I think I ( and by the looks of it most of the fanbase )
Have read between the lines and assumed we were going to keep the nucleus of the squad together and add maybe half a dozen quality additions in areas we were short last season

I'm getting the vibe now that with tge profile of player we are being linked with and the lack of activity with the dore training ground that we are entering a period of cloth cutting and targeting cheap young lower league players who I assume are scoring high data wise and will be seen as future assets

Listening to the ntt20 boys yesterday and they summed up perfectly their view on the owners who seem to have gone all in on this risky strategy at the wrong time when maybe sticking with what. We had might have been the safer bet

I was all for Wilder going and selles coming in ,hopefully the fitness levels improve and I think the squad is crying out for a coach to come in and take them to another level
But I think signings wise the highest profile player we are being linked with is Ashley Phillips and I think.all this talk of Barry, brooks ,doyle ect is just fans hoping, it doesnt look like they are the profile of player we are in for and I think that is a very all in strategy and makes me very nervous but excited

Well that's odd because I was raising my expectations for the coming season.
I respect everyone's opinion on here and just assumed I was wrong about the benefits of keeping Wilder in charge.
Plenty of learned experts on here have said the only reason we didn't go up was because of him, from the fitness regime, the negative tactics, being an embarrassing dick in his public celebrations, not getting a centre half in the January window, being a stuborn dinosaur and not embracing AI.
All of these things are easy fixes for the new manager so there's absolutely nothing stopping us being better than last season.

Mate we finished 3rd last year and potted the manager. Expectations are automatics for this year. Selles is employed to get us over the top as far as I’m concerned. He’ll get my support, but he’s employed to do a job - promotion.

Selles going over the top and he’s got Frank in the trench with him. Well, more like 20 miles behind the line a la Captain Darling.

That's my point though im not sure that is the target his employers have set him

Maybe a longer term trade up strategy is their aim but maybe this season isn't the best time to.do that

I think that’s wise.

Temper the expectations a little. Selles may well turn out well and I’m sure he’ll get support from the fans. But he has to have support from above to change the personnel to within the new budget (whatever that is) and bring his own players in

I see that he likes to develop players, especially younger players, he expects high intensity in training, so probably more of the same.

There have been a lot of changes, yet again, this summer. Seems we love summers of turmoil but there’s good experience in the squad as well so that will help.

Let’s see what personnel we get in and how the preseason friendlies go. But I think it’ll be a slow and patient start to this season…

We would have very reliably been top 3 or 4 if we'd just stuck with what we had and recruited predictably. But the hunger for change, any change, was just too hard to resist it seems and now absolutely anything could happen. The bar has been lowered considerably. We have a wider range of possibility - nothing down to mid table is off limits. We've simply gambled and nothing so far inspires confidence that it'll pay off

Give em a couple if weeks at least! New manager only met the players yesterday.

Not sure we have ever recruited predictably either...

I think we can guess with confidence which players Wilder would be in for. It's part of the reason many wanted him gone. Doesn't matter if they're good players, if they're predictable then we don't want them!

Chances are that we’re losing Souza and Hamer perhaps letting Wilder go is the perfect way to see in a new manager with new ideas. If the players want to go we can’t stop them if other teams meet certain criteria’s of the contracts or if the players just want to leave in general we are not in a position to hold them to ransom. In general unless we gain promotion our best players will be picked off by other clubs. I did notice that pundits have put about 7-8 clubs in front of us for promotion perhaps being an underdog would do us a favour.

Don’t know about Hamer, that certainly wasn’t what I heard after the inevitable play off defeat, but it was Souza and Anel that would be off

The problem with that though is wilder failed last season and would more than likely fail again
He will never have a better chance tgan the play off final where sunlan looked complete overawed by tte occasion until we basically invited them.back in by playing our slow and safe tactic of passing it backwards continually until they scored

Last summer our first signing (Shackleton) was on the 4th July, with a manager who already knew the current squad and what positions needed strengthening.

Selles has only just met the players yesterday and will need time to assess the squad, so we might end up missing a few targets at first (not that there has been much business already) but the better players might not be available until later in the window.

We'll just have to wait and see.

I think he might have been sacked by November but would have put us on course for promotion with the signings he'd make if allowed to do so

Also just as possible that we'd carry on as last season, maybe uninspiring but picking up enough points to be safely top 2 in a division without 2 outstanding teams like Leeds and Burnley

I’d be fine with that if we can improve. They probably would’ve gone if we went up.

Yeah but can only speak for myself and I. Just couldn't stand another season of that
Everyone would be waiting for the sky to fall in

Only 5 times in 26 seasons (since 99/00) has a team won automatic promotion from the Championship scoring 63 goals or less (how many United scored in 24/25).

There needed to be a real rework in how we play and nothing from last season made me think Wilder was the person to do that. Despite spending money in January, the team scored less in the 2nd half of the season

Sometimes I can’t fathom Unitedites. He’s got arguably the best platform to build on as a manager since Bryan Robson.
If Hamer stays, the goal has to be to get promoted, and to have a proper go at it. Otherwise you sell him now
