Selles sacked

We've got a perfectly decent enough squad now to compete at the top end of the table. Good blend of youth, experience, defensive and attack minded players. It should be working.

If after the internationals, we're on less than 10 points after 10 games and no sign of improvement, we might need to cut our losses. Essentially need to win 3 of the next 6 before things start to get away from us.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, all that was needed were minor tweaks and a slightly more positive approach to parking the bus.

The players aren't complete morons, they play the game every day and you can tell that they just don't believe in a word he's telling them, knowing that the tactics are just ridiculous and some could be phoning it in just to get him out the door.

I was OK either way about whether Wilder stayed or left but if he wasn't here last season, I dare say we'd be asking for him to come in and get a tune out of them. Despite some of the baffling choices last season, we wouldn't have seen One playing as a glorified right back.

It's a question of whether Selles values his job or his misguided 433 principles more and at the moment, he'll soon be out of job with any remaining reputation as a manager flushed down the toilet. He's got all the tools here to make it a success, it's not like he's at Reading or Hull under some crackpot regime but it seems he'd sooner cut off his nose to spite his face.

He was told before Millwall results have to improve
We've lost 2 since and today was a 'sack me' performance
The same source who told me Robbo was leaving after Millwall, which I posted last Saturday, messaged me tonight to say he expects Selles to be relieved of his duties 'within 48 hours'
Lets see how it pans out
Doubling Don, I thought you were BSing. In the faint hope you're not I’m keeping the stoning until Tuesday ;)

TBF there has apparently been quite a few messages going around tonight saying that he has gone/going? Two lads that I know from the away games have both messaged me saying that he is going and won't be in charge for the Ipswich game, and they do get good information from time to time????

I’m torn because he’s quite clearly getting fuck all from a fairly talented squad. And Seems to be too stubborn to change anything.

It feels like a sliding doors moment but the board gave him 1/2 a squad for the first few games and the 4-1 defeat feels like it could have gone the other way with a competent defence….. Then he’s fighting an uphill battle to get the fans on side and the players to buy in. He needed to start fast but didn’t and now no one is buying what he’s selling.

Bottom line though is he’s not addressed any of the weaknesses in the system . He’s Playing player out of position, a midfield which isn’t balanced and ignoring obvious solutions to that and as a result we can’t buy a result a goal and barely even a chance.

Feels like he’s done. But no one has covered themselves in glory, not COH, Not Selles and certainly not the players.
Most sensible post I've seen today. He was hung out to dry by the board when he was under pressure before a ball was kicked. Now he's finally been backed but all confidence in him had already gone.

In my opinion, It’s gone way beyond whether the players are performing for him or accepting of, or adapting to ‘his style of play’ after today, that ship has sailed.

With 58 minutes played and one nil down, still looking like we might possibly pinch a draw, he elects to replace Louie Barry, (who was at least trying to make something happen) with Ryan One, who might have great potential for his age, but that potential does not yet extend to the Championship.

If that wasn’t enough managerial naivety, 10 minutes later, he swaps Campbell (Who was awful all game tbf) for the shocking Tom Cannon, who’s only involvement for the entirety of his game, was a pathetic dive in an attempt to win a penalty, then on I honestly don’t remember him touching the ball again. Those two subs effectively left us playing with 9 1/2 men.

When he came in he promised fast paced, high pressing, ‘Aggressive’ football, that is the complete opposite of what he's delivered, we get bullied every game.

The blokes eyes must be painted on. He’s an absolute joke and he's making the club a laughing stock. His appointment is a failed experiment, no experience, no pedigree, no CV and no fucking idea.

Get rid, he’s failed fast! 😉

I don’t think he’ll go this early, as bad as its been. I know people are looking at the 2 week break as a good time for a switch, but dont forget theres also international breaks in October and November.

Taking the emotions out of it, I can see them thinking that with the new players just through the door and hopefully more to come by Monday, that its worth giving him a couple of weeks now to work with the squad, then theres 5 games before the October break. Maybe see how we are 3 or 4 games into that and if its no better, then it’s time to change. Also gives them plenty of time to sound out a replacement (and new names might be available by then as well).

