Reading some of twitter replies from Birmingham fans so convinced they are going straight up, making some decent signings. The only 1 that seems strange is Beadle but he will probably have a better defence in front of him. It's going to be a tough league this year so we need players early rather than late like we usually do

Birmingham need to watch what they're doing , EFL will be watching their spending we've all seen what happens to teams who think they can buy promotion.

£10m if promoted would be a no brainer. Very disappointing if that's actually why we've missed out. Great signing for Birmingham
Really? If he was premier league quality he’d have played more for wolves. Great for the championship but doesn’t have the physical capabilities to excel at the top level.

I just don't think the owners understand the way things work??
We need players, yet there's nothing but links to nondescript youngsters from leagues in countries who football is of a lower level.
Getting a couple of defenders in should be priority, that could be seen before COH came in, I don't get why targets weren't lined up over the past 6mnths??

Real shame. Can see Birmingham signing McBurnie as well

If the reason we've not signed Doyle is a refusal to pay 10m AFTER PROMOTION, after spending 10m on Cannon before promotion, that is quite the piss take
Pay £10m for a player who wouldn’t be good enough if promoted? OK. Doyle is a top Championship player, nothing more. People are dazzled by the Man City background. And if he hadn’t been here on loan nobody would be losing their shit about not signing him.

It's over 3 seasons, isn't it?
Yes i think so.

They made a £25 mill loss in 2023, £15 mill loss in 2024 with a break even transfer spend. In 2025 their net transfer spend was approx £30 mill so the loss for that year, though not published yet could be £45 mill, so they are sailing close to the wind I would guess.

Doyle will do pretty well at Championship level, as we've seen first hand.

Having seen bits of him at Wolves, I think that he would not cut the mustard in the PL. Not quite strong enough, not quite quick enough, passing range is slightly short of required, etc.

Hypothetically speaking, if Brum get promoted and sign him on a perm, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they then bought another lad to take his spot.

I'm not getting edgy about our activity and don't think Brum have made incredible signings but I've had a vibe about them since the end of last season.

Wouldn't be at all surprised to see them do an Ipswich and what a few others have done, ourselves included.

Yeh they gamble, get promoted and take a points hit then stay in the money ie Forest. It’s the new football club success model

Excerpt below from the guy who is running them now:

“If our revenue progresses as we expect into next season, which is basically a certainty, we will be the highest revenue-generating club in the Championship ever not receiving parachute payments, and we will be on a par with those receiving parachute payments.

If we then progress one year further, and we’re fortunate enough to end up in the Premier League, we’ll be a mid-table club or better in total revenue, first year in.”

In reality I suspect there is some creative accounting going on somewhere but it sounds like they are going to have plenty of spending power regardless.

It's not that simple, the transfer fees are written off over the length of the player's contract or 6 years, whichever is shorter. Stansfield, for example, signed a 7 year contract when he joined so he will only cost Birmingham £2.5m this season as far as PSR is concerned.

I'm not sure he's big one that we've missed out on.

Birmingham have got a good player, but I'm not sure he's much more than a top-end Championship player.

True. I did say I guess they are sailing close to the wind. As I understand it you can make a £39 million loss over a three year period (with secure funding). If they made approx £15 mill loss (22/23) then £25 mill loss (23/24) then even accounting for depreciation and a net transfer spend of £30 million they would need to turn their general operating around substantially in 24/25 to comply, unless their are other exceptional profits they can muster up ala Villa (selling the womens team).

would have loved him at the lane but he is a similar midfielder to arblaster peck and davies so maybe selles is after a different type of midfielder for his high pressing game

I think the clubs with the celebrity owners are going to generate significant revenue from over the pond. Additionally Birmingham is a big city so they will fill their ground next season and their total sponsorship revenue will no doubt be significantly greater than ours with Delta Airlines and Coral sponsors of the team as well as UNDEFEATED being the main shirt sponsor, see below

Garry Cook, Chief Executive Officer at Birmingham City, said: "We are delighted to extend our partnership with UNDEFEATED. For the first time in the Club's history our shirts, are being repped on the streets of LA, New York and other leading cities across the US. This is a direct result of the relationship with UNDEFEATED.

They have also just appointed a Chief Commercial Officer New Revenue Streams who spent 30 years at Meta, Yahoo and Viacom and launched Instagrams international advertising business.

They are being run as a proper global sports team and it will be interesting to see whether our American owners adopt any new practises to increase revenue.

I thought it didn't apply below the Championship?

5 years max.

Midfield is probably the one area, along with goalkeeper, that is already equipped for a promotion side and we don't need to upgrade (obviously that could change when we sell half of em).

However the front line and defence need a lot of work, so it would be nice to start at least hearing some names being linked.

A no brainer not to do it you mean? £10m is a huge price for him given his current career trajectory.
You're looking at paying about £10m for a top end championship midfielder these days which I think he is and if we'd gone up it's not a big fee considering the money we'd earn. I think he could step up and play regular in the Premier League. If not we'd get about £5m back selling him anyway.
