Get Rid of COH

This again. Sigh.

Context is everything. We have owners who inherited a well performing, if not an attractive style, half way through a season when our luck riding was masking our ineffectiveness in a coherent play style.

They also inherited a manager who, despite having a great history, was a cheap option when we were getting spanked in the prem.

They also backed this manager heavily to build on the momentum gained throughout the season, which failed down to mainly, said manager.

They’ve also inherited key players with contracts expiring, leaving little to no space to negotiate, especially since said players wanted to leave.

This is their first actual season in charge, and with Selles it’s obvious that we’re trying something new. Will it guarantee instant success? Highly unlikely. Does that mean it’s destined to fail? Absolutely not.

FFS lads we need some patience, the window isn’t closed and we’re finding our feet still. This is how change works.

Calling for Wilder back is nonsense. He’s a reset to what we know, which currently is protective, dull and insipid football. It may get results but is also likely to implode as we saw last season. How many games did we win comfortably?

We WONT evolve as a club without trying something new, period. Our part as fans is to support the change as much as we can.

Context - We’ve lost TWO games. Two. We are going to lose more throughout the season. Promotions aren’t won or lost after two games.

I agree with ekke287. Let's be cautious about calling for COH to go at this stage. They got badly shafted by Wilder when shelling out £10m for Tom Cannon, who was no doubt presented as the last piece in the jigsaw to get promotion, and they now want control of spending even if it has left the team with temporary problems. Both they and the manager need ten games at least before we can come to any conclusions.
Incidentally, I'm not sure how often the owners attend matches but their presence at the Lane on Boxing Day (to witness Souttar's season ending injury) and at the play off final at Wembley did not help us one bit.

Let’s not beat around the bush, they don’t have any interest or football knowledge to get where this great club belongs.

Absolutely no strategy, no money and no knowledge of what it takes to own a club of this size, they thought it was going to be a quick win, and get us to the prem with next to no investment, If what I’m saying is incorrect, then they have TWO weeks to prove that they mean business.

We need at least SIX Players, a mix of top end champ players and excellent quality prem loans, to stand ANY chance of challenging top2.

The current set up it’s totally bottom third - I know it u know it! and it’s totally depressing. Selles doesn’t have a chance, and I’m not blaming him one bit. todays game was an extension of what Wilder had to dish up, only Wilder got that extra out of them for 95% of the season because of the togetherness and the culture he instilled. I wanted Wilder gone and I stand by that as I absolutely thought that the new owners would in their worlds “modernise every area of the club” well the signs are far from that - they’re taking us backwards.

If they’re not capable of owning a club of our size then they need to fuck right off… we aren’t Wednesday and we won’t allow shit owners destroy our club -then moan when it’s too late.

This isn’t a cry for spending money they can’t afford - this is a cry that if you can’t support this club then get the fuck out and sell us to someone who knows football and can invest in us.
Completely pointless post and a waste of your time typing it. Unless you’re going to tell us how you’re planning to get the owners to sell.

How exactly are you "not going to allow it" ?

Will you be doing this now, or waiting til the transfer window ends?

We all have our opinions. I don’t think it’s nuts to have concerns about the strategy of the board.

Maybe they will prove me wrong before the window closes. In the meantime we’ve been dicked by two average sides and a Birmingham side playing at half pace.

I’d contend that maybe it’s nuts not to have concerns about that?

I have concerns also, the difference is I’m not suggesting we need to “get rid of COH”.

It’s ok to be concerned, but it’s fucking nuts to suggest they need to go at this early stage in their ownership of the club.

I’m not sure that’s either the insult you think it is, or if you’re even using it in the right context.

I’m not sitting around clapping our current failure, but I’m also not impatient enough to ignore that change needs time.

If you want to assign a tag to make you feel better though, go for it.

It is possible though to have a view without having to be either a bed wetter, clapper or whatever else is being deemed label worthy right now.

