Genuine question. If you were offered wilder back tomorrow, would you take it?

I think it’s extremely unlikely to happen, and it is clearly quite a polarising issue. I’m interested to see in the poll just exactly how unpopular it would be.

I was pretty shocked when he was sacked. The football wasn’t pleasing to watch. But given the situation he inherited it was effective and I think surprised most of us with such a serious promotion challenge.

Personally, I thought it was the wrong decision to sack him - it was a season too early. We could have had another season of much the same, and another real chance at promotion. Now - who knows what - but promotion already seems to be a dream and most of us are looking the other way. The worst part for me is that we seem to have squandered a parachute payment season. This is such a huge advantage, that to throw it away like this is a disaster. Wilder certainly isn’t perfect, but would have given us a strong chance. Now, it’s highly likely we’ll end up just being “another championship team” from next season onwards. It would’ve made much more sense to go for a whole new approach / big shakeup after the parachute money dried up, not in the middle of it.

To me, taking wilder back would be a “safe” option. He’d steady the ship. We wouldn’t go down. We might still mange a play-off challenge.

Anybody else would be more of a gamble. And a gamble when you’re already chasing your losses. But, if someone else was able to turn it around, this would likely be a better long-term outcome.

For the record my answer is a (somewhat begrudging) “yes”. But unless there’s a real dramatic change in the type of football, then I’d only want him this season to prevent a disaster and go again next season with a new approach.

Totally would take him back.

The most important question is who is the best (and realistic) manager out there that can come in and rescue the mess that we are in. That man is Chris Wilder. Dyche would obviously be many first choices but it's simply not realistic. Our stock has fallen and will continue to fall if we don't get the next appointment correctly.

In terms of this is "embarrassing" for the club, no it's embarrassing for the owners. Who decided to sack a manager who managed to pick up a squad that had one of the worst seasons in the Premier League and get third in the following season with mostly freebies and loans.

Is Wilder perfect? No, that's why he currently isn't in a job and isn't being touted for top league roles. Be thankful we have a Blade at heart that would instantly come back and want to truly drive the club forward

It's early in the voting, but a two thirds majority is good enough for me. No other likely manager will be universally wanted anyway, so that proportion is actually pretty good!

That seals it then. Phone him.
There can't be a big proportion of clubs with a manager with a popularity rating higher than that.

Thought this poll might be interesting to see through the fog of opinionated commenters.

Fecking embarrassing for club if they bring him back again.

How bad would it have to be to get shut a fourth time.

Absolute joke they are considering it and unprofessional talking about it before they’ve cleaned up their latest mess by clarifying Sellés situation.

Feckin armatures trying to flip a fast buck

It’s not a great look from the owners & makes us look a bit of a laughing stock to be honest.

From Wilders POV he comes in with nothing to lose & reassurances. Would that make him even more arrogant? Also is Wilder right long term?

It’s just all a bit odd & it probably shows how much they’re finding their feet/ out of depth they currently are in football.

No. Because to bring Wilder back demonstrates that one man is bigger than our club. That said, I could live with him as a DOF, because he does articulate a vision for the club in a way no-one else has really managed to.

If the owners are going to bring him back, it has to be with a clear vision for the future though. We don't have a 70k stadium and a huge worldwide fan base, and we can't afford to spend 12 years trying to find the next person who can steady the ship as Manyoo did after Fergie.

If he comes back there's 29k on Saturday and a rocking crowd ,if manuel is still there 25k and as flat as a Morgue
I’d go for 23k and a very hostile atmosphere for Selles. Morgue would describe the place he and his assistants will be in following the game. ((Obviously not literally)

There's more than that with season tickets and away fans and it's 25 quid anywhere in the ground

Isn't that last part exactly why we shouldn't have sacked him in the first place though?

Good managers are difficult to find, and ones that won't get snapped up by Premier League clubs as soon as they get a bit of success, are like rocking horse shit.

Getting us above the relegation zone because currently while we like it or not, we are in a relegation fight. We are currently the worst team in the Championship. We may all think the squad is good enough but if there is no structure in place we will go down.
