Agree with the point about teams standing off us knowing we can’t score against a packed defence. Millwall did it earlier in the season & we had a late ‘flurry’ but only because they allowed it.Think it’s a fair summary of events. We only looked better because they stood off us after they scored the second knowing that we could still be playing now and not found a way to score.
Way off it physically, technically and mentally. Three games in and Wilder is already starting to show signs of cracking.
Long season ahead, talk of any sort of mid table push is laughable.

Shades of the most recent Prem relegation season at the moment. We only play well in patches, can’t hold on to possession or play through teams, and by 60 minutes we’re knackered.
Teams are finding it far too easy to score against us & then know they can sit in & the chances of us scoring are very slim. We don’t even get the ball in the box or have shots in anger!
I think that was a better decision than the Ogbene shove, which could have been a red card. Still don’t agree with the disallowed goal though.
What’s your overall view on the performance Bergen?
Bergen Blade for set piece coach! On the first goal, McGuinness is not marking Stewart. We use a mix of man marking and zonal marking.
Our three centre halves zonal mark between the posts. O'Hare's zone is in front of the first post, to clear low balls in. Then we have Peck to challenge anyone coming into the zone at the first post.
Our man marking players are Ogbene, Campbell, Burrows and Davies (red text below). All these are marking men taller than themselves. Their job is to prevent a real leap for the ball.
Hamer is zonal marking around the penalty mark, probably assigned to close down opponents just outside the box.

Not sure if it's 100% deliberate, but Southampton manage to find a flaw in our setup. The outswinging corner lands outside the 6 yard box, over O'Hare, but also slightly away from Peck's main zone. Armstrong is one of the smallest players on the pitch, but manages to nod it goalwards. Stewart reads this, Davies doesn't, and their main goalscorer can prepare, shape up and shoot unchallenged at the back post.
McGuinness is taken out by the wrestling Charles and shouldn't be blamed for this goal.
Thanks for the report Deadbat.
Taken in isolation we possibly could be a bit happier with the performance against one of the (supposedly) better teams, in the context of the previous games though it was another disappointing defeat.
Can't believe we turned down PNE taking Cannon on loan.
The Ogbene one was a foul and a yellow, not sure where the claim for a red card comes from? He wasn’t the last man and Ogbene was wide and to the right of the goal.I think that was a better decision than the Ogbene shove, which could have been a red card. Still don’t agree with the disallowed goal though.
Davies who didn’t follow Stewart for the first goal and who let Stewart ghost past him for the second goal?Really harsh on Davies & Peck IMO. Davies was our best player last night by a country mile and Peck was tidy (better than a 4 anyway).
Burrows and Hamer were the worst players on the pitch. Absolutely shocking from both - couldn’t find a red & white shirt with a pass, couldn’t run with the ball, attacks broke down every time either got the ball. 2’s for both.
Oh.. like others have said I think you let last nights frustration get the better of you. Perhaps with a nights reflection you might have seen it a bit differently.
I thought it was our best performance of season (low bar though) and Davies made a big difference, reasons to be optimistic I reckon
I thought your review was fair mostly. Only issue I had was that I thought Tom Davies was better than you scored him. However 1-2 was probably a fair score overall. My gut is that if Wilder can at least get minimum better loans in in January …. We will eventually make a comfortable mid table finish - 14th/15th - but it might be March/April before we reach those heady heights! It was our best performance of the season and we still deservedly lost and could have conceded 4 or 5 at home (missed pen, hit post, Cooper two full stretch saves). We could have had a few more but overall 1-2 was about right and all the key stats back it up.
Davies was ok but not sure we had any control of midfield all game and they dominated possession. When the visitors have so much of the ball and we do not press at all that is a worry? Once again we created little outside of the 2 chances early 2nd half.
We were better bit it's 4 defeats in 4 at home and 7 of 8 overall. The form is appalling and I'm not as convinced as others that it will just turn around. We rarely score/create, we concede goals easily and look physically a few yards off most of our opponents.
Southampton were not great and have been really struggling but we let them have the ball way too much. They showed quality at key moments and did enough to win it.
I stand by it was another poor performance. We showed bits at times but too many individuals way off it again and in the big moments we were found wanting. We looked disjointed again and struggling to move through the thirds and put sustained pressure on an opponent.
I do not see this side putting a run together and it is definitely a big fight on to stay up which may seem incredible but 3 wins in 14 says it all going back to March.

I’d love to know where this confidence comes from. I’m expecting us to fluke enough Oxford style results to keep up with the pack but there’s nothing in the last three games that makes me think that much will improve.I do see this side putting a run together.

Thats how I saw it. They played around us too easily. We lack the physical ball winning presence in midfield that Souza was. Soumare seems best equipped to fill the role and he's left footed. Problem is it’s clear CW doesn't rate him and in general he's not a fan of a DM. Unless we win the midfield battles we will not get results on the board. Hamer, Peck and COH are just too lightweight and Davies is an injury waiting to happen.
By the way I take back the suggestion that their corner move wasn't 100% deliberate. They did much the same moments later, from the other side, again Armstrong moving out to the edge of the 6 yard box and coming pretty close:Bergen Blade for set piece coach!![]()
This is it. I thought, for a first game back, Davies was excellent. But Davies isn't a Souza replacement. Davies isn't a big bugger who'll impose himself on the opposition. Soumare goes on a list of maybe-one-days that we've signed but doesn't look like a player ready to step into the side and be that difference.Davies was ok but not sure we had any control of midfield all game and they dominated possession

This is from The Pinch player ratings and sums up what I saw. He was far from the level that some are saying.

His rating is low, but the summary is right.I think Riley at the Pinch rivals Deadbat for his negative scoring!
I always put at least a one or a two marks up on Deadbats player assessment ratings.Sorry Deadbat I don’t agree, I thought we played well tonight & you do seem seem to be so negative….
