Outgoing? Hamer

He looked like he belonged in the PL despite being part of our awful squad 2 years ago.
Technical ability he’s a PL player - I’d question whether his physique, fitness & tendency to give possession away are the reasons no PL side have had serious interest in him.

Sounds like what Forest fans say about MGW actually.
I’d agree, neither help a team hold onto the ball but both can have the moment of magic that leads to a goal because they try things.

I think MGW being younger & more athletic (and English) has probably raised his profile more than Hamer.

Both equally frustrating & brilliant to watch though!

28 year old who isn't a physical specimen. That's very high for him. If we make 5 million on him that's good work as long as we can replace with a younger fitter version or two
If there was a younger fitter version out there in the same budget, wouldn't the team that are rumoured to be buying him sign the younger fitter replacement instead?

I think he can play at that level, the question is whether anyone in the PL will be willing to pay for him given there is no upside at his age. If a PL move is going to happen it will probably be a end of Transfer window panic buy because they feel short for a particular need.

I suspect he'll be here next season, with the caveat that PSV have just lost Tillman for a good fee, and may be interested in Hamer for now, and a younger player they hope to develop for the medium term. Hamer is more than capable of excelling in the Eredivision.

There is a reason why a PL club hasn’t come in for him,he isn’t a PL player ! I’m sure I saw him play in the PL the season before and was found wanting, chasing shadows, bookings because he kept losing it and trying to chase back superior, athletic, technical players. I like him but he’s top end championship,no more.

Did he? He got some decent stats but he was AWOL quite often and seemed to drift in and out of games. It's also worth noting that everything went through him, which wouldn't happen in a better team.

He went missing a lot and everything went through him?! Which is it?

He’d also possibly thrive in a team where he doesn’t have to do everything, ask Sander.

I reckon some of you watch a different game to me, no way would I describe Gus as lazy. The bloke gets through plenty of work.

Not only that, do you really want your main creative player to run around like a headless chicken? I'd prefer him to be explosive when he gets it and have the energy to execute things the rest of the team aren't able to do.

But then again, some United fans won't be happy until we have the reincarnation of a Bassett XI or a side full of Nick Montgomery's. Some of you don't deserve to have players like Hamer.

He goes down injured most games because physically he is not elite. It's not that he's not putting in the effort it's that he's spent/stiff/sore that's going to put off big money for him.

Dunno if you noticed but we faded from games a lot last year.... because players like him and Campbell couldn't do a full 90

He's far from lazy, works his socks off in fact and I hope we keep him if 15-20m is only on offer.
I doubt PL will come in for him as the fitness requirements are on another level (last time we was in all our squad looked miles behind+ not being good enough obviously) I think if he goes it will be abroad to a lower end league.

I agree with most of that, but Bassett didn't play a 'Bassett XI. Remember Glynn Hodges, who John Motson was praising for his skills?

I think if he goes and we don't get a 'like for like' replacement (almost impossible in the championship ) then we are in big trouble. The amount of games he won for us was off the scale and will be impossible to replace. The only way you do it is with a completely different style of play and chance creation/goals coming from different areas of the pitch. And maybe that's what Selles will do.

I can see Forest replacing Elanga and MGW with Hamer and McAtee. That would hurt.
Different player Hamer.

I don't think Forest will be able to replace MGW. His physical attributes as well as talent are hard to replace.

I really like Hamer but don't see him being a swap for MGW. If Forest were interested it would be a different role.

Can see Mcatee going though. And truth be told he will probably flourish.

If Hamer was to go I'd be getting concerned if It's one of the promoted clubs interested or a wolves/Everton.

Can't see a club from abroad putting the fee in required right now.

But I can see someone like Leeds doing so. And it would work for his family probably too.

Yes, that's different from being lazy though - you've not read the point I was making at those who are calling him lazy. Which he isn't.

If we want promotion then that means not selling your best players.

Pretty simple really.
I do wonder what the plan is, we’ve lost -

Gilchrist, Clarke, Rak-Sakyi, Diaz, Choudhury, Holding, Souza & so far we’ve brought two players in. One of which we’re not (as fans) sure if he’s a development player or going straight in.

I think we had an expensive & big squad the second part of last season. But surely we can’t lost 7 players and bring 1 in?

We’ve got one right back who can barely play 2 90minutes in a row. If Hamer is now a central midfielder I’m not sure who plays on the left?

It’s too early to panic & I’m sure there’s a plan in place but even though we’ve got a better squad than we did this time last season, we’re still light.

... and yet, Man City showed strong interest before Tottenham triggered his release clause.
MGW was a huge reason they nearly got Champions League football.

There's no comparison to be made with Hamer.

Players that play in Hamer's role in the PL have his footballing ability, but also have athleticism, physicality / mobility and an enormous workrate in and out of possession.

I like Hamer a lot, and I think he's fun to watch but he's riding the pine at a Fulham / Palace / Bournemouth type.

With just three and a half weeks to go until the season starts, I really hope we are starting to turn the screws now and get moving with the incoming transfers.

Been more than happy with Selles being given time to assess and work with the current squad but by his own admission he is wanting to move on a couple now and maybe more. Time to get business done and at least have a couple more through the door for him to integrate with the squad and his tactics before the season starts. We are light in a number of positions and it needs rectifying, though 3 or 4 in would be what I expect and like, not 7 to replace the outgoing loans / players rhat have gone back. That would seem about right with the size of the squad.
