Interesting thoughts on Central White versus Red Stripe. There's also thoughts around what colour shorts and socks to wear.

Personally I've always preferred WHITE socks with Black shorts, but white socks don't fair too good for us.
The shorts should ALWAYS be Black IMO.

Anyway, since WW2, here are promotion and relegation kits...

So WHITE SHORTS have never seen us promoted, but relegated twice.
Socks don't seem to matter.

We've worn Red Shorts Twice and were neither relegated or promoted:

I Enjoy seeing the team wear a kit that says “Sheffield United” as much as anyone..

However…

One of our most memorable and enjoyable seasons was 2018-19 and that was one of our worst ever kits.

Basically the kit makes no difference to how we play on the pitch.
 
I don't have a preference regarding black pinstripes or plain red and white stripes, I like them both if done well. However, I do not like a central white stripe, just looks odd, the central stripe should always be red.
 
I’m not reyt bothered about the pinstripes or not - having them every few years to keep things interesting is fine with me.

However, I didn’t like the pinstripes in the middle of the white stripes of last season. I could never tell if they were coming or going. Not for me.

The strong feelings over the “red as the central stripe” probably stem from the psychological factor of that then looking like the base colour. We’re red and white stripes as opposed to the blue and white of our unsavoury neighbours. Personally, I think it’s enough of a difference that we’re not a bunch of piggy bastards so I don’t mind the white central stripe.

the first wendy v santos in october 1962 was brilliant 4 - 2 santos pele (pen) couthinho 3 pele's penalty was something else just cut across the ball and smashed it in to the top right hand corner ron springett never moved
