Maybe I've just been a Blade too long but is there any one else out there like me, because underneath the happiness of our recent success I have a thick layer of impending doom ..
It's not about the players or the manager and his staff, it's about the owners and the board, and.with each success we have comes an underlying fear that some one some where is going to make that offer they can't refuse..
I like thousands of other Blades am loving whats happening but there is a side of me that keeps saying slow down Nigel, don't make too many waves, because we've been here before.
We've seen managers leave because promises of financial backing have not been kept amid claims of a lack of ambition by the board, or because their bast players have been sold out from under them.
We even had managers who have been successful leave because they've received better offers that our club couldn't or wouldn't match,
So while on the one hand I'm over the moon on the other I'm just waiting for the bubble to burst, again.
Am I on my own here ?.

I don't think Mr Clough was ever promised a war chest, so in that respect I can't see him leaving for that reason.

Iknow what you mean. I feel a little more optimistic this time, but summer will indicate what our future holds with regards to funding. Call it hope against hope but I get the feeling things could be different this time.

Football is cyclical. There are always ups and downs (unless you are Man Utd, Chelsea etc). The phases usally last about 5-7 years. We are just due to start an up phase. We will all be slitting our wrists again in around 2020.

I don't know why but this thread reminded me of the famous Steve Bruce story about Brian Clough...

"given the story Steve Bruce tells about going to the toilet during one function years ago and, mid-flow, taking an almighty whack to the back. Bruce ended up getting soaked in the urinals. "That, young man, is for all the times you kicked my Nigel," came that familiar nasal voice. "Now, carry on."

It's a new dawn with the new Blades and Nigel...

We're none of us that optimistic, pal!

;)

It is part of the fun isn't it? United have the potential to be a top ten premiership team and one day , maybe all the jigsaw pieces will come together and we will be there. I thought we had done it in 1973 and 2006, everyting seemed in place and then............a few years later we were in the third division.
Maybe next time? And maybe this time is the next time.?

I'd still rather be following United than be a ubiquitous armchair Chelsea or Man U fan or a team like say MK Dons without the tradition we have or fan base.

Why do you think Nigel will not stay. Look at his track record. Did he have pots of money at either Burton or Derby. He is here for the long haul. He doesn't walk away with a job half done. Have faith fellow blades, maybe the good times are just around the corner.

Although having watched them for the last 40 years I know where you're coming from.

I just wait and see now, got excited going into a season too many times for it only to turn to shit.
Would love to watch us go through a season and piss the league even if only league one, but something will happen to ensure it doesn't run quite as smooth as that. 'Tis the Blades way.

Even with your like of grammar or punctuation, you have a point.

You're not on your own, but you're also not about to bring an unexpected grim reaper to the party! Within reason, enjoy what we've got, then later let's see. Practice caution, but expect the unexpected.... I'm cliched out!

We've got a guy who has proved he is loyal unlike his opponent in the semi who still as a few weeks to fuck off and leave Hull in the shite.

I'm almost scared of looking like we are going to have some success as it usually means a fall is on the way. We epitomise one step forward .......... But hey ho if we don't lose at Wembley this time and get to the final ............
On the plus side, you never know COYRAWW

I can't help but harbour a deep down feeling of optimism.

It seems to be the case that the fortunes of the Blades always seem to perfectly contrast with the happenings in my life.

2005, 2006 and 2007 were very dark days for me and I never really got to enjoy our promotion to the Premier League. But when we went down to League One in 2011 I was in a pretty good place and didn't have a care in the world.

Now, as we we power on into 2014 I can slowly feel myself descending into oblivion again.
