He's still not been replaced. We will more than likely not have a centre half in for Swansea.

Jack Robinson is still our starting centre half. Our only senior depth is Rhys Norrington Davies.

We simply have to work quicker. It's not good enough. We're essentially at risk of just throwing games.

Here's a thought.
If the ideal player(s) we have lined up can't be signed until other things have fallen into place what should we do?
Give up on our preferred choices and just take what's available now, regardless of suitability?

Because the deal to get the cash for him might have been dependent on him going when he did, rather than risk a no-sale and losing him for less or even free later down the line?

I’d rather have him in the team than RND.

We’ve been round and round with this crap. Grow a backbone and time incomings and outgoings better.

I get your point Rev, but stuff happens behind the scenes that we know nowt about.
I'm still smarting from seeing Ndiaye go the way he did, but we just have to wait and see what happens in this crazy transfer window period.

This Korean lad seems like the exact situation explained above - his current team wanted him to stay until the Champ League Qual.

We could have spent an extra £1.5m extra to hit his sell out and get him a week earlier but we waited.

Arguments both ways but this is the type of thing we will be up against.

What do we do if they still can't be signed and it's 31st August at 5pm?

Wait until 1st Sept, but even in the most pessimistic of pessimistic days, I doubt you believe we'll sign no-one before the 31st of August at 5pm.
I understand you would like to have seen see at full strength or even 75% full strength with most, if not all the sales and purchases completed on the opening day of the window, so would I, but it just doesn't and can't work that way for many reasons.

I'm sorry, there's no excuse for starting the season with Norrington-Davies at centre half. Literally none.

I have no doubt that work is being done, but it's a persistent theme year after year with this club, that players fly out of the door quicker than a curry flies out of my arse on Saturday morning, whereas incomings seem to take an age.

I have defended Bettis in the past, when others have got on his back, but as CEO he is responsible for operations and this keeps happening. I am afraid to say that starting the season with only 1 experienced CB, who is injured, is a dereliction of duty.

Say what you want, and make excuses where you want, this summer has been a shambles. Granted there’s time left, but it’s still not good enough. We need to get 3 centre halves through the door, and 2 of them need to be starting quality. We also need a right back.

We’ve got a new manager who is trying to transform how we play, he needed his players in early. The club have failed him, and when he gets sacked a lot of fans will rightly say he wasn’t given a chance.

If the club thought they couldn’t get the players in quick enough they shouldn’t have sacked Wilder.

It’s a shambles from top to bottom.

So we take the hit(s) ‘until things have fallen into place’…what happens if/when they don’t fall into place at the last minute?

A risky strategy.

Just your weekly reminder that the last time we signed a centre half was Auston Trusty. And he was shit. Before that, Anel in July 2022.

I don't get why we are seemingly neglecting such an important position. It's not glamorous signing center halves but they are something of a necessity.

Because the situation Feyenoord found themselves in caused them to pay over his value to complete a quick sale.

Good players are likely to be harder to sign than shit ones. I’m sure we could’ve already signed 2 or 3 defenders similar in quality to RND and Robinson, but what would the point in that be?

That's true. I think the concern though is that we are seemingly happy to sell players in key positions before deals for good players are anywhere near to being done. That does suggest that need the money from those sales first.

It's getting immensely frustrating now. I'm not wetting the bed yet, but I am getting impatient. It's very frustrating that we're throwing away points by not getting our business done in time. It's particularly frustrating seeing other clubs get their business done seemingly 10x faster.

True, but it might be that the offers for Vini and Anel were a fair bit higher than our valuations.

I’m sure there are reasons why we’ve done what we’ve done this transfer window. It could be that the owners are skint or incompetent, but there could also be a logical strategy this window.

We won’t know until the window closes, this constant panic and bashing of COH is getting tiresome.

Bettie is average at best - he has been here long enough to know how it should work but he is just a yes man for whichever Owner is in place. He has no balls to go against their opinions

I agree largely. We won't really know what state we are in for a couple of weeks. But I do think fans are entitled to question the shape of things when the season starts too.

I class myself as a clapper normally, and I didn't over react after Saturday's result. Everything dropped for Brizzle and virtually nothing did for us. On another day that finishes 3-3 easily.

But there is no doubt that the squad isn't ready, and the complete lack of movement (so far) this week is frustrating at best.

I agree and understand the frustrations, some are just going way over the top with the criticism when it might not even be warranted.
