For different reasons these guys will no longer be with Sheff Utd as things stand, I tweeted a polite reminder to that neat guy Jim Phipps about it but yet to respond. Has anything been announced/hinted at?

Howard and Flynn will sign new contracts, can see Brayford being transfer listed hopefully we can make a good bid :( Harris I think will already have a deal in place for him to come here. If Liverpool didn't want to let Coady go permanently I'd like to see a season long loan or a buy back deal with an expiry date on it, seems to be popular in foreign leagues

Clough's said that United has an option to extend Flynn's contract by a year but I'd be amazed if we didn't try and sign him to a longer deal.

I would have thought that Howard and Harris will get offered a extensions in the summer: Howard 1 year, Harris 2+1.

We'll pull out all the stops to sign Brayford but I'd be surprised if he joined us; I think he'll get an offer from a Championship play-off hopeful and it'll depend on which club it is.

Coady I think still holds out dreams of making it at Liverpool but given the depth they've got in central midfield I think he'll rejoin us on loan for the season.

Other players whose contracts are up are Kennedy (extended, particularly if we think Maguire will leave) and Porter (unsure; can see him being retained as back up).

Slightly off-topic but can someone explain the "option to extend for another year" clause in contracts? Does it mean the club can hold the player to it? Genuine question.

Works both ways but yes, basically Flynn is contracted to United to the end of next season but we could choose to let him go at the end of this season. The contract will probably include details of compensation due to Flynn if we do take up that option (ie a signing on fee) but the decision rests with the club.

The odd one was Danny Higginbotham who appeared to have the option to extend (rather than United). Fair play to him (and his advisors) for negotiating that, he got himself a large pay off when he left for Chester but I hope that whoever negotiated it on United's part got a thorough bollocking.

Gotcha, cheers. So we should be saying we've got him til next year but we can bin him off if we like. I can see why they say it the other way!

Isn't the clause sometimes a case of "if player X plays Y games over the season he gets another year"? Sure someone said this was the case in some situations where players are on short term deals.

That's another form of contract extension. The option in Flynn's contract is likely to be a "Yes/No" one but the type you mention is common, particularly for older or more injury prone players. I think Ledley King's Tottenham contract was basically a rolling one year deal extended if he played 10 games a year.

Cardiff paid £1.5m in July 2013 and Brayford's contract lasts until July 2017.

Whilst there's a lot of bonding going on between Brayford and the United players and our fans, I just can't see how we can do a deal which satisfies Cardiff for the transfer fee and fits into FFP considerations in our budget. Mind you we'll make a lot of money from this Cup run and there might even be European football in the mix.

Brayford himself is becoming a cult figure, I'm already growing my beard for Wembley, but logic says he can do better for himself. Whether the enjoyment of working with Clough and the love affair with our fans, plus confidence the club is going places, can entice him, who knows?

Added to all that, Solsjkar must be watching the lad on T.V. and wondering how on earth they loaned him out. He might well fancy him for next year, particularly if they are in the Championship.

I think Solskjaer would like to keep Brayford but Vincent Tan doesnt want him

Clough said a few weeks ago that he was confident of Flynn staying. We will take up the extra year i think.
Coady - Will sign for another loan i think. I dont think his contract is due up this year & i think Liverpool will want to send him back out on loan. Weather that would be to us or a club in the Championship is the question.
Brayford - Will either join back with us or a higher Championship side. He will have no shortage of takers now.
Harris - will probably get 2 years
Howard id imagine will sign for another 1 possibly 2

Better get Clough on the phone and tell him. He probably isn't aware of any of this

What happened to you, man?

Didn't you spit your dummy out on numerous other threads because of sarcastic replies to your posts? At least theirs were funny!

Right ok.

Conor Coady is still under contract at Liverpool and we could probably get him back in on another season loan. If we get promoted we may have a slight chance of signing him permanently.

John Brayford has already said he loves it here but it's out of his hands. I feel if Cardiff get relegated, he will stay and play there as they won't be able to hold onto Fabio.

Bob Harris will sign.

Ryan Flynn we/he have/has the option of next season extension/termination. He will stay.

Mark Howard given his current form, i'm sure we will offer him a contract.

The other Harris... Sorry, we're not doing sarcasm are we?

In summary - Harris, Flynn & Howard will be here next season. Brayford "could be" if we get promoted. Coady "could be" brought back on a season's loan.

if Cardiff get relegated and we get promoted then the beard is in the same league either way?? ;)

Harris - will probably get 2 years - Why, what misdemeanour has he perpetrated

Yes but would they be willing to sell both? They have McNaughton & Connolly too in that position but given the amount paid for Brayford and his form for us, i don't think they'll want to part. IMO he's better than McNaughton & Connolly.

Can see Coady going to a Championship side next season. I'm not sure what value we could offer in terms of him continuing his footballing education at the same level.

If we manage the unthinkable and get in Europe though...

Maybe that's the model we've been following over the years - released for good behaviour half way through their term.

Let's say we did get into Europe, I doubt we'd even get past the first round.

In the Europa League? It's straight into groups aint it? Regardless, it would still give us some extra cache in terms of transfers.

Wont the wage cap come into this some where ?
And the way the lads have been playing this year I would also expect a few wage adjustments will be expected.
What ever happens I don't doubt for a minute that NC will cope ..

But,we desperately need that promotion to move us on...

Let's all pray .;)

Cache as in ammunition? Or do you mean cash or cachet? :)
