So you’re saying they’ve been speaking to other managers? Seems unlikely, I very much doubt that would’ve been kept secret.
The day Wilder was sacked Selles was announced. Of course the club would have been looking at options. It wasn't kept secret it leaked yesterday and still hasn't been confirmed that it's Wilder coming in ( looks likely though)

Yes, terrible failure - we're doing far better now without him.
I don’t think anyone is saying that we are doing better, it’s a plane crash.

92 points was a fantastic effort, but ultimately it didn’t get us up. Technically a failure albeit an unlucky one.

But this season yeah, it’s indefensible

The throwing of toys out the pram from the ones who loved mocking anyone upset when he went is glorious. This isn't Ruben Sellés FC you need to get behind the new man.

This 100%, but won't happen.

Already had posts saying they want it to go tits up if CW comes back.

It was leaked weeks before Wilder was sacked that he’d be on his way, I’ve not heard anything to suggest we’ve been talking to other managers during the international break.

If he had done it after we had been promoted then fine but he didn't he did it just before himself and his team completely blew up and derailed an entire season before following it up with another collosal bottle job from a winning position

If we do the double over the pigs this season I demand that the board and first team management are singing pro Chansiri/anti Wednesday songs in a local pub. It should be mandatory for all United manager's from now on. It's a great tradition Wilder has created.

If you think they weren't looking at potential options after the first 5 games then you must think they are terrible owners.

The discussions currently being held with the incoming incumbent if it is CW will be interesting. Its already being suggested there is split at Board level about bringing him back. This is something the co owners have to sort out immediately. While ever there are those on the Board who are against the decision it will leave CW hamstrung. Again the lack of a football man on the Board is a stark reminder that if you haven't got the tools to do the job there will be consequences.

Credit to the owners for making a quick decision in dispensing with Selles. Thats where the praise stops. They are all experienced and successful businessmen we are told. Yet they presided over a complete shambles in a very short period. If they don't learn lessons from this now they never will. If the rumour is true that they are looking to bring in someone upstairs, preferably a DOF, then they need to get on with it. Its a subject that should be part of discussions with CW. There is the potential for negotiations to break down on this key point. If the owners want to modernise the Club they can't be seen to be backtracking on this otherwise we are left to assume they really haven't got a clue.

The appointment of CW if and when it happens will be seen as a panic reaction by the football world. Credibility is at stake. The terms on which he is re employed will be critical to maintaining stability but at the same time have to be seen to be progressing the Club. For that reason imo CW can not come back and be allowed to have his finger in every pie as he has done previously. A DOF would solve this problem. For CW's part he has to acknowledge he has his detractors at Board level and tone down the off field antics. There is also the question of whether he needs to shake up his support team as they went stale towards the end of last season. The appointment of an experienced coach with tactical nous would be progress.

Chest thumping and team camaraderie wont alone solve the significant problems the start to the season have presented. Players fitness and injury management require improvement.

Finally if the Board can insist that the words culture carrier are banned then that would make it more palatable for us when listening to press conferences. The Club statement on Selles departure and CW's reappointment will make interesting reading if and when they happen.

Is Chris ‘Grinder’ Wilder coming back a done deal? If not, I urge the board to put someone in temporary charge and properly look for the right type of manager that will deliver the board’s ambition of a different Sheff Utd that can actually get a foothold in the Prem, Chrissy Grinder is NOT that man.

Don’t panic, take your time, and hire the right man.

I wouldn’t be able to cope with Wilder’s grinding out results methodology, it will ultimately not take us to where we want to be.

But what role? DOF? Giving him full control over expenditure?
What is a DOF? Most successful clubs have one, but they come in a whole range of shapes and sizes.
Would I give him full control over expenditure? Of course not. If we are to deliver the Board vision of becoming an established Premier League team, then I would expect that we will need to spend on a scale exceeding anything in our history, and it would be irresponsibly stupid to invest full control of this expenditure in a single individual.

