Fantastic. 1922 FA cup semi against Bolton, Old Trafford (I think). It's in a book I thought I'd lost and spookily happened upon tonight whilst trying not to get excited about Sunday. They look like they might have had a few. And I'm not sure I'd get into Wembley with a fairly realistic looking cutlass (on the left). Lets hope we get a better result this time. UTB.

That is a fantastic picture - I could look at that for hours. 1922 - barring the cutlass and rattle these 3 could be spotted anywhere in North West London on Sunday.

Made my night that has.

The club shop sold better merchandise in those days too. ;)

I still dont get the phrase play up , whoever it may be, play up / hoof ball , or play up to your potential, seems a strange choice

I have seen this picture before and I thought it was before the 1936 Cup final. We played Bolton in the semis in 1923 not 1922

If and its a big one ,IF we get to the final we should make it the modern day flat cap final ,everyone wear them as a look back to our last appearance in a proper cup final. Marketing mans dream.

I believe that this photo was taken outside Endcliffe Park, on Rustlings Road, in Ecclesall.

It's just on the small roundabout, across from where the entrance to Bingham Park also is.

Snow looks to be on the pavements, and the guy looking on from behind seems to be wrapped up well against the elements, so Britain was probably experiencing a cold early Spring.

Love the picture, supporting football looks to be so innocent and fun back then, less of the tribal aggression and the seriousness of today.

I hope these 3 Sheffield lads had a grand day out following the Blades that weekend, and I'm sure they did.

Yeah I think it's before 1936 Cup final, it's in something like Sheffield United the Biography. Great photo all the same.

Not sure now as Mighty Blades says that the location is probably outside Endcliffe Park and that there is snow on the ground (I hadnt really noticed that until Mighty Blades brought it up)

I found this photo on t'internet just now, it looksBlades in 1936.jpg like Buckingham Palace Gate just near Victoria if I were to hazard a guess, I thought Endcliffe Park was a little fanciful!

Sad to report that after we went 1-0 down, the bloke with the cutlass, already smacked off his face on scouring powder and Ajax in an early version of crystal meff (look at those eyes) beheaded his bow-tied mates in an honour killing at Wembley.

The stewards ignored it....

The first one, my guess would be Green Park (the walk between Green Park and Hyde Park, but not sure.

Second one, I love the fact that although its in black and white, we all know what colours they have! Superb.

The chap on the left as you look at it - plastic (was it invented then) alright then - bakerlite. I mean, come on - 'Play Up Sheffield'!!!!

Great photos.

maybe the first photo was when they were about to depart from Sheffield (there were a lot of smog in Sheffield in these years) and the 2nd picture is after they arrived in London?

Nay, I doubt it, I reckon that the first photo may be sand on the ground it doesn't look cold enough for snow does it? the hooligans breath isn't condensing.
Rotten Row in Hyde Park is a broad sandy track for trotting horses along, they may have covered streets in sand where the Horse Guards would regularly 'march?'. It looks a bit like the street along the Knightsbridge side of Hyde Park, I'll see if I can spot the gates on go ogle earth as I'm fed up with work!

I reckon the 2 photos were taken within a minute of each other as the lads have the same accoutrements in the same hands. I think that the railings in both photos are the same ones.

Maybe you are right but there is no doubt that the photos were in 1936 not in 1922 as someone said (we were in semis in 1923 not in 1922)

OK, Found them!

this is from Getty images UK (I own no rights and if anyone would like to purchase the photos they may buy them from the aforesaid firm.)
I did look on the mall in google earth as it still has broad carriage-ways next to the road, but I couldn't spot the gate or lodge.
