We sold Anel over a week ago

If its the clubs decision not to panic buy to appease fans then that's fine.
It's not about buying players its getting the right players and not blowing money on duds.

With the development ( AI data) players its different , if you get 50% of them right it probably makes sense as its relatively low risk .

The oven ready 1st team players are more expensive gambles so it makes sense to be more circumspect .

Will all the balls fall into the right spots before the window closes? Maybe , maybe not but that's the same for all clubs .

Bournemouth have sold 3 of their back 4 , Tottenham need a maddison replacement and Newcastle have arguably the best striker in Europe who's downed tools .

All these will be held to ransom from prospective sellers knowing how desperate they are , its a mad world that no clubs no matter what their resources are immune from ( except Real Madrid possibly) .

Bettie is average at best - he has been here long enough to know how it should work but he is just a yes man for whichever Owner is in place. He has no balls to go against their opinions

I don't know mate. When you look at things overall, we are not generally the worst run club, far from it in fact. But something seems to make us drag our heels with signings every season, At the same time I am aware that on occasion one will come quickly out of nowhere, but they are a rarity. Hopefully we get a couple of those before Saturday.

I have no doubt that work is being done, but it's a persistent theme year after year with this club, that players fly out of the door quicker than a curry flies out of my arse on Saturday morning, whereas incomings seem to take an age.

I have defended Bettis in the past, when others have got on his back, but as CEO he is responsible for operations and this keeps happening. I am afraid to say that starting the season with only 1 experienced CB, who is injured, is a dereliction of duty.
The main constant for the last 10 years in all these recruitment ins and outs problems is Steven "the man from Del Monte" Bettis. You would have thought things should improve now he is on the Board Mmmm sadly mistaken. Maybe him and Hoyland find trying to get a curry back up their arse a problem, maybe vaseline and a funnel would help!!!

He's still not been replaced. We will more than likely not have a centre half in for Swansea.

Jack Robinson is still our starting centre half. Our only senior depth is Rhys Norrington Davies.

We simply have to work quicker. It's not good enough. We're essentially at risk of just throwing games.
It wasn't three bad results at the start of last season that cost us promotion. By the transfer window closes we'll be four games into the season. That's when questions need to be answered, not after one game when a sale of a key player came out of the blue in 24 hours.

I agree and understand the frustrations, some are just going way over the top with the criticism when it might not even be warranted.
Naghh it's totally warranted starting RND Saturday was plain stupidity- not even negligent, stinks of having not a scooby what they are doing. I know all the answers you'll reply with but sorry YES they have completely got the transfer business wrong. Robbo goes thats 3 CB's needed incoming - 10% of games will be done and they won't be anywhere up to speed. It's defenceless as are SUFC. And can you see them spending the 20 million on the 3 CB's that is necessary because I can't. So far you'd be generous to say this lot have a clue- The Pauper Prince was so far - much better. We will see.

Given that they weren't expecting Anel to be sold so quickly and were probably planning on letting him go once a replacement had been signed, who else were they supposed to play against Bristol? It was either RND or Robinson. I'll admit that I was surprised that it was RND over Robinson.

The Anel deal came out of the blue and he was gone in 24 hours. They were never going to tell Fenerbache and Anel to wait until we'd signed a replacement as they Fenerbache needed him for Champion's League qualification, and there was no guarantee we'd get a replacement in quickly enough. Anel could've forced the move as Isak as trying to do at Newcastle, and the players always win in those scenarios. He may well have told the club that he wanted to play in that match and demanded the move. If we said no and Fenerbache pulled out of the deal you now have a sulking player on the books, and we've witnessed Anel downing tools and sulking in the Premier League. Let's not forget that.

Selles was probably hoping that we wouldn't sell Anel until the end of the transfer window by which point a replacement would have been brought in. The Fenerbache deal came about quicker than anyone expected and we had no choice but to go with RND and Robinson as a result. If you want to blame anyone blame Wilder, as he's responsible for both getting new contracts and still being here. Without the new contracts we'd probably have signed another centre back or two on a free transfer, but we couldn't as two squad places were taken up by Dumb and Dumber thanks to Wilder.

Are we waiting on to sign Van Dijk or Saliba? Because this waiting scenario makes it sound like they're unreal defenders. 3 CBs if Robinson or RND leave.

