It’s mental how at the end of last season Wilder was the reason the fan base was divided but now he’s the reason why most of us are United 😂 hope it galvanises us as a club on and off the pitch now

Should think he will galvanise the fans…..Wilder has charisma and is a fantastic upbeat/ realistic speaker
But even though I’m a a big fan of Wilder I did notice several faults with him last season.
We received loads of stick from opposition fanbase saying we were so average and to be honest in quite a lot of games it was true.
We seemed to treat every game like a cup final and fought our way to an unconvincing 1-0 win most weeks. Thought it was weird how Wilders 2nd spell (negative with players not gelling) was nothing like his 1st spell (where we were positive looking so well drilled).

However Selles has been so bad…..it’s lowered expectation…so it’s now back to basics and I’ll take those unconvincing 1-0 wins any day of the week now.
We’ve seen with our own eyes Wilder is capable of miracles so I don’t rule anything out regards Chris Wilder and promotion is still possible.

Crazy times.
I wonder if this sequence of events is unprecedented especially in such a short time?
United hired Arthur Rowley as manager in 1969 and John Harris 'went upstairs' but didn't leave the club. By the end of the 1969-70 season, Rowley left and Harris was restored as manager, but he was still at the club, he wasn't sacked only to return 3 months later.

Yeah I agree with all of that but as I’ve mentioned on another thread I think in hindsight (which is a wonderful thing), we tried moving on probably unfairly and too fast In terms of style of play and what direction the owners wanted to go in. I genuinely hope Wilder goes back to 3-5-2 (not for a nostalgia trip) but because I think it would suit this current squad really well. Genuinely excited to see what happens going forward 👍🏼

For those that said last seasons 1 - 0 unconvincing wins were frustrating. I get that but at the same time let's remember it was his first full season back and he had a lot of issues to sort. So this second season, once the confidence hopefully returns we th wins I wouldn't be surprised to see the football is improved in last season. He's got some decent attacking players like Chong and we've still got Hamer of course.

I think Wilder is he plays Barry will get more out of him too. In fact I expect to see an improvement in everyone to be honest.

I expect it will be 4231

Cooper
Godfrey/Seriki
Tanganga
McGuinnes or Mee
Burrows
Peck CM
Soumare or Matos CM
Hamer LW
Chong or O'Hare 10 role
Ogbene RW
Campbell

Not bad that is it?!

Whilst I’m not going to quibble too much about Wilder 3.0, I do wonder how we’ll build something exciting, modern and progressive. Or has pragmatism and the immediate need to climb up the table mean we’ve given up on that notion?
Yeah I am going with that, I think they have realised that its ok to have fancy AI stuff and modern day thinking but not much use in League 1

Wilder 3.0 will be similar to version 2. But at end of the day. We get results with Wilder* and surely after this start it is what we need

*apart from season 23/24 PL.

To be honest I was one of the ones wanting change at the end of last season, but i honestly believe CW coming back is the correct choice. I'm also hoping the rumours about the prince turn out to be true and he comes back into the fold with his knowledge and business acquaintance's and lastly lets hope we get someone like Mowbray in as Dof, and coupled with the supposed wealth of the yanks we could then have the best overall club we've had in years.

Rowley became our manager in Summer 1968, he remained as manager throughout the 1968-69 season, he was going to carry on as the manager for the 1969-70 season despite the board's doubts about him but an incident happened at the pre-season tour at Holland proved to be the final straw and Rowley was sacked on 6th August 1969 (three days before the start of the season)

Expecting too much and forgetting that its as easy to fall through the trap door than get promoted.

I heard some right flannel about Wider last season. I know the style wasn't great but much more often than not we left home and away grounds 3 points better off.
It's very difficult to care too much about 'win at all costs' when you don't end up achieving the overall goal and the overall goal is another season of getting battered anyway.

I've still got a season ticket but it isn't as important to me now. United are never going to be challenging for trophies, I do want to see football that's aggressive, direct (not hoof, just fast and decisive), attacking and enjoyable 🤷

The reality is that since his first tenure ended, Wilder is always going to be more divisive than he once was.

Whilst everyone is entitled to their views, and in many cases there is no right or wrong, after much bickering and attempts to get rises out of people with opposing opinions, it's now time for the fanbase as a whole to get behind the manager and the team and see where it takes us.

If Wilder remained with us throughout the summer then the atmosphere wouldnt be great at the Lane matches last month. As we have witnessed a horror start to the season, there cannot be too many Blades fans unhappy about his return?
Well im not happy, but people have short memories and wear Wilder Blinkers.
But here are a few reminders

Cannon

Robinson starting every game.

Winning the ball in defence moving a few yards forward then doubling back and passing it backwards or sideways.

Corners what's the point us taking them Wilder, the opposition are more likely to score from them than we are.

Taking a attacking player off and putting McCallum on after 65min.

I dont disagree but we have to take the PL moolah if we go up and these owners could go mad throwing dollars all over gaff.

Otherwise might as well just keep same teams in every division. Its a results game.

Tbh Wilder shouldn't have been sacked, he should have been given the chance to rebuild the team again and go again then IF things weren't going in the right direction then let him go.
Now he's taking on a group of players who were not brought in by him, having said that some of the signings aren't that bad.
But here's a question who actually signed/picked these players..Sellers or Bettis/COH ?????

It is. I think the balance was too weighted towards caution last season though. Hopefully, thos current team is allowed to take a few more risks over time

Results business in an entertainment industry. Where you sit on the Results V Entertainment spectrum will dictate how happy you are today.

That said, as much as it's a Spectrum in terms of opinion priorities, Wilder Mk 1 showed the two aren't mutually exclusive.

Sincerely hope we see more flair than the last 3 seasons have brought us so far.

Do think players like Ogbene and Barry have it in them, and Wilder Mk 1 would definitely get the best out of them. Hopefully the squad can gel together too and there isn't a Selles/Wilder divide or the turn around in results we are (all?) expecting may be harder to achieve than we expect.
