Mcburnie

FFS how bad must it be when a player chooses Hull with a transfer embargo over Sheffield United? Are we paying peanuts? I'm starting to have serious doubts about our American owners, I'm not sure they have a clue on football matters.
Do you think the owners run day to day football matters?

Would have only been a rotation player for us would he?

Sure. Let's see us sign a better CF than him then. It'll be a long wait

It's alright pointing to Campbell but he'll barely play half the minutes available. McBurnie should have been seen as joint first choice at the very least, and they could also play together

Being unable to offer more than all the others is a very poor indication. We also appear to be selling before we buy in general. It appears anything significant the owners are willing to put in was all spent (terribly) in January

Outgunned or won't pay over the odds for a squad player?

Ipswich have higher parachute payments than us so no surprise there and Hull will see him as the marquee signing so again no surprise there.

I wouldn't have minded him back if the deal was right but I certainly wouldn't be breaking the bank and won't be gutted in any way if he goes elsewhere.

Hull are under an embargo until Jan 2027.

They're skint, Ipswich aren't.

Surely any deal would have been viewed through the prism of: we're offloading K Moore at £30k / week and receiving a £2m fee (his book value less than half that).
Therefore, a replacement needs to fit within that.

It just seems odd that we couldn't finance a free signing of McBurnie given that context.

Ull seems to be the destination.

If so, there's some "loose" links to other strikers that could potentially be good options.

While you can question the validity of these sources, we are looking for a ST so who knows 👀

  • Issac Romero (gone quiet recently): source = X rumours
  • Maurice Malone (questionable source): source = X rumours
  • unnamed Bundesliga ST: source = Jimmy Ramble
  • Unnamed Barnsley ST (hinted to be Keillor-Dunn): source = Jimmy Ramble

They might all be false rumours but if even just 1 of those rumours is true, I'll be happy.

Hull being under an embargo does not mean they're not willing to throw daft money at free transfers. For that reason, it's best if we don't try to match it should it be the case.

Would you want us to?

Hull are under a "Fee Restriction" not an "Embargo".

They can sign anyone they want, and pay whatever wages, as long as there's not a fee of any kind involved.

What is a Fee Restriction?

A Fee Restriction is applied to a Club should they default on payments for a period of 30 days or more the 12-month period starting on 1 July each year and ending on 30 June the following year (Regulation 52.6).

This includes payments due to any other Club in respect of transfer fees, compensation fees and loan fees, as examples.

This can refer to one default of 30 days, or a number of individual defaults which when taken together amount to 30 days.

The total number of days in default is reset on 1 July each year. A Fee Restriction is often referred to as the 30-day rule.

If a Club is found to be in breach, then the Club will be unable to pay or commit to pay any transfer fee, compensation fee, loan fee, or any other form of payment when registering any player from the date of the breach until it expires at the conclusion of three full transfer windows.

This means that if a Club breaches the 30-day rule during a transfer window, their Fee Restriction will cover the remainder of that transfer window plus the three full transfer windows that follow.

Unlike an embargo, a Fee Restriction isn’t lifted upon payment of the outstanding debt, but can be appealed by Clubs.

It might not be a case of not being able to finance him. Maybe we didn’t want to commit that much wage on a squad player. Its only people on here with no clue of what we are looking to do who have decided he was a must have.

But you’ll obviously always put a negative spin on anything.

I'm not sure why we'd offer more than we think he's worth, for someone that'd be a rotation option, in a less essential position (than CB and RB).
Another ex Blade that's going to score against us this season - and I'm a happy clapper 🤪

1. McBurnie
2. Brewster
3. Moore
4. Doyle
5. C Robinson

Who else have I missed ? 😂
Let them score in the first couple of minutes, then beat them for fun, like Roy of the Rovers.

I'm hoping Hull are desperate and have given him a ridiculous wage as they know they cant buy anyone and it's their only option..............

Unfortunately i think it's our owners low balling again as they've bought us with the aspirations of making money via the premier league and banked on us going up before they even got settled and had blown anything they had on Tom Cannon and champagne thinking football ownership was easy.

On the other side of the coin - i did raise my eyebrows when we got linked with McBurnie again as i didn't see him as Selles type.

Unless he leaves Cardiff for a Championship club, Callum Robinson can only score against us in the cup :)

You could add Cameron Archer and Anis Ben Slimane to the list though, along with John Egan, Dan Jebbison, John Lundcunt, Ryan Leonard, Max Lowe, Ben Osborn, Regan Slater & Ben Whiteman

Given that Doyle is in as a former loanee, Danny Batth, Ben Brereton-Díaz, Hamza Choudhury, Harry Clarke & Luke Thomas are also eligible.

Any deal for McB would be in line with the overall budget, not just a single outgoing. For Hull to outbid Utd and Ipswich (+ potentially others) is no concern to me - it just shows they've not learned any lessons in terms of financial budgeting. My view on him returning was somewhere mid-range - despite numerous cons to his game, I would have liked to see how he fitted into Selles' formation/s and style of play.

What is more concerning is the lack of height in the squad (potentially partly negated by Soumare) and the remaining gaps (RB, CB and a right-sided attacker (assuming Soumare does indeed sign and is able to contribute soon) - lack season's weakness of conceding from set pieces may get even worse this coming season unless both are addressed. Ideally, I would also prefer to have better GK cover than Davies but I suspect Copper missing for an extended period is a risk Selles is going to have to accept.

Christ we're gunna get battered 😂

We badly need height, leadership and experience. We are massively lacking in that department. What do we have left? Anel and Robinson? That's convincing isn't it

When will people learn. Judge a transfer window at the end.

We will see. Sick of hearing this.

All the clubs having decent windows have about finished their business.

The season starts on Saturday. We still are incredibly short. Even if we do make a number of signings, they are all being brought in too late with no pre season.

Which clubs have finished their business?

Actually, I'll judge the transfer window as it happens. Start, middle and end. Up to now, its been far from perfect but it has time to be turned around yet. But work needs to be done and quickly. Let's hope we don't miss out on valuable points whilst we continue to wait for much needed reinforcements.

Yep - increasingly looking like they are potless!!!

He will be Hull’s marquee signing. He would be unlikely to be a starter for us. Different clubs value players differently depending on their needs.
Just struggle to see us getting anyone better on a free which meant higher wages weren't an issue. I'd hope Moore will stay until we bring someone in.

Good grief. Moaning about transfers when there's still 4 weeks (?) left.
