Imagine ending up going isn’t the season without those numbers filled; right back, central defensive linchpin and centre forward.

Or would they consider leaving the number 2 vacant for the season given it was Baldock’s number? Am I reading far too much into it?

Slightly awkward topic but when it comes to retiring numbers, clubs are fine to retire the high ones. Jota for example wore 23 and Liverpool will retire it. The cynic in me asks, what if he had worn the iconic number 7? Would they have been so keen?

Point still stands. As great a gesture that is, retiring a relatively obscure number attracts no detractors.

I don't think there's much to read into as far as squad numbers are concerned.

Presume Femi didn't want to change away from his current number to take #2, which is fair enough.

Players who would have retained 5 & 9 have both been sold this week. Not surprising those are left open, as the players who've featured in pre-season have already been using their squad numbers (e.g Cannon wearing 7 etc.).

Selles said that they are working to make signings, they just want the players we bring in to improve the side, not just be there to make up numbers.

I imagine those numbers will get filled out as players come through the door.
