Has anybody actually bothered to listen to the interview before shitting the bed at the headline?!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0lvq4mp

Interviewer: "Have you been told that you'll be able to reinvest some of the money you've got from Anel, Vini Souza, Kieffer back into the squad or will it be frees and loans?"

Selles: "No, We've been told we can reinvest the best part of that money and that's what we are looking (for) now. Its about how you spend that money on what we need.

In my mind it's not about replacing player-by-player, we need players that are exciting because of the way that they play football and they can give us support straight away. That's not easy.

From the board to the CEO, we have a 'yes' about investing part of that money."

Somehow the headline is the last 5 words, and made out to be some horror story.

How on earth has anyone put hugely negative spin on that quote - do people honestly expect we reinvest every single penny of those transfer fees and not a penny goes towards running the club?!

We've taken some decent fees and we're now looking at signing some quality that instantly improves the team with a chunk of that cash.

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Or am I just a clapper?...
Good to know there are some sensible listeners on this forum.
New pitch and other off field investments have to be made out of additional income. The parachute money goes towards running the club efficiently.

Here we go again.

Transfer fees are a complete red herring.

Spending big on a player doesn't guarantee that he'll be good and getting a player on a free doesn't mean that he'll be crap.

For the main part transfer fees are just waste of money.

In my book it's much more important to pay competitive wages to attract good players than it is to give cash away to other clubs so that they can strengthen.

Whilst accepting that some level of Transfer fees are a necessary evil, in a perfect world I wouldn't pay any at all.

I'd concentrate on getting the fee free recruitment right to earn us loads more money when we sell a successful player so that we can repeat the cycle and attract a steadily improving standard of recruit.

In conclusion, the less we give to other clubs in transfer fees the bigger the benefit to our club, so if we pay none at all this summer then I'm not unhappy just so long as we're recruiting players.

If it’s true, then the signs for the future are not looking good. No sign of the owners putting anything in if we can’t even recycle the income from transfers.

Unproven manager, weaker squad, no signs of transfer kitty of any substance = Low expectations

Be interesting to see where we are after 5 games, looking at the fixtures 10 points would be as good as I can see.
2 points per game with an incomplete, evolving squad? I'll take that thanks

We should have £40 million parachute money - more than most Championship clubs & the £21 million in Sales so far. Also got rid of Brewster, Harding, BBD, Rak-Saki, Gilchrist & Wilson (loans last season) off the wage bill. So you’d like to think we spend a decent amount on a few more good Championship players this window!
I think you will see that to be the case, in January as well as this month.

A well run club would get players with two or fewer years left on their deal out for the right price if they won't resign. The replacements would come in on manageable Championship wages restocking the shelves with future assets on long contracts protecting the club.

The incomings should hopefully have high ceilings so they have a future sale value, and a use for our team, whether we're in the Champ or the Prem. Souza and Anel had two years or less left whilst Moore was ageing and declining. All three would've been on good money at this level with Moore's two year deal at least a year two long imo. Asset stripping or prudent decision making? The latter imo. Brewster was obviously on big money that was never going to be matched by us. The length of deal was also problematic given his injury history. It could backfire if he rips it up but I'd have made the same decision

Hopefully, whilst this 'restocking' is going on, infrastructure can improve. Particularly the academy side. If that can yield even more for us it will give us relatively low cost players that if sold at some stage will return 100% pure profit. These sales will help us to circumvent FFP restrictions regardless of the league we're in. I really hope this reaches fruition. The safe standing announcement is good. It indicates the owners are in it for the long haul. A sizeable capital expenditure to save thousands per year.

I'm essentially waiting to see if the restocking happens and whether our new custodians have the nouse to source value in the market.

Something else to factor in is what we still owe for players we signed last season.

Assuming we've agreed to pay equal amounts over the length of the contract (approximate figures).

Cooper £3mil (4yr deal) - £750k this year
Burrows £3mil (4yr deal) - £750k this year
Moore £1.2mil (3yr deal) - £400k this year
Cannon £10mil (4.5yr deal) - £2mil this year
Nwachukwu £1mil (3yr deal) - £330k this year
Caceres £1.1mil (3yr deal) - £360k this year

That's nearly £4.6mil that we need to budget for this year alone just for these players.

It gets more complicated when you factor in signings from 23/24 that we're still paying off, or players signed before that.

We're probably still receiving payments from Marseille for Ndiaye even though he now plays for Everton, unless we have an agreement that if he's sold then we receive the remainder in bulk.

It's just not as simple as we sold Anel for £7mil therefore we have £7mil to spend. Working out a transfer budget for a season must be an absolute headache due to the way deals are financed these days.

That doesn’t tell us anything because I know for a fact we will buy some players this Summer
Because in living memory we’ve always bought new players every Summer.

We have a £10 million shortfall in income so need to raise £10 million just be stay level.
Also we need to build a contingency budget just in case we fail to be promoted at the end of this season.

So it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that well only be spending a portion of the money brought in from sales, assuming the owners are competent.

We’ve built up a decent budget now so I’m expecting some serious expenditure over the next 3 weeks. We’ll see.

Think the owners are hoping some of the Academy players and new underwhelming AI signings come good and have a fantastic season. Peck surprised us all last season. We could easily be talking about Brookes, Sereki, Ukaku and One being the stars of the Championship attracting big money interest from PL clubs.
All it tells us is what Selles said. I can only take him at face value and he said we can reinvest part of what we have accumulated in transfer sales.

As for the rest of what you said I totally agree with you. We will use whatever money we can out of the funds brought in that aren't needed to fund the day to day.

Also as I stated in a previous post I get the impression he thinks he can add value to and improve some of the younger/development players so that they may become part of first teams plans somewhere along the line this year.

He said the "Best part" not "part"so that could be 51% or 91% or whatever - what you dont do is tell the selling clubs whats in your hand

And that is how you improve and progress as a sustainable football club.
