I know it's a bit of an old chestnut, but the question of reaching the play-offs apart, how remarkable has our change in fortunes been since losing to Crewe? With success has come what you'd expect from our supporters, a more unified sense of optimism, praise replacing criticism, and a feeling that we've got a real chance to put this club we love back on the map. It's saddened me the way we've been unable to halt our decline over the years. Yes, decline, a horrible word but one that's completely appropriate for the mess we found ourselves in at the beginning of the season.
I know it's been commented on many times before, but in a short space of time Nigel Clough has somehow managed to instil discipline into our players. What's followed has been a growing belief that we are capable of winning where once we seemed to drop our heads and give a victory away. Not anymore we don't! Considering that this is still a team that's in development, Clough has achieved remarkable success. Even if the cup run hadn't happened this sense of optimism would have been a sign of great things to come, but what's been achieved in the cup is nothing short of sensational. Watching players I'd given up on turn their careers around is as pleasing as seeing new players brought in. We also have a goalkeeper who looks the business, so lots of questions answered in so few months.
Still more to come though, so hang on to your seats ladies and gentlemen, this season's a long way from over, so spills and thrills, ooh's and ahh's, heart's skipping a beat, you just know that all of this is guaranteed in the next couple of months.
I'm not going to talk about promotion, that seems just a bit too much like tempting fate, and after all, it's just not possible for a Division1 club to beat a promotion chasing side from the Championship, plus two Premiership teams, and beat them well, is it?
We've been underdogs every step of the way, yet we've heroically faced the challenge and given as good as we've got, and then added that little bit of fairy dust and done the impossible. We are something special, so don't let anybody tell you otherwise. Chest's out, we've got our club back, we've finally got something to be happy about....well done all you supporter's for sticking with the Blades, and well done United for appointing Mr Miracle, Nigel Clough.....what a manager! UTB!!!
