It all depends on what he got to work with. He might have only been given a low budget and the strikers were the best he could do with the money he was given. I imagine that won't be as much of an issue here.

it seems to me his talent spotting & value for money has been quite poor. 4m on a striker from austria scored 2 in 1st 2. never scored again in the next 24 games & was shipped out back to austria after 6 months. & 4m on scott twine that never delivered either. 8m is quite alot of money for bristol city to be shelling to not get the results

Taylor would be the obvious choice as our first DoF, having already been the board's "football guy" and worked with both sides of the recruitment team. Not necessarily as a long-term appointment, but to take the lead along with Bettis in establishing the new ways of working.

Supposedly he is the man making the decisions in regards to the football players/staff part of the business so makes sense for him to take the role. He made his son first team scout last year but think it’s too early for him to try and promote him into the DOF role just yet

Seriously though, for some clubs "modernising" means moving away from a DoF model, shows how far we still have to go.
