I would prefer us not to go back to lesser teams for lesser players than we have, we need to improve. We should only cherry pick anybody outstanding. That could also contribute to us not signing his old players 🙂
So, by that measure, we shouldn't have gone to Plymouth for Cooper? Or gone to Peterborough for Burrows?

What's your definition of "outstanding players"?

No, ideally we get to a point where we buy Premier League, or top European players.

I never said we shouldn't i said i would PREFER not to. But for whatever reason you ignored that to make a point......

I want United in a position where we compete for the best players around not bargains anymore unless we identify a quality option. It's that ok?

Or is bargain basement 1 out of 5 buys working remains our future?

So you think no centre half for a worse side is better than anel or robbo?

We're not in a position to buy established premier league players.

Begin the thawing of Andy Morrison. A proper player, proper captain and all round bad guy.

Well, we aren't at that point right now, so we will be buying players from sources that you seemingly deem undesirable.

I didn't ignore it. The way you worded it, it sounded like you think buying players from teams that are 'smaller" than us, is beneath us. Which seems odd to me. With that thinking, maybe Spurs never sign Dele Alli. As they are at a point where they could solely look at "Premier League, or top European players", 2 things which Dele was not at the time they signed him.

I'm pretty sure we already compete for some of the best players we are able to attract. Didn't we beat multiple clubs to sign O'Hare for example?

But what's wrong with bargains? If we didn't look at cheap options, we'd never have signed Duffy, Fleck, Didzy, or more recently, Ty Campbell.

If we spend £3m on five players over the course of their contracts and sell one of them for £20m each time, is this something we shouldn't be doing?

I think this type of thing will be my first test of faith in Selles. Do any of his old players want to play with him again, like Hughes and Alzate.
Aye
Albeit when Wilder was (apparently) interested in his (our) “old players” & ‘targets’ (some) folk on here were little short of apoplectic whilst others clamour for the return of former ‘heroes’ (Walker, Brooks, McBurnie [?!?]
Selles has got enough on his plate without applying subjective (bollocks) ‘metrics’ to evaluate & place “faith” in his capabilities.
Let’s see who he signs/sells & how we perform with(out) them on the field - the only real relevant test

With Hull being in the same devision he will know a lot about us
especially since we were successful
although falling at the last hurdle.
The thought of us having a high energy squad gives us something we have lacked. Some players may find it beyond them! We shall see !

I'm not one for looting the corpse of a club in trouble, but one of the best CB and one of the best DM in the league (who both played under Selles) are ripe for the picking.
On one hand good think that.

But on the other if they can only sign players for free now, you could argue keeping their better players becomes even more imperative.

Sure, but on the other hand, the reason they're in this situation is they're asset rich but cash poor. They need the cold, hard money to service their debts. Can't pay off the ballifs with footballers.

They might not cash in on everyone, but they'll 100% be open to some negotiations.

How many hands we up to now? 🤣

Don't remember Hull City being so ethical about raiding other clubs further down the financial pyramid when under Fatboy Bruce they took Harry Maguire off of us for a pittance. They even gave us a take it or leave it offer and then threatened to pull out of the deal for £2m. We were that hard up at the time that McCabe went back to them begging for them to do the deal. They had our (or McCabes to be truthful) pants down.

I would enjoy us turning the table and picking off their better players for a pittance. What goes around....
