I know it's a bit of an old chestnut, but the question of reaching the play-offs apart, how remarkable has our change in fortunes been since losing to Crewe? With success has come what you'd expect from our supporters, a more unified sense of optimism, praise replacing criticism, and a feeling that we've got a real chance to put this club we love back on the map. It's saddened me the way we've been unable to halt our decline over the years. Yes, decline, a horrible word but one that's completely appropriate for the mess we found ourselves in at the beginning of the season.

I know it's been commented on many times before, but in a short space of time Nigel Clough has somehow managed to instil discipline into our players. What's followed has been a growing belief that we are capable of winning where once we seemed to drop our heads and give a victory away. Not anymore we don't! Considering that this is still a team that's in development, Clough has achieved remarkable success. Even if the cup run hadn't happened this sense of optimism would have been a sign of great things to come, but what's been achieved in the cup is nothing short of sensational. Watching players I'd given up on turn their careers around is as pleasing as seeing new players brought in. We also have a goalkeeper who looks the business, so lots of questions answered in so few months.

Still more to come though, so hang on to your seats ladies and gentlemen, this season's a long way from over, so spills and thrills, ooh's and ahh's, heart's skipping a beat, you just know that all of this is guaranteed in the next couple of months.
I'm not going to talk about promotion, that seems just a bit too much like tempting fate, and after all, it's just not possible for a Division1 club to beat a promotion chasing side from the Championship, plus two Premiership teams, and beat them well, is it?

We've been underdogs every step of the way, yet we've heroically faced the challenge and given as good as we've got, and then added that little bit of fairy dust and done the impossible. We are something special, so don't let anybody tell you otherwise. Chest's out, we've got our club back, we've finally got something to be happy about....well done all you supporter's for sticking with the Blades, and well done United for appointing Mr Miracle, Nigel Clough.....what a manager! UTB!!!

I remember the feeling after lookin at the score when we lost to Crewe, it was disbelief. I mean, 3-0, to Crewe?!! I geniunely couldnt see us turning things around then and like many on here thought we were certs for relegation. How wrong was i?!

Nigel has done superbly well, and long may it continue UTB!

I'll comment on how this seasons turned out when it's over, until then the best I can say is its a work in progress, things are looking up and Nigel has given me my football mojo back for one.

An I feel Ggggoooooooooooooooodddddddd na na na an na, just like I knew I wood na na na na na

Wilson Picket bring it on na na na na na

I felt at the time that Crewe was a blip given the recovery shown since the first half at Coventry.

haven't been to a game in a couple of months and so i have some perspective on the upturn in fortunes which is quite frankly remarkable.. flynn seems a foot taller and a stone heavier and has stopped falling down.. murphy is running past players for fun. the defence and keeper look solid.. coady has come on an absolute bomb, now looks like a mini steve gerrard.. wtf happened with Porter?? he used to get booed on!
tactically the most noticable thing was that the players are talking to each other and now players first instinct is to run with the ball and attack space.. not pass it around like a grenade with no pin
the main thing is the buzz is back.. ok with DW we were winning but we never really had the buzz. we haven't really had it since Colin was here
astonishing transformation

Here is the league table the game before Clough took charge following a defeat to Coventry (13th October 2013)

13th October.png

If sombody told me we would be in the FA Cup semi and be 7th in the league (if we win both our games in hand), i'd have told them to get their head seen to.

What a fantastic turnaround.

Interestingly Peterborough have only accumulated 24pts since then (1.09pts per game). Whereas we've got 39 (1.77 ppg)

If Peterborough continue to get 1.07 for their final 12 games they would get 66.84 pts.

If we maintained 1.77 we would get 67.01 pts. ;)

Your good run is about to come to a shuddering halt at the hands of a certain Mr Grayson and his LILLYWHITE SLEEPING GIANTS.

I only post this so you can mentally prepare yourselves for the crushing defeat you will enevitably suffer at the home of english football.

Is this game on TV?

I stand to be corrected on this, but I'm fairly certain it was James Brown, or am I missing a subtle point?

More like comatose! When did these giants last pull in 30,000? I bet The late, great Sir Tom was playing.

Glad you're looking forward to it, it's also going to be a shame if we lost to Carlisle on wednesday and you don't get to end anything.

Anyway, our game at Preston is, in my opinion, a game where I hope none of our players get injured/suspended for the semi final in 5 weeks time.

But there's always next year to look forward to a match at 'the home of English football', as Blades fans do every time the fixtures are announced.

On the first point, yes, it was James Brown, as for the second, and tonight's quiz question, and this includes you Blade56 , it was certainly Mr Pickett who had a global hit with this song, but for nil pois, who originally recorded this song? Answers on a postcard please.

Was it Two ton Tessy O'Shae. ?

(I have now looked it up, I have never heard of her, nor does that surprise me, I'm fairly knowledgeable about music but this isn't really my thang) No peas for me then, I remain full of beans though.

I can imagine who you may have thought recorded this song, but no mushy peas unless I get an answer UTB

Well I'd just be quoting wikipaedia, it says Yvonne Fair? I know its nothing like Cole's sort of music but you do get radical arrangements of songs which succeed where their precursor failed, for instance 'Roll Over Beethoven' was actually based on a long forgotten tune by some German bloke called '5th Symphony'. So obscure he didn't even give it a name, just a number?
