still open. That's my reading of it anyway.

Think that's exactly right lepton. He's also saying we won't be pressured into paying over the odds for CoG (or anyone else) because time is short. Other options might be available when the 25-man PL squads are announced.

We'll have our striker by the end of August, very probably by 9 August. Nigel has a first-choice and he's waiting. Where there's a will there's a way, whatever unprofessional, gobby CEO's may say.

Patience gentlemen, Follow Nigel's lead. We don't need to score in July.

Amazed to think that statement from Clough could be twisted in this way but hats of for the creative thinking to crowbar another thread in about Ched.

Also amazed to see that in spite of Cloughs record and proof of what he has done last season some still doubt him and what he is doing? For the first time in a while I feel pretty relaxed about it because I know the bloke in charge is doing the right things.

I know people don't want the entire season in the hands of our youngsters, and an older head up top with a 3-4 year proven record would be awesome
BUT
45 goals in 88 starts for Mcnulty shouldn't be overlooked.

....that said, NOBODY wants to resign Ched more than I do, but as always- in Clough we trust.

Really, how can this be?

I've no idea what the away kit looks like, when I can buy the home kit in XXXXXLLL, when Ched might be coming back, when my season ticket is going to arrive, how many we've sold, what price the balti pies have gone up to, when the new striker will arrive, what alloys he's got, where Harry might end up . . .

I'm a nervous fucking wreck and the seasons only 4 weeks away.
