I can't believe that anyone who pays to watch Sheffield United, a club that has not played in a cup final since 1936, won a major trophy for 89 years and spent only 5 of the last 38 years in the top division, could ever be labelled a day tripper.

Well I'll tell you what, my sister and her boyfriend went to the semi-final against Arsenal in 2003 and they're fucking day trippers.

I'd love for you to explain to me how they're not.

What was the point of your post about day-trippers then? Forgive me, but it seemed rather contemptuous to me. I think one or two others have got the same false impression as well!

blader originally said that there will be 33,000 Blades fans at Wembley. I was merely pointing out that that's not strictly true.

Apparently that makes me a Sheffield Wednesday fan. Go figure.

Including the Hull game, my brother will have been to 3 games in 5 years.

Burnley v Blades Play Off Final
Huddersfield v Blades Play Off Final
Hull v Blades FA Cup Semi Final

There's no such thing as day trippers when it comes to following SUFC. There is no glory to hunt, as such. Just near misses and heartbreak.

My brother has been to one match in the last 2 years and he's going to the Hull game. I'll leave you to guess the only game that he's been to. Pisses me off when people don't even consider going to the matches normally yet when it comes to the big games, they're desperate to get a ticket.

Help me understand this, because I'm struggling. You want us to have less fans? If not, where do you think the additional supporters that we'd like to have filling The Lane every week will come from, if not from going to a match or two as a casual and "getting the bug"?

I've seen some spectacularly daft stuff on here, over the years, but this is right up there. Perhaps we could have a special "no day-tripper" section for Nuddy and Whitehawk?

At least he didn't scrounge off anyone to use their season ticket and waited till they were on general sale. There was no way I was letting him use my loyalty points to get a ticket on the first day.

I can't believe people still have debates about these things.

Some people go to every game, some don't, some pick and chose, some are dictated by money, family, location, work. There's a million and one factors, but only one that counts - when their there, their there for SUFC.

My concern is merely for getting myself and the kids to as many games as possible, whoever else turns up is a welcome bonus!

I never said I don't want them to be there. As per my previous post in here, I'd rather us have 33,000 at Wembley than 20,000 but it just pisses me off when people don't even consider going to watch us normally yet as soon as the big game at Wembley comes along, they want to be there.

I think you've confused day tripper with glory hunter.

I wouldn't make a distinction really. Two relegations in four years, and consistently finishing in a lower position for the past 5 years on the trot is hardly going to bump up attendances, is it? The fans are out there, it just depends on what the team can produce to motivate them to turn out.

Somebody going to a Grimsby Town match could be a day tripper. It has nothing to do with the past success of the club.

Not really 33,000 Blades though is it?

It's about 15,000-20,000 Blades and 10,000+ day trippers.
Who need piggy fans slagging off our support when Ndlovu081 does it for them. What about the extra 10.000 at the Charlton match. Have a word with yourself, excuse for a Blade

So then, have we really got 15,000 fans that can only afford to go to one game every 18 months?

Just ignore me, I'm in a bad mood because Wednesday are losing.

Whatever it is, I hope you come to your senses soon and realise why it's a good thing for United to have as many fans as possible and that those extra fans have to start somewhere.

That's the problem though. They don't start at Wembley. They turn up for it then don't bother showing their face again until we get to Wembley again.

As I said, it's not that I don't want them there. it just pisses me off that they can't be arsed to support us any other time.

Every single club in the world gets more fans for bigger games and when in a higher division. It doesn't mean those who don't go in League 1 aren't fans. Personally I'd go if we were non-league but not all fans are the same.

To knock our support - or have a go at those buying Wembley tickets just because they don't go every week - is pathetic. Given what we have had to put up with for most of the last 40 years, our support is second to none.

Our support is brilliant but where are these extra 15,000 fans for 99% of our games?

I'm a single bloke on a not that great wage yet I still prioritise being able to afford a season ticket.

As I've said, I don't have a problem with the part timers/glory seekers turning up for Wembley, I just wish they'd make an effort to come and watch us play Peterborough on a Tuesday night.

So somebody who has willingly never been to watch us in a League One match is just as much a fan as somebody who goes every week?

Your definition of a fan is very different to mine.

No, I don't think they are as big a fan - but they are still fans. Look at you team - your crowds fluctuate massively - you are all pig fans - but some are bigger pig fans than others.:)

Hull will be my second match of the season, Fulham away having been my first. Prior to that my last match was huddersfield at Wembley, which was second game of that season, MK Dons having been the other. In our relegation season my only match was Watford away.

Guess I'm a day tripper/glory hunter too...but then Wembley is pretty much my local ground :)

I would absolutely love to watch United every match, home and away. But I live 150 miles away and my young family is also a priority. I'm no less a Blade than a season ticket holder for the last 40 years. I've felt every relegation and big match defeat just as much as everyone else. You have to accept, as was said earlier, people have a myriad of reasons for not attending regularly, it's not for us to question them.