Not saying I’d do that as such, but COH dont seem to do anything in a rush do they? Then again, we don’t really know anything about them, so nothing would surprise me.

Id love Dyche but I don't think we'll get him and likewise I doubt they'd go back to Wilder. I don't think we'll go for someone in work but if we are then Challinor would be great in my view as I've said a lot. From those out of work Danny Rohl is an obvious one. O'Neil was awful at end of Wolves and I'm not convinced he's the right man but he dyd keep Bournemouth up although I recall they spent a lot in the January window too.

I can't see Selles staying beyond Ipswich if he loses that but if he goes before then it gives the new guy to me to train with the team.

My mates in a golf group chat there’s a few ex pro’s in the group one who use to play for the blades once upon a time early to mid 90s and still gets bits of info through one way or another and he’s put in their group chat that Rohl is to come in I don’t know when if it’s this week or next week or maybe after Ipswich or after the next bad result but apparently rohl is the guy they want

I'd take that myself. I don't give two hoots about hes managed Wendy and he's done really well there. I think with this team of players he'd get us playing well and defensively sound.

I'd actually take him, I wasn't too upset when he was linked initially.
I don't think he's a bad choice TBF, kept both Bournemouth and Wolves in the PL in his first seasons with them, so.

He can be a bit of a moaner with excuses at times, but he wasn't the first manager to complain about a lack of investment and signings at Wolves, Lopetegui left Wolves for the same reason.

October/November will be too late.
That's like having chronic toothache and giving it another month before seeing a dentist.

I don’t even know if he would come just cos the board want him doesn’t mean he wants it, I’m also not stuck on idea I think it needs someone like dyche or cooper but I think we could end up with an O’Neil or Nick Montgomery who was in stands last week with bettis

It may be hope and heart but I’m inclined to believe you

Monty, WOW (a no for me, but may suit others)!

Who replaces him ? I’ve passed the info on I received about rohl, but I’d pass on him I can’t see them asking wilder to come back I’d like cooper or dyche, I can half understand O’Neil sort but still I don’t want him either I think Nick Montgomery job would be to big for him even tho he understands the club, is there anyone else or someone capable of doing a good job any one already in a job we could poach ?

The board need to hold up their hands & make the change now, it’s completely negligent to do anything else. Sellés’ original appointment showed zero emotional intelligence by the board, remove a manager who was popular with the (majority) of fans & players, who got 90+ points & replace him with a rookie. He was on to a loser to begin with. Add in that Hull & Reading fans were scratching their heads & it became even more bizarre. Even if it had begun in a less calamitous fashion, he’d still have faced a near-impossible uphill battle & in that respect I worry whether the board have the faintest idea of what it takes to run a successful club. After witnessing the season’s opener at BDTBL my 3 word match summary was “sacked by October”. That could now be September 1st & absolutely needs to be. His seeming inability to see what almost literally everyone else can is damning in itself, but most damaging of all, is the fact that he’s made the shirt so heavy for a group that is still getting over last season & by losing the fans this can only get worse. Surely the board must see the urgent need to cut our losses & get a new face in to work with the boys over the next 13 days, but if they didn’t have the emotional intelligence to make a more suitable appointment in the first place, I wonder if they’ll find some now?

Monty is not ready in my view. He was awful at hibs I think?

There is literally no evidence to suggest if they give hi in those 5 , we won't be even further behind.

Even with Slav you could see certain areas of positivity.

As mentioned above One for Barry and Cannon for Campbell before chucking all his subs on and changing the system just showed he clearly does not have a clue.

In contrast, with a much less talented squad, Rob Edwards, has his team organised, motivated and identified our weakness and surgically attacked it all game. That's the kind of coaching we all thought we were getting....

I agree. Not saying its what I would do, but lets not forget this is the same bunch who took weeks to decide to move Wilder on and who waited until the last week of the transfer window to actually start moving properly. They don’t seem to do anything quickly, and since Selles was their man, I don’t think its beyond the realms they give him a few extra weeks and a few extra games with the new players .

Just can't see this happening. They're going to want to make sure the next man in is a safe pair of hands. Rphl would be as big a gamble Selles. It'll be a Dyche, Cooper type. If not either of them, it will be an experienced championship manager....
