The loser mentality at this club

This isn't a dig at anyone at the club but consider that:

- We haven't won a trophy in 100 years

- We've lost in 10 play-off attempts

- We are the largest club in Europe to have never qualified to play in any European competition.

- We are continuously adversely affected by ridiculous situations (COVID, Tevez, Evans, Segers etc.)

- We continuously bottle the big games.

There's something very wrong with our club in this regard, is there anything that can be done to change it?
How is any of that "loser mentality"?

We're cursed, almost definitely.

It’s the only thing that makes sense, and is the one constant across all the play off failures. Different players, managers etc but the same fans. Maybe the quiet negative “it’s happening again” vibe impacts the players?
Sunderland were massively lifted for there second, we couldn't lift our team

This is my record as a blade (born not made!)
10 playoff rounds lost
5 x finals
4 x semi finals
1 x relegation final

7 cup semi finals lost
(0 finals since 1936 /win 1925)
5 x fa cup semi
2 x league cup semi

I wax at all of them including the games that cost us relegation way back to Walsall at home and our relegation to Division 4
(Don who?)

We always bottle the big one off games
But I do remember some good times - Leicester away 5-2 being my all time favourite

It’s tough - I’ll always be a Blade - this club doesn’t know how lucky it is to have these diehard fans - about time it rewarded them a bit more often.
I’m gutted but still can’t rationalise why I wanted us to get promoted today when all I fear next season would be more misery in PL.
Not only you mate. UP THE F,FIN Blades

Why can't we do a large mendoca and go mental with passion and lift our team? We can't and we go negative and I belive this feeds players mentality.. But ignore me and blame wilder and players every time..

Hey maybe you need me? I have some pieces of the true Cross, some bone fragments of John the Baptist, and 3 teeth from St Paul.

For a generous fee I could bury them around BL, and hey presto the curse would disappear.

Surely anything is worth a try?

Our fans were flat as always at Wembley but it's not mainly a fans issue

That stadium is uniquely stifling. It's unlike any I've ever been to. You feel like you're just shouting into the ether and wasting your all effort

The national football stadium isn't designed for football. It is absolutely dreadful

Millennium stadium pisses all over wembley for atmosphere

How come it was flat.

First 45 minutes it sounded great.

Sunderland were shite and we went in 1-0.

2nd half we started as though we didn’t want to take it to them.
Maybe that’s when the fans went flat.

I saw this defeat coming and when they levelled I said that’s it we’ve lost this. What was it 77 mins. I bet majority of fans felt this as well.

Play dictates fans response.

Reaction from the fans said a lot today, we concede a goal and we get quiet and it's not the first time this season where that has happened.

Atmosphere at the lane has been poor most of the season, which changed thanks to that fan advisory board and those blades on Facebook doing something to improve the atmosphere against Bristol City.

Of course our fans are going to be quieter when it comes to play off finals. Many are scarrred by our constant play off failures. What do people expect. If you got jilted at the altar nine times you’d probably be a bit quiet before your tenth wedding. Plus the football has barely done much to get bums off seats this year. Nobody gets pumped by Peck passing it back to Anel and Anel passing it back to Cooper for 90 mins every week.

Think we’re first team in like 29 years to lose a PO final after been up @ HT. first team not to go up having been top at xmas in a long time. Ultimately except Sunlun @ home which we were fortunate, we’ve been poor all season in big games.

Need a big look at this in the summer to get more character and fitness I think.
Totally agree on the fitness the game is 100 minutes these days we need players who can perform for that duration this 60 70 mins max from some of the players isn't the mentality you want

Not going to happen when you have a little fat lad in midfield who eats and drinks. A tiny little lad in o hare who didn’t even touch the ball. BBD looked injured all season. Campbell never played a 90 in his career. Complete lack of athleticism or stature. The game is going in the opposite direction to us, athletes to the fore, but for some fuckwitted reason we think we know better

Nonsense. Sunderland got massively lucky that Ahmedhodzic was off the pitch and we didn’t adjust properly. Nothing to do with their fans singing.

Wembley’s lower tier is too shallow and too far from the pitch for any chance of a decent atmosphere.

Whilst I’m happy that folk are trying to do something, I think it was far more about what we were doing on the pitch and the “buffer” than anything else.

Not having a go at you- if this was a one-off I could believe it but considering the history laid out in the OP there's something more rotten imho.

Champions win games in adverse situations with 10 men, we didn't.

As silly as this sounds late at night after a rough day I think someone at the club should look back historically and literally ask:

1. Simonsen about his penalty miss vs Huddersfield
2. Stead when he hit the post vs Wigan
3. Jags when he did the handball vs Wigan

etc. etc.

And interview prominent members of previous squads and ask their opinion why we didn't go over the line.

There may be a pattern and things we can learn. Is it the way we are set up? The training pitch? The management? The fans? The club culture? The staff? The owners? The lifestyle in Sheffield? Our medical department?

No issue/question should be considered off-limits. I'm not saying we will find out the answer but its certainly reached a stage we have to ask questions beyond attributing it to bad luck.

This is where professional sports people - players and managers - earn their place in history.

We place far too much stock in a connection to the club as a beneficial factor which is allowed to blind us to clear weaknesses.

We’re a very bladey blade club. As soon as we break the bladiness we will win something.

Wilder needs to go.

We need to focus on getting Cat1 academy.

We need to get promoted next season with a complete different identity.

A fresh one.
No way we'd be able to do another rebuild and get promoted.you need 2 seasons. Wilder and co new the club back to front and the players.

I think you might be onto something there.

Why did Peck and Robinson play instead of Davies and Holding?

The latter two have won trophies and played in European competitions for top tier football clubs.

Looking back Micky Adams was appointed because he was a Blade= utter disaster.

Though even when we had Slav, an outsider with great pedigree in this league things fell flat. Same with Weir (though he didn't have managerial experience).

Webber v Wigan . Valid point though.
