I think we will make some perm signings and some loans so nothing really diffferent there

My slight concern is I don’t think we got max value for Souza… if Cooper goes for £5 mil alarm bells will be ringing

What about the £20m loss on Brewster which more than cancels out your profit on Souza.
And then there's the £3m on Gbric ...
We won't have made a loss on brewster

How about this?
We are prioritising the loans and frees as they are the most in demand and get snapped up the fastest? The players that cost only get into bidding wars if multiple clubs go for them.

Wilder always claimed that the best loans crop up late on, but judging by last seasons loans, I wouldn't say we excaly excelled. A lot of big teams have been promoted with "other teams players". If NOT buying 3 or 4 helps us keep hold of Anel, Gus, Campbell and Burrows it means we only need a handful of first teamers bringing in. And if those first teamers could be MGW, Henderson, McAtee type loans... then where's the issue?

Isn’t there some sort of phrase regarding not correcting information that works in your favour?

I didn't get "We are skint" from that interview. More that we're just taking a sensible approach.

I guess it’s how you (not you personally) spin it?

We aren’t skint just being smart at how we spend the budget

We are skint but play it out to the fans that we are just being smart

The bit that I find a concern if true, is if we’ve borrowed the money to pay the Cannon fee, because if it is correct, that then makes me a bit cynical about what’s going on now

A club in the Champ is always going to see frees/loans as a first port of call. It's rare these days that clubs go out and buy players at this level (some notable exceptions obviously).

No doubt we'll see most of our business done this way then we'll drop a fee if there's a player available that we think fits the age profile and can make a substantive difference.

Loans and Free's will, in my opinion, be any early(ish) business we do. I think any transfer fee signings will come towards the end of the window, as the relevant (and figurative) dominoes fall.

Edit: Not spotted post 162 when I posted this.

I personally don’t give a fuck what gets said, I just wait until the window closes and judge how good or bad the window has been.

Owners, managers, agents and players are never going to be completely honest in the media.

Loans and frees (especially) are deals that get done early, these players are snapped up and then the pool is gone, you have a small window to operate in before these players are no longer viable.

Players demanding a fee will always demand a fee during this window. So it doesn’t matter when you start to put bids in. Selles has also got to see what he needs to bring in to suit his style, the signings so far have been for development and depth.

Maybe, just maybe, the Board and management team have decided it may not be wise to embark on negotiations with other clubs while boasting about just how much money they have to spend.

Bottom line is, the only way the owners will make any meaningful return from their investment, will be by getting the club back up tp the Prem and establishing it there for multiple seasons. If they don't do it this season with the benefit of a still sizeable parachute payment, it will be far more difficult and costlier for them to do so in future years. Therefore, while they had a gamble in Jan, they will have no choice but to spend again to equip Selles with a squad capable of achieving the first goal. It's very unlikely, bordering on almost impossible, that could be achieved with the current squad + a few free/cheap additions. The only possible way round it would be to secure the highest caliber loans, but they are risky and in all likelihood, expensive.

Of course , the other factor to consider is which current players Selles likes and which he'll sacrifice in order to build a squad capable of playing in his preferred style - I can't imagine it's anywhere close currently.

We did sign a defender but Wilder chose not to use him as he favoured Robinson, enough to trigger a contract extension. Thanks Chris 🖕
Signed on the last day he had 6 weeks to find one and a potential budget but we end up with potential, potential due to not playing a competitive game for 2 years
That’s incompetent

Agree the current squad isn't good enough for a serious promotion run outside of challenging for a playoff spot. I would expect high quality loans to be a key part of the strategy to get us a competitive squad, and a lot of those won't be available until the end of the window.

As much as the club wants promotion, the club are going to have to plan for a 2026/27 in the championship, large transfer payments (most are paid over a few years) and large wages aren't going to be able to sustained when revenue drops. High quality loans will impact this years budget while we still have parachutes, so it makes sense to allocate funds there for a promotion run this year, before switching to a lower budgets strategy the following year.

Cooper
Seriki, Ahmedhodzic, Bindon, Burrows
Davies, Peck, Hamer
Brooks, O'Hare
Campbell

Might be me but I don't think that's a bad platform to build a side around
A couple of permanent signings and a few loans and I think we have the makings of a decent side.

I don’t expect Anel to be here come start of the season

Some good players in that line up, but don’t forget injury issues with Seriki and Davies and Campbell and Hamer with fitness worries

On the plus side Blaster to come back

It’s a strong squad that does well not a strong 11

It would be a strange strategy in this “last chance saloon” season of final parachute payments to change the manager and then not back him go get us over the top.

It lacks experience, goals and match winners. If Hamer gets injured we’re really short on matchwinners.

It's almost as if we had a side that got 92 points last year
