Mentally Weak

You can talk about tactics and players playing out of position but one of the biggest factors for me is the the players are mentally weak. If they can't adapt to playing in a slightly different way they have no chance of ever playing at a higher level. It also doesn't excuse being able to string three passes together. What we have seen from this bunch however is:

  • a total capitulation at the end of last season
  • completely throwing the play off final away
  • a general approach in many games last year to score 1 goal and then look like a rabbit in the headlights
  • people throwing toys out of the pram because they are being asked to do something different

They are still at it now - feeling sorry for themselves after last season. When the going get tough all I see is the heads going down and everybody looking at each other. There are no leaders in that team. Makes you wonder what the captain is doing...

I'd argue with you slightly in this. I think in the second half yesterday we saw our 'big' players O'Hare & Hamer especially say fuck it and started freestyling. Obviously the first half set up was utter bollocks, so in the second half they just took it upon themselves to do their own thing.

It's not their fault we only had one centre midfielder so couldn't get control or dominate, so every time we lost the ball it took an age for us to get it back, and in Cannon, by some distance, the worst player on the pitch.

Other than shouting at the ref and looking for fights .....................not much!

Would you want to stop with the dogs abuse he gets from our fans? Thought he was our best player yesterday. Coburn was a handful but I thought he gave as good as he got. Jack Robinson is currently the least of our problems.

How many sides have we played in the past that have a mixture of big fuck-off units in defence, at least one in midfield and one up front, and a bunch of rapid short arses capable of passing to a team mate in the rest of the side? And who is our equivalent? The last big defender we had was Souttar.

Now, I’m not sure this is relevant or not, but when balls come in to the defence to be headed then I don’t really want to watch someone who could look Derek Geary in the eye without bending down competing for the ball, because they’ll be watching the fucking thing without getting near it.

Some actual tactics wouldn’t hurt either.
 
I don’t think you can just rely on Peck in holding midfield. Poor lad looks lost without Souza - I think he was one of our biggest losses - so that it now is all on Peck and he needs someone to help him. I also think that last season (his first) and disappointment has affected him understandably … and needs someone senior to support him, even some time out of the team would help him come back stronger

He's struggling but pretty sure he did well last season when Souza was out injured.
Another one who currently looks lost and confused by whatever it is we're trying to do.

I’ve worked for my share of poor managers. I imagine most of us have. It’s when professional pride and mental fortitude are called for. You can usually tell the people who have them and those that don’t.

It's all well and good having pride in your own role, but people work better when they are happy in their working environment and believe in what they are being asked to do. These players don't appear to believe and seem unhappy.

You can be unhappy and still perform well. At least in terms of the absolute basics of the job, which we aren’t seeing at the moment. Maybe they need to stop feeling sorry for themselves and crack on.

They are being set up to fail before they even walk out onto the pitch and they know it. Not an ideal working environment.
 
Players low on confidence doesn't help, though Cooper looks like he's got some of his confidence back and looked almost like the Cooper of last season on Saturday.

Robbo wanting to leave isn't the biggest problem on the pitch, but it's one of the biggest problems off the pitch.

While I still want Robbo gone, a part of me does feel sorry for him, he clearly wants to leave but he can't go anywhere until we sign a replacement, and you can see how frustrated he is about it.

Would hope that the following sequence of events takes place next week.
RND leaves, Tanganga signs, Robbo leaves, Mee signs, with Woo signing around this time as well.

2 CB's depart, 2 CB's and 1 RB sign.

That would leave us with Woo Young Seol, Seriki, Godfrey, Tanganga, Zatterstrom, Mee, Burrows and McCallum (8 players) to build a defence out of.

Then we can go out and sign the following.
1 x CM/CDM
1 x RW
1 x ST

This is why we need to sign Mee

Soumane, but unfortunately he didnt get played on Satday if he is our Souza replacement he isnt going to learn the English game sat on the bench.
