No, I don't think they are as big a fan - but they are still fans. Look at you team - your crowds fluctuate massively - you are all pig fans - but some are bigger pig fans than others.:)

Tell me how much it hurts Deano.

Our support is brilliant but where are these extra 15,000 fans for 99% of our games?

I'm a single bloke on a not that great wage yet I still prioritise being able to afford a season ticket.

As I've said, I don't have a problem with the part timers/glory seekers turning up for Wembley, I just wish they'd make an effort to come and watch us play Peterborough on a Tuesday night.

My daughter's coming with me to Wembley, she hasn't been since the Burnley playoff final in 2009 after having been a season ticket holder a few years ago. She doesn't qualify as a true fan, I guess, and is probably what you would call a day tripper. I don't see any problem with her coming to Wembley - she identifies with United, perhaps in a looser way than many on here, but she would always consider herself a blade and she's looking forward to an entertaining game and hoping that, for once, we can deliver on the big occasion. Surely we should accept this as being part of normal life. My son doesn't come these days, he came to the lane as a kid last decade but now enjoys climbing much more than football. When he asks me the result on a Saturday, always speaks of united as 'we'. He's a fan too, though he'll never meet the threshold of commitment that some on here expect.

I suppose my point is that we should both appreciate the support of the 15k,especially in miserable times, (I'm one of them) but also not dismiss those who may only come now and again but still think of themselves as blades.

This sort of thing could only happen at Sheffield United, after year upon year of shite being dumped on the fans we actually start to play proper football and are enjoying a fantastic cup run but a certain section of the support can't be happy and have to have a pop at fellow Blades ........................ you couldn't make it up if you supported any other team.
You know what Pinchy could well be right, some of you would love to go back to semi pro and hoofball safe in the knowledge that only 12,000 true Blades will turn out every week while we bumble around in League one forever or have a season or two fighting to stay in the Championship like Barnsley. We could bring Jon Stead and Brown back to keep it all Bladey Bladey, have a word with yourselves that is not the way to build a successful club constantly looking inwards and backwards. We need to build the fanbase and even one game a season fans put money into the club, you never know the one game wonders money might be the difference to keeping Brayford here next season or not.

The bigger and better we get, the more they'll come....we need them, the one feeds off the other.

Absolutely spot-on, especially the bit about me being right. :)

Seriously though, every person going to the semi is a potential lifelong fan. Let's welcome them, not discourage them.

Ha. That's more like it...the old pig-loving PN is back.

Last time SWFC averaged 30,000? Not for a long, long time. Fck knows when. But I'm sure you know

SWFC seasons averaging 30,000: 11
SUFC seasons averaging 30,000: 8

;)

Look how the fanbase grew during the Warnock years. From a 13500 average in his first half season (99/00) to 30500 in 06/07. A lot of it was due to winning matches of course, but reaching 2 semi finals and a play off final in the same season helped. A lot of people were obviously tempted back to the Lane in this era, and a lot have since left.

In the last 21 years, we have played in 4 FA Cup semi finals, 1 league cup semi final, and 4 play off finals. We have taken between 26-39000 for these games, showing that there are people out there who will be willing to support the club if the circumstances are right.

Pinchy is right in that these people are the future of the club. We missed a great opportunity to really put the next generation of Sheffield kids in our pockets, as we reached the prem and Parson Cross Rovers floundered in near administration and perpetual second/third tier yo-yoing.

Apologies for repeating myself but I don't have a problem with part-time fans going to Wembley. I'd rather that than have 20,000 there. It just pisses me off greatly that we've got about 10-15,000 fans that don't bother coming to the league games.

Extremist. :)

I think we should ban everyone from going to Wembley who didn't attend Millwall away in the youth cup this year.

:p

Think thats a bit harsh as it was away midweek !!
How about banning everyone that wasnt at the County Cup game v Donny at the Lane in late 70s early 80s when we had approx 900 turn up think it ended 0-0
Were you there I was you bunch of fekking part timers call yourselves Blades !!!!!!

Fair enough. I was just making the point that loads of people who are going will just be going for a day out at London/Wembley and won't give a monkeys about Sheffield United

or, substitute absolutely any team that gets to a big game. Will all the Hull fans be dyed-in-the-wool Tigers fans, or will some of them think 'Hmm. Big game at Wembley. I fancy going to that.'?

For us that go to see MKD, Yeovil etc. on a freezing Tuesday night in winter, this is what makes it all worthwhile. For the rest? Jump aboard. You're all welcome!

Even Wendy would take around 250,000 yet how come their home crowds are 18k + away fans? Or would you rather see loads of empty seats in the Blades end at Wembley, with all the piss-taking by Wendy/RS/Stir that would entail?

It's a great effort by United. Don't forget, home gates are being hit as not everybody has limitless money and prefer an (expensive) day out in London to a Tuesday night game with Peterborough. Doesn't make them 'day trippers' or 'glory hunters', though.

Can I be excused from this one as I hadn't been born yet?

I too often wonder why so many dont turn up more often , then I look at where we are in the league , and the squad we had last August

not rocket science , is it

I would prefer a coordinated rendition of the GCB for once on a looped playback

Gentlemen... a reminder to keep things civil please.

As for the discussion, as many people can go as they fancy for me as long as:

* any regular attendee gets priority, as had happened
* there's not a massive queue at whichever pub we end up in

Count me in , distant memory now but me and a couple of showboat skins were at a game v Donnie in that era .

Used to like reading some of your posts , but will just ignore everything you post after sending this ,
Anybody Stupig enough to quote them and us attendance records is worthy of utter contempt .
Cock , blah , blah .

The non regulars will not know what an expensive con Wembley is and will be in the ground at 1.30 to 'soak up the atmosphere'

I saw this first hand in 2008 when Barnsley got to the semi-final against Portsmouth. I know more people that went who were either:

a) Football fans but didn't support Barnsley

b) Not football fans at all. Mainly girls who got dragged along by their dads etc

The second point would suggest that you know a lot of girls. Hmmm. I suspect the books may have been cooked here Nuddy. :D

You do realise I'm just trying to annoy him by playing up to this fantasy he has of me being a Wednesday fan. In a type of 'ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer' type scenario.

The difference between me and him is that he obviously cares about attendances whereas I don't give a shit.
