Honestly when I saw it was a year it felt longer. Maybe because he had left us in the summer I dunno but for some reason it feels longer than a year.

It sounds glib to say but it's very clear we miss character like he brought right now.

As fans it's sad of course but the reality is it's family and friends and especially his little kid who is just turning 2 that I feel for.

The Greece win that week was something unique in that I absolutely didn't mind England lost. Great tribute to him.

I was absolutely rooting for Greece. Still do ⚔️

I was in Athens a couple of weeks ago and on two separate ocassions I spoke to a couple of locals about football.

I just had to mention George. It became quite clear that their respect and love for him is equal to ours.

Great character and player.
Could never question his commitment or effort.
And actually at times for us he was excellent whether that be championship or PL.

We do miss a character like him. And actually I'd argue we also haven't been able to get a RWB or RB since that can fill that void.

No argument about it; no RBs or RWBs have got anywhere George.

it was the stoke home game last season when the starman song was sung all round the ground for a good 10 minutes

Hi all,

I am a regular poster on here, but wanted to share something I am doing in real life, with out revealing my real identity (so apologies Linz and Foxy for giving you more work to do...)

I was shocked by the news of George's passing in October 2024. I am not ashamed to say that tears were shed and reading through our thread, I know I wasn't alone in this. Not only was he a great footballer, but the stories that came out, showed what a kind and genuine man he was too.

I saw Sam Baldock's news about launching the George Baldock foundation and I want to be able to do something to support. For this reason, I am going to do a bike ride to raise donations for the foundation. George felt like he was truly one of our own, but reading through threads on other forums, I also know how much he meant to every club he played for. So my plan is to link the EFL clubs he played for, Oxford United, MK Dons, Northampton Town and ending at Bramall Lane. (Tamworth and Panathinaikos may have to be a future ride!) Its around 250km and my plan is to do it the first weekend of the new season, date to be confirmed fixture dependent.

One of the challenges I have is that I am not actually connected with any other Blades other than on here, so if you are happy to share this with any family and friends etc, that would be appreciated. I am in touch with the clubs so hopefully will be able to share it via there networks as well. I have also posted on an Oxford United forum and will be trying to find the other clubs fans platforms too.

I hope this is ok, not really my comfort zone doing stuff like this but I hope it can make a difference. I have never ridden any where near this distance either and a ride on sunday to Baldock (very fitting) was 90km and showed me just how much work I have to do!

Below is the link to the JustGiving page (mainly so you can see its a genuine thing...)

Just had a quick look at this and assuming, Kassam, Stadum MK, Sixfields and BDTBL, that’s 171 miles and 15 hours.

That’s one hell of a ride, hoping you can drop your anonymity and arrive at the fan zone an hour before kick off on the first home game, and take some credit.

Best of luck this this one, 👍.
Thanks, that is the plan for the route, I haven't looked at the elevation... The approach to Sheffield from the south is flat... right...?! 🤣

I won't be doing it on match day (I want to be able to enjoy the match and not have that time pressure!) , but ideally if our first game is at home on the Saturday, do the ride on the friday. If we have the friday night match, I might do the ride on the Thursday.

Really not after credit on this, I just felt quite strongly that us as fans needed an opportunity to show our support to the foundation, and our appreciation of George and his legacy. not a religious man but on my ride at the weekend, the two hardest bits of the route, Starman came on my Spotify playlist, both times. 😍
