Anybody still think it's all on the manager(s)

The loans stick out as being really poor this season.

When you look back on our loan players of previous years in the championship:
Rak-Saki, Bereton, Souttar, McAtee, Doyle, Gibbs-white, Henderson. I know there were others making up the numbers in those years too, but we’ve repeatedly found real value in the loan market when we’ve been in the championship over the past 6 or 7 seasons: this year the quality just seems much lower.
The loan market is hugely important to championship clubs, and we seem to have got it all wrong this time.

Said this to my lad. There was a passage of play where Ogbene hit two crosses either too deep or straight at he GK and Barry put one into the crowd which sums up our 'wing' play and quality of our loans....

Appalling.

I would have Ogbene up front as a 2 rather than on the Wing. Barry isn’t the greatest either but least with Ogbene he has pace and form of scoring in this league before with Rotherham

I have been saying for years that we are over reliant on the loan market. It has properly caught up with us

It's on him to go fucking bonkers with them then.

What's he worst that happens? They stop playing/trying?
That wouldn’t necessarily work these days. It might have done in the 1980s. I think a lot of players would simply tune it out. I know I would if someone was ranting at me. It will need to be done with a bit more intelligence than that. Players today hold a hell of a lot more power than they used to.

I get you, but it's clear the Out Run Out Work mantra and "running around is a given" just isn't happening.

We're second best in every dimension and if nothing changes, nothing changes.

Let's be honest, for some it was down to Selles but when Wilder can't sort it, it will be the players not the manager.

I'm hoping Wilder can stumble on something for us to score goals and give a glimmer of hope for the second half of the season.

But even if he does and gets us up in touching distance of the play offs, I wouldnt bet against him going negative again.

The Wilder on the upward trajectory to 2020 has gone and isn't coming back.

When one of the tactics is ‘gi it to Cheo’ it doesn’t bode well. He either gets dispossessed on a head down dribble or gets to the byline and there isn’t a Blades player in site in the box.

He’s then asked to leg it back when we defend, despite not displaying any discernible defensive attributes.

Square peg, round hole. We're asking a 4/10 RW to play RWB in the Championship. It's bonkers.

I'm not Pep Guardiola but the only time wing backs work is when you get an overload out wide. Not once this season has that happened. Surely playing Ogbene as a RCF and asking him to drift out wide when we have the ball and then having Seriki overlapping would be a much better plan?

When we go down, and we will go down with this shower, these so called stars will be off quicker than a porn stars undercrackers. I don’t think I’ve ever hated a United side as much as this. An unfit, uncaring set oF spineless mercenaries. We look like a Sunday League side, beer guts, blowing out of their arses after 46 minutes, and tactics to match. I don’t want to go down but it might clear the decks so to speak. Get in young, hungry players wanting to prove themselves. A new manager with fresh ideas, fitness a must. I want this lot to prove us wrong but I don’t see it. Fuck me, it’s depressing.

Wouldn't want to be in the trenches with this load of players would you?

Half of them look unfit, other half look disinterested and lacking in any kind of drive. We've got players who can't even trap a bag of cement, play a simple 6 yard pass and are content to let players just skip past them. Gutless speaks to mind
Pep wouldn't get a tune out of this lot.

To be fair, overall I've been pleased with Ogbene, and feel he's the best of the loan signings. Godfrey well let's just not talk about him, Barry has no end product, Bindon the clue is in the name (Bin)... They've all been poor but at least Ogbene actually crosses the ball! He best his man to the byline and whipped in the cross for our goal vs Oxford.

The clueless nature of our set plays both defending and attacking cries out for a specialist coach, then at least we can play for corners...
If you remember back in League One in the first iteration of Tufty Ball, Knill came up with some cracking free kick/set piece routines. What happened? Did he just give up and stop bothering?

He pulls the occasional gem out, like last week. But you can only do that once in a long time.

Just getting a decent ball to our players from a set piece would be a start sometimes.

Or, perhaps Selles is actually a pretty poor manager. He's certainly unproven at this level (with this expectation anyway) and maybe Wilder is also currently struggling. His record away from us has been pretty poor, last season we did well despite poor underlying numbers.

Maybe we just haven't had a particularly good manager.

I think they practice 5 yard passes all week and they haven't mastered that. And you want free kick routines? Don't think they are ready for "complicated " set pieces, like beat the first man etc.

We did one recently that Hamer slid the ball in for a nearly unmarked O'hare that looked pre planned tbf.

I still remember the one at Charlton away and most of us were wondering WTF happened let alone their defense

Selles should never have got the job in the first place - a lot more creative young achieving managers in Europe and beyond
Nothing rational on his CV as to why he should get
And he wasn’t even interviewed
I can't believe that he wasn't interviewed unless I hear it from the horses mouth. And you know what, I bloody well hope it's not true because of so it's incompetence of the highest order and extremely concerning!
