Should complete his signing to us this week according to 'claimer' on BM. Midfielder from Derby.

Gets snippets now and then, so could be somat in it

Better than what we got?
Yes.
Still playing a fair bit for Derby mind..though they have brought a loan in...could happen, he's getting on a bit and could be looking for a contract next season...help us stay up=earn contract?

It's a yes from me.

Don't know Davies Esa, but I'm trusting Cloughie's choices. He'll want players he can rely on, and he'll know what he wants to make us stronger and better.

According to Wikipedia, he's only played 4 times for Derby this season.
Out of contract in the Summer so we could loan with a view to signing him permanently.
It sounds fairly feasible to me.
Yet another diminutive midfield playmaker to compete with Scougall and Baxter though.

Radio sheffield just said we've signed him. I'll admit to not knowing too much about him but a few derby mates say it's a good signing at this level

Signed according to Shields on twitter.

Attacking midfielder according to RS

Who will he replace?

Who would have thought the squad would give me another scratch my arse with a puzzled look moment this season.

Well done Nigel

Just to point out, he didn't play for Derby in the FA Cup this season, and considering they aren't in it anymore, one would assume he is eligible to play in the FA Cup for us?

never heard of him was interested to see which Davies when his name appeared on the team sheet today. Hopefully he can turn out to be a great signing,

He's 32 but a former club captain for Clough. When I read that I thought Doyle might be on his way, but maybe not. At that age it looks like he's just a stopgap until the end of the season.

He's been bought for those ever more frequent occasions when Doyle is suspended....

Very quiet on his signing from Derby.
Not heard much about him personally.

Anyone any opinions?

Well NC likes him,and says he can cover on the wings or at full back.
And any friend of Nigel is a friend of mine....:)

I can only report what Clough said on the radio. He can play either side, fullback at a push, and is here because we only have Flynn and Murphy on the wings. Presumably that means cheerio to McFadzean.

Set piece specialist, experienced, and knows exactly what Clough wants without any hand-holding.

Now being said it could be turned into a permenant signing. Does that mean Doyle could be off at the end of the season?

I've been canvassing opinion of Ben Davies on Twitter (@TopBoyBlade) from Derby fans. Here's a selection of what we can expect from him;

"Cracking at set pieces"
"Nothing"
"He's good at free kicks and corners, causes panic in the box with his whipped in deliveries"
"He plays wide, won't beat a player for pace but delivers a great cross"
"Doesn't go missing, a real grafter, not the quickest but specialises in free kicks / corners"
"He'll work his nuts off, good set piece delivery, decent bloke"

He'll do for me! :D

I expect he will replace Flynn in the first-choice starting line up. Flynn's been doing well recently but Davies still sounds like an improvement. Especially in terms of crossing and set piece delivery.

Reading Derby fans comments on him, they see him as a Andy Reid type of player. I think that's exactly what we are missing someone in the middle that's always available, gets the ball and does the easy thing. But we don't really play that type of formation do we, Derby fans seem positive on him though.