We NEEDED defenders before Anel was sold...

There's been CBs this summer who've moved to championship clubs that would've been an improvement on Robinson, RND and the youth.

Harry Darling
Conor Coady
Nat Phillips
Cameron Burgess

Cedric Kipre
Erin Cashin
Ashley Phillips

This situation is an escalating issue across all the domestic leagues, with everything written in sand until 5 or 6 games into the season.

What is the actual rationale for the transfer window running to the end of August?

Life was much simpler when the transfer windows didn't exist (although in fairness I do enjoy a break from the obsessive speculation trawling that now ends at the start of September).

If there has to be a deadline, why not make it the start of the season?

We could have told Fenerbache to wait al long as they wanted, he went to Feynerood 😀

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but the league table is decided on an accumulation of points over the 46 games each team plays?

Do wins in August not count for 3 points?

Just your weekly reminder that the last time we signed a centre half was Auston Trusty. And he was shit. Before that, Anel in July 2022.

I don't get why we are seemingly neglecting such an important position. It's not glamorous signing center halves but they are something of a necessity.
None are good enough. Apparently.

Meanwhile, we trot out Jack Robinson and Rhys Norrington-Davies as our only senior owned centre backs.

If some people believe what they write then I am in disbelief as to what goes on in their heads.

Here's a thought.
If the ideal player(s) we have lined up can't be signed until other things have fallen into place what should we do?
Give up on our preferred choices and just take what's available now, regardless of suitability?
Here's a thought.

No, we shouldn't sell our first choice CB first, cue excuses etc etc

I'd be Bettis for the salary he's probably on, as disappointing as it would be for me to fuck over the team I support but YES, pays the bills and then some

This Korean lad seems like the exact situation explained above - his current team wanted him to stay until the Champ League Qual.

We could have spent an extra £1.5m extra to hit his sell out and get him a week earlier but we waited.

Arguments both ways but this is the type of thing we will be up against.
What Korean lad? Not the guy from Bayern Munich?

It's easy to blame the current board and manager, but this problem hasn't suddenly sprung up. If selling one CB (when you've also signed one) causes this issue, then clearly it's a long standing problem.

You can see what will happen we hang on mess about and suddenly realise we are in the last few days of the window. Then we have a choice pay over the odds buy any old crap or god forbid we are left with only C-3PO and RND.

Looks to me like only little old Sheffield United could get taken over by Americans without two dimes to scratch their arses with.

Plenty of lifelong Blades would have got rid of Wilder as well.

They're not American and I'm sure know more than "nothing" about football!
Many 1000's of Blades would have been happy to keep Chris- the small clique on here who seem to despise him are certainly not representative of the majority.

Couldn't careless if owners are American so far their tenure is poor and although The Prince was short of funds I genuinely thought he had come to love Sheffield United and really had our best interests at his heart, so far I cannot say that at all with these new guys, obviously hoping I'm wrong but I cannot see a squad being prepared anywhere near as good as last years.

And so far the AI thing is just laughable.

What a fucking great op ! Hadn’t even thought of that 😂 All the club bashing by certain people is absolutely hilarious! I just can’t understand if everything is just so easy why people are on this forum, surely they could be earning millions 🤷
Give it a rest , it’s boring . We are where we are let’s try and get behind the club , manager and players for a bit (at least this month?). I’m sure we are trying behind the scenes, we all want new signings but as of yet they haven’t materialised, they may or may not do as well ! But for crying out loud let’s give it a couple of months and see where we are !
As ever UTB !

When the window closes there will be 42 matches left or 126 points to play for. So why the desperation?

I’m happy to wait until the last minute to get our first, second or third choices rather than panic buy and get anyone who’s available now that probably isn’t going to improve us.

The season has started.

At least if we don't strengthen by the start of September, loads will have no piss and spunk left and a few will probably spontaneously combust.

I thought I was sweating with the heat today but I wonder if it's actually the deluge of floods of piss on here seeping through my phone.

I really hope you are right YES, I'd love there to be identified targets and a real plan, I was hoping these new owners would invest big and give it a right go; but so far we've not seen anything on a grand scale it's pretty much been totally underwhelming. There is nothing whatsoever wrong with your rationale but myself and a fair few on here are feared that the PJ's aren't getting dry any time soon.

Not glamorous but it’s the foundations in the house along with keeper
