Presumably you also think Chris Davies and Heckingbottom have terrible judgement as well, given that they are persisting with him.

Or maybe, maybe, they know a bit more than you...

I think Robbo was always the weak link in our defence throughout his time here.

That didn't mean he didn't have good games but if there was a flaw in recent seasons it was him.

I think people forget that he was only signed as cover for JOC at the time. He barely played in his first season with us.
Doesn't excuse why we never replaced him, however most on here were quite happy with him the Hecky promo season and even the disastrous season after when he was lauded as one of the only players that cared.
Nevertheless, I'm glad he moved on.
This is exactly it. Jack Robinson was a cheap back-up for JOC. It said more about the state of our budget than anything else. In a parallel universe, JOC doesn’t get injured, and Robinson barely plays for us. As it happened in this one, he just ended up becoming one of the bigger characters in the dressing room and stuck around for much longer than his play deserved. I don’t especially blame the managers who have played him. I’ve had a wry smile at some of the Birmingham comments, not least because I still think he was incredibly lucky to somehow even “split opinion” among our fan base. He’s League One standard.

On the theme of faint praise, I’m happy to offer the thought that he was better than Auston Trusty.

I said many, many times on here, and I'm sure I wasn't alone in thinking this, that he should never under any circumstances be used in a back four.

His performances in 2020-21 (in a back 5, which at least offered a modicum of cover for his mistimed reducers) were amongst the worst I have ever seen and I was at pains when I commented on those back them not to blame him for it. In fact, I reported Wilder to Amnesty International for the cruel torture of forcing him to come up every week against Premier League players.

He improved after that, all credit to him, but that he remained with us till recently is very hard to understand.

For the sake of balance, our defence hasn''t looked much more reliable since he left.

Exactly. Those that support Wilder unconditionally are just brain dead. He’s made some right screw ups and persisting with JT over the last bit of the last season was as bad as his judgement on Cannot, persistence with Brewster and his selection of Lundstramcnut
Can you spell out your hatred of Wilder a bit more clearly

I commented earlier in the season when he was still with us that I felt he was increasingly mentally unstable. His reactions or rather over reactions to referees decisions was embarrassing and disturbing. Is it born out of frustration that his age is catching up on him exposing his lack of ability more and more.? Whatever I think he needs some serious help. Missing the next four games after todays second red may not get back from that.

Let's not forget, he was our club captain. The leader of our club, the culture carrier, the motivator, the one who is expected to lead by example...

As others have said, based on the past 6 months, i do wonder if there is more to it and he's struggling with other things. Because if not, what an absolute abhorrent man he's become...

Personally I think it's just that he's a Scouser.

That's his second red card for Birmingham, already. 2 reds in 4 games is ridiculous. He really should've been sent off against Birmingham this season too. For all his antics his disciplinary record hasn't been bad previously. Definitely a strange one, either refs are being tougher or he's struggling to control himself.

Probably it's that Birmingham haven't got a Souttar or Anel to cover up the cracks.

Thought McGuinness had his best game for us yesterday. Seemed to read the game better as was more dominant in the air, also benefited from playing alongside the other two defenders who are more solid and organise.

A few wins and confidence will improve each and everyone of the players, possibly even Cannon and Barry.

Reminds me of a David Ellery story when he sent off a young Neil Webb. ‘You can tell me to fuck off all you want but nobody, and I mean nobody, calls me a cunt’
