There's a whole host of factual information (including that which you've provided) that contradicts the woe is Wednesday narrative on this matter.
Staton tweeted somebody saying (I'm paraphrasing)"I know my job better than you thanks". Clearly this isn't the case. He's chairing the show and is in the role of mediator NOT arbitrator. He is also subject to the BBC impartiality charter. As the host he should take the narrative(s) promulgated by the Wednesday hierarchy (and some fans) and allow them to be scrutinised. To analyse them giving equal voice to all sides of the debate before, finally, reaching any conclusion. There are ample facts and figures here so guesswork and emotion isn't required in the analysis. We all have our natural biases and prejudices, that's understandable, but we are all also capable of taking a viewpoint diametrically opposed to those inclinations and giving it due consideration. It's actually a good debating skill to take the opposite point of view and to argue in favour of it in order to test the strength of your own argument. If we can't do that due to strength of feeling we can always recuse ourselves from a debate or hosting/mediating one.
FH Team should've made this happen on this subject long ago as Staton keeps crossing the line on the matter. Does FH not have an editor saying "what are the actual stats on this Rob?" If they do they're actually hanging Staton out to dry not interceding.
Staton has never done any of the above. His abject failure when it comes to mentioning any of the factual data on this matter is simply astounding. It's 2026 and we all have access to this data... being gaslit won't fly. His patronising tone, condescension and arrogance when challenged by those who are clearly more studious on the matter doesn't serve him anywhere but in his own head. We have the data....