The problem that we have is an almost complete lack of the necessary corporate infrastructure required to deliver our aspiration. That needs to be addressed quickly. Simply changing managers will not achieve this. Chris wilder is a demonstrated key talent within the SUFC organisation, and so I would be asking myself the question as to how best to utilise and develop him as an individual in service both of his own success and that of the overall enterprise.

If it were down to me, then I’d be telling Chris Wilder that his over-riding priority for the remainder of this season is to get us promoted. Nothing else. Revenue growth is a critical driver underpinning our ambitions, and we are in our final year of parachute payments. I would have structured his short term remuneration to heavily reflect this focus.

Beyond that, I would be asking myself what his key strengths are, and how they could align with a more senior role. I’d also be wanting to involve him in generating the space and support to develop into a more senior job. Ideally, this would involve him in identifying and recruiting potential successors to him in his current job, as part of the development of his own support team.
Critical existing strengths that I would want to build into a more senior role for him over time include:
  • mentorship and man management
  • youth and talent development, player pipeline management
  • working his influence network across football. Contrary to the views of the many pearl clutchers on this forum, he is very well respected in footballing circles, as evidenced by the preparedness of major clubs to trust us in development of key talents through loan moves. This is a very valuable quality that we need to exploit.
  • strengthening the identity of the club, and the connection between the supporters, the players, the club and the Board. I would seek to build his relationship with the Board asap, to help fill the current glaring gap in communication. He can bring us all together like very few can.
  • setting strategic direction for style of play, as part of a team charged with this responsibility.

In terms of his areas where he’s OK but needs more development, I’d be thinking about things like recruitment and talent identification ( and the spending of money associated with this). As a start to this, I’d want to involve him in creating a team that brings together best practice in the diversity of approaches needed. The days of individuals, including him, making unilateral calls ( if this indeed has happened) need to be over if we are to achieve our ambition.

I hope this illustrates to you my belief that there is clear scope for a more senior long term role for Wilder, potentially at Boardroom level. From ballboy to Board Room at the Club that he’s loved all his life - I think he would kill for that. If he wasn’t prepared to show the humility to accept that some of his skills need strengthening, and the personal flexibility to achieve this, then I would ask him to focus exclusively on the short tern need for promotion. Then I would sack him at the end of the season, using this forward knowledge to make appropriate adjustments of judgements in recruitment of other members of the leadership team, as well as to the identity of his successor.

You see I was wondering about the grinder thing but then you explained it in your last sentence

All it will indicate is desperation on the part of the board and giving in to the pathetic hero worship of a needy fan base.

I hope your criticisms will be football based this time and not the vile hate mongering and character assassinations of last time. Time for you to leave that cult and to bury the voodoo doll for you own good.

Chris Wilder is keen to make the earliest possible start at Sheff Utd & to be back at work with them tomorrow. Alan Knill & Matt Prestridge set to rejoin, with Michael Collins promoted from the academy. CW likely to revert to previous contract.

anyone sane would.

So that's why we have hired a manager with a history of promotion and just last year got a points total that I suspect would get us up this year. Perfect.
I agree with part of that. 92 points in most seasons would have got us up.

I’ve also said that CW’s achievements merit being one of the best, if not the best for us. I stand by that.

I don’t know why I keep prattling on, Ms crab always said I was a stubborn old bastard. I need to step back, my views seem to be a minority, unfashionable.

I’ve known football all my life. I don’t know it anymore

I need to look for something to fill the void because football feels like it’s not doing it anymore

So poxy wilder gets a tin pot team at home first game to grab an easy 3 points. Pity it wasn't against the likes of Norwich, Boro or West Brom to put wilder to the sword, so the crowd could chant 'getting sacked in the morning "

He needs to take the players somewhere on a coach and call in at the off-license on the way back. Send one of them in in to get a load of beer, and let them get pissed together. As long as he doesn’t send Sydie Peck in, he’ll never get served looking that young.

It worked wonders in the past.
That was probably why most of them weren't fit enough last season to last more than 60 to 70 minutes.
