Team for Brum

Not sure we have much to gain from playing a first XI. If we're resting players for Swansea, it may be something like:

Davies
Polendakov Sasnauskas RND McCallum
Caceres Soumare Marsh
Ukaki - - - - Cannon - - - - One
We'll inevitably lose with that team but won't risk injuries and it's one less distraction for this season.

Yeah that team looks likely.

I was half wondering if this is a rare occasion it's worth playing a strong team for gelling reasons. But our new CBs haven't even been signed yet, so doesn't make sense to.

It looks light weight and it's really something to consider when we recruit. We must keep an eye on what we've got, what youngsters we've got and supplement with attributes that complement these. There is some pace and skill in that team, but will they be able to show it, if the opposition is bigger, stronger and more aggressive?

Yeah I like that.
But we never need to see RND play for us again.
The rest would be very interesting

5 attackers and wing backs pushing on. It’s going to put an incredible (untenable) amount of pressure on Sasnauskas, RND and Soumare.

I’d look to play largely a first choice side and give it the opportunity to see if any adjustments work.

Why not try and win? For all their ghusto they are a newly promoted team.

We shouldn’t be going there expecting to lose.

I’d go the opposite. I’d say they’ve played few games and need matches and to iron out what went wrong the other day. I’d probably make maximum 4 changes and hope we can put in a better performance and result.

Different if we’d won on Saturday but losing the first two to go into a tricky away game isn’t going to help any manager. By the time we’re at home again he could be under huge pressure.

He needs to get to the next home game without another defeat or he’s going to look like part of a failed experiment already.

I might rotate Campbell and Cannon. I’d probably like to see Ukaki get game time as a sub and same for Oné. I might consider playing Soumaré instead of Hamer.

Otherwise we need to iron out the issues and build confidence.

I don’t see why we should toss away out participation so readily.

I think Curtis may be in front of the Bulgarian guy as it stands but I think I'd go

-----------------------Davies----------------------

Curtis Sasnauskas RND McCallum

------------------Soumaré Peck---------------
-------------------------Marsh---------------------

Ukaki--------------Cannon---------------Oné

Peck & Hamer to do 45 mins each. Also got the likes of Hampson, Polendakov, Nwachuckwu, Caceres and potentially Baptiste if he's fit.

The back 4 obviously honks but 🤷🏼‍♀️

I wouldn't risk soumare in what is essentially a reserve match.
Bring him on as a second half sub.

The rest of the side you've named should be about right.

I think we should go full strength… whatever Selles thinks that is. On Saturday we looked desperately in need of some cohesion and solidity. The only way we’ll build that is to be consistent in selection and approach. If any players need resting at this stage then i seriously worry. We’ll benefit much more by building understanding and consistency… and a win would be a nice positive response to Saturday.

I see your argument. A win, keeping roughly the same team, can quickly restore belief and confidence in the team.

The main other argument is that we've got another very important game 65 hours later. Preparation and rest may be affected, and things won't look good if we're not at our best at Swansea...

I'm going to Brum but not expecting much other than a defeat.

Will be interesting to see if he puts a strong side out or not, I expect the latter.

Cooper was struggling Saturday so Davies will almost definitely be in the net.

Think we will see Sasnaukis, Ukaki, Caceres, McCallum and Cannon start at least.

Can't see anything less than a 0-3 defeat, could be worse but not bothered about the Milk Cup so it's minutes in the legs!

I like the look of Wards team. You cant go full back up players else they could end up getting pumped and that wont do there development or confidence any good at all.

In the absence of any other centre halves I'd play Binion and JLT (if he's fit). They need to build a resemblance of understanding together before any new signings come in.
Cannon needs to start.

Completely the wrong approach and a waste of a game imho. Pick the best team and get them working together effectively pending the arrival of reinforcements. What de we possibly gain by “resting” people after one match ffs.

Don't envisage Hamer playing. If he does, I'll eat my ham (not a euphemism).

I’d play a strong side. We don’t need another battering as a team and fanbase and Birmingham are a playoff rival.

Yes, why not play a “weakened” team against Brum…Then go back to square one on Saturday.
Personally I would play the tie with virtually a full first team and try and get stuff right…Use it as an additional pre-season friendly…so to speak.

We'll inevitably lose with that team but won't risk injuries and it's one less distraction for this season.
If the cup is a ‘distraction’ and we go out in the first round every year, why bother even entering it?

We need Soumare in the first team asap so if hes fit (did he do a pre season with Braga?) he needs minutes ahead of a league debut

I think Curtis is before Polendakov and there's no way RND can play. But it really does demonstrate the lack of depth. I think Robinson and Bindon will play. O'Hare and Brooks too

He was asked by someone I was sat with, post match outside the hotel, why he didn't come on. He said not ready yet.

I think Selles has since confirmed that he didn't have any pre season games with Braga.

OK so hes probably at least 2 weeks away from a league game, at best
