The Football League Family Excellence Award winners have been announced for 2014.

Created in 2007, the Award recognises the outstanding experience provided by clubs for young fans and families as part of a scheme that won the Gold Award at the European Professional Football Leagues' Best Practice Awards, earlier this season.

A total of 47 clubs from across all three divisions of The Football League have been given the Award for 2014, the same number as in 2013 despite a significant increase in the benchmark standard being applied by the judging panel. More than ever this year, Football League clubs are providing families with engaging family areas and offering innovative matchday entertainment that delivers a money can't buy experience for young fans...

This is what happens when you sign Marlon King

Maybe the families did not get let in the family stand because they were not regulars.

Superb article from a Coventry fan on why this ridiculous award is a complete and utter fucking joke.

Good spot utdblade.I had to laugh when he said they didn't win it last year at the ricoh arena when they had nearly 9,000 fans extra, must have been no families in that 9,000 or something
And that comment at the bottom when he says northampton should have had 2 awards, laughing my knackers off, what a load of shite

What an absolute shit of an award!! What brilliant idea are they going to make up next? Pricks the lot of em...

Sounds like an award begging for a nice sponsership deal to give that little something extra.

Interestingly, the view on Fowlstalk is tnat it's a prestigious award and well done to their club for having scooped it. The consensus on here is that it's a meaningless accolade that we're well out of.

I think the truth might be somewhere inbetween.

Think there are double standards on here, if I'm honest.

Had we won this award, and Wednesday didn't, many on here would be giving it the biggun saying how we're a family club with better infrastructure, better managed etc etc

Now for what it's worth, the award itself is fairly meaningless, that doesn't go to say we shouldn't be aiming for provide a better experience for families at Bramall Lane. These results are just an indicator that we could be doing more to help families enjoy their match day experience. I'd always believed we pride ourselves on being a family club, so these results, however meaningless, are not good reading.

Maybe it's just the inevitable kneejerk to the rivalry between our two clubs: if one club wins an award the other doesn't, it almost always ends with the winners getting on their high horse and the other club trying to undermine the achievement. However, this should still be noted by our hierarchy to make sure we work harder to get families, and particularly younger fans, coming to Bramall Lane and enjoying their experience.

That was my point in fewer words :-)

Double standards on here???what a load of bollocks. The people who give these awards out ,send people to two home matches all season and they can tell from 2 matches what they need to tell ,load of shit.which stands do these people sit in,what standards do they have, not sure they have any.

And have you not read the coventry fans article, hes basically saying he doesn't know why theyv'e got it this year and didn't get it last year, this alone makes the award debatable.

Last but not least, millwall have got one, have you not seen any of their stands on telly,i can assure you there is not many families in them. They must have picked 2 behind closed doors friendlies to give them their award.

So double standards ,no chance. If we had got the award and i still saw that article from the coventry fan, then i would have still said the same things has iv'e allready said, they can't give an award on 2 matches, bullshit.