Getting them to sell

finding a buyer

finding a buyer who is willing to pay what the Americans would want

find a buyer who is going to spend loads of money on players as and when we demand

find a buyer who gets through EFL checks

find a buyer who isn't going to sell off our stadium

find a buyer who isn't going to run us into the ground a la S6

12 months ago we started the campaign on -2 because we hadn't been able to afford payments

32 months ago we had a transfer embargo for the same financial issues.

Morecombe have gone, S6 is looking more rusty than normal, one of the biggest clubs in the world in Manchester United was making people redundant.

The chances of us getting a Billionaire who is then going to blow loads of money is slim.

I am not happy with our transfer window, but things could be a lot lot lot worse.

We might have to just accept that we are going to be a mid table championship side. If that means we can grow the academy, add value to the club and not go bust. I would absolutely take that.

Just like we all keep telling the pigs, it’s nothing to do with us, the fans. How will we ‘not allow’?
There are ways for us to pressure the ownership into selling, it's just a bit mental to be thinking about that at this point.

Chances are we will be a work in progress this season and anywhere near the top 6 will be a bonus. We will probably see Burnley again next season along with Wolves and A N other so we might have to look at it this way and build for promotion next season. Calling for new owners is just silly.

Perhaps they don't have any interest in the Game of Football. But maybe they have an interest in acquisitions, or buying low priced stock and selling it on at a higher price - they might like a little flutter in stocks and shares - or laying on bets in futures, not as part of their multimillion dollar empires, but as a group of friends that like to challenge each other and come up with ideas. And they have been very successful at it. I'm not talking of simply buying the club to gamble on it getting to the Premier League and selling it in this example, because that's frankly a boring and dangerous way to try it.

They might be big sports fans, but are more interested in the 'player' angle - searching for gems and bargains, developing them and selling them for a profit. Similar to baseball cards. And they love using databases and technology to create money that way. I mean, for a geek like me, that would be a very interesting and entertaining way of looking at football. Part of the fun* in playing Football Manager computer games is buying lower league players and selling them to a bigger club.

And if they are making money that way, and some of that is used to develop and improve Sheffield United - then that could be a benefit to us also.

As long as there is someone there in the club who has a knowledge of football and which player positions we need to improve, and pass that on, then it could be a really good future for the club.

But as a side issue - if they are into AI, and searching databases for information - I sincerely hope they are also searching this database - this forum - because it doesn't take a very complicated AI toolbot, for them to realise we need a better defence! 🤣🤣

*I use the word fun, because I think that's why they bought us - a little flutter here, and sell on there - to see if their 'base price' has risen - there's nothing wrong with that - it's up to us fans to keep the Sheffield United dream alive and to keep supporting the club, and hopefully over time our passion and love of United will make them see how important this club is to us, and maybe, they will fall in love with it too.

I think you could be right about the fun aspect, I've no doubt alot of the foreign owners buy clubs just to sit round the dinner table with their pals to brag about having a good old English football club, with little or no idea about football or commitment to take the club forward.

Financially we’ll never be sustainable as a mid table Championship club though. We’ve tried it in the past and ended up needing our owners to bail us out annually.

Don't remember an abundance of suitors when the prince put us up for sale last time

They need to sell up and get out of our club they don't understand our club mor do they care about our fans.
I can never get my head around this ‘don’t understand the club’ remark? Can you explain what it is, that there is to understand about Sheffield United specifically, that is different to any of our peers, that also harbour aspirations to become an established Premier League side?

I’ve been going to Bramall Lane for over fifty years and I haven’t got a clue what sets us apart, or exactly what it is that the owners don’t understand?

Is it about where they get their haircut?

Maybe….They might want to get rid of us?
Perhaps they saw the paltry turnout at Wembley for the biggest game in English football and thought they can’t grow this club any bigger.

Protest, boycott, disrupt games, try to get games called off, kidnap their children, self immolate on the centre circle.

None of it forces them to sell, but it'll have some impact.
