If he says we are on 2 points more than we actually are one more time I'm going to scream, I love wilder but Jesus Christ, let it go
Been saying the same all season. Let it go.

Can't remember which manager said ' give a footballer an excuse and he'll usually take it.' Think it was a good one.

Whilst many previous pre-match pressers have seen our Chris shower the opposition and manager with praise (huge respect, fabulous manager, got a lot of time for them, etc.), in this one he simply says, "I see their manager has come out with some absolute nonsense about all the pressure being on us"! Or words to that effect.
Good! I hope CW has the players wound up for this one - let's see 🤞

Will it be from Plymouth or BL?

Wouldn’t think they’d travel day before for that distance.. unless they fly to Newquay
They used to fly from Donny when it was open. Now, it's probably not worth the hassle getting to Leeds, Manc or EMids.

Not sure if Retford Airport could be used for larger planes.

You just know that if we fail to get automatic promotion it will be by less than 2 points and you also just know who will never shut up about it.

Starting the season -2 points is bad but we dealt with it getting a win in our opening match of the season. We have chucked more than two points away during the season so far by not beating our main promotion rivals or even drawing against them. Throw in we were 2-0 up at home and cruising against QPR only to chuck it away. That -2 is insignificant in comparison and you are right he needs to wind his neck in about it.

Certainly the beginning of the end all of this. All the hallmarks of the previous meltdown, zero accountability for the possibility he got something wrong.

“If we play as we did against against Millwall we’ll win the game in my opinion”.

Wow.

And Newquay is an hour away pointless really

Decent money to be made on a Plymouth, Leeds and Burnley wins tonight and tomorrow.
Tough gig for the Blades going to Burnley for their promotion party.

Nice place to go for a meal, though! 😋

Both managers admitting it’s a must win game for their respective sides

Will post full PA presser when they put it on YouTube

The performance against Millwall was no worse than the performances in 15-20 of the games we've won this season.
This really riles me...

No, no we didn't.

If we'd done enough to win, we'd have won, it's that simple.

It's like when people go on about possession stats, Xgs, and all that - until the football authorities start awarding points for other things, the only thing that matters, at the final whistle, is how many times the ball's gone in the two nets at either end of the pitch.

Millwall put the ball in our net once, while we failed to put the ball in theirs at all, therefore they 'did enough to win' and got the three points, whilst we 'did enough to lose' and got nothing. That's how the game works.

Data gives you a way of analyzing a performance that's separate from the subjective/emotional response to a result. I seriously doubt you really think assessing the performance is irrelevant.

Would you really say there's no difference between a 0-1 where you have 25 shots, create loads of good chances, but just can't find the net vs. a 0-1 where you're under the cosh all game, can't get out of your own half, and barely have a shot? The points (0) are the same but it makes a big difference in terms of what the manager might want to do for the next match.

Of course I would say assessing the performance is relevant, and of course there's a difference between the two types of 1-0 you describe. The point is, that in assessing any performance, you have to carry out the assessment by analysing all the facts as they happened, not as you would like them to have happened.

I absolutely agree with you that you have to take into account all data; and the most important piece of data, when analysing a football match, isn't whether you think you should have won, it's whether you actually did win, or drew or lost.

What concerns me with the statement 'we did enough to win', after a loss, is that any manager who thinks this, risks ignoring the most vital piece of data there is - the outcome of the match. If CW thinks we did enough to win, that suggests he's not looking to improve on what we did. And we need to improve on it, because - and I know I'm repeating myself, here - we lost!

I find it concerning that Wilder believes that our performance against Millwall was a positive reaction to the Oxford loss.
The performance on Tuesday was not a good one in anyway shape or form..
Blatant self vindication attempt from Wilder. "My decision to play the same team didn't backfire, honest"

Try holding your hand up for once and saying your playing players out of position. And stop blaming the fans who spent maybe a few hundred quid going to oxford to support the team and was righty disappointed with the effort .Then the next game blaming the ref grow some balls wilder
Which players were out of position (other than Holding in injury time as a make shift centre forward)?

The most important piece of data for determining the league table is whether you won or lost. I don't think it's necessarily the most important piece of data for deciding whether you've played well or poorly, whether you need to pick a different XI next time out, or whether the formation and tactics need a tweak.

Let me stand this on its head for a minute: for me, the issue over the last two games was not that we lost by playing worse than we have the rest of the season. I honestly don't think we performed any differently than we did in 20 games we've won--and I think the stats would back me up on that.

And that's the problem. Data-wise, we've been pushing our luck all season--creating just about enough to win very even games, often being bailed out by a keeper who saves more than the stats say he should and a couple of players who outperform their xG in front of goal (Hamer and Campbell). We just haven't been very dominant, haven't been a very potent attacking force, and it feels to me that it has caught up with us this week.

Personally I thought we looked more dangerous against Millwall than we have in plenty of games where we got three points, certainly second half. That's not saying a huge amount, mind you. But for me the worrying part is not that we lost, it's that the performances were so similar to what we've been serving up all season.

I don’t know if there’s an obligation to do pressers every week, but if given the option, he’d be better off scrapping it this week and just let the talking be done on the pitch.
Talks a good talk but it’s only happened like it should in 2 games Coventry and Middlesbrough. Love to see 5 attacking gutsy performances to finish season

He's overplayed that particular card. It's tiresome and typical of his stubbornness and how thin skinned he is. Particularly as the deduction was thanks to his mates, the owner and CEO.
Someone telling the truth how it is and how it's been. No one can argue built a good squad and got into a good position, but the 2 point was always going to be an obstacle and the January window turned out average as in performances no real upgrades in quality be shown 2 good real performance as in boro ,coventry that's about it other results just scrapped narrow wins

Don’t underestimate his ability to think ahead for a narrative

He’s the one who’s made sure we all remember the -2 all season. If we fall short by a point or GD, and go out in the playoffs, he has the ability to say

“The players and staff did enough. We did enough to get automatically promoted, but we came unstuck due to something out of our hands”

I disagree. We had enough chances to win it. But I suppose one of the great thing about football is opinions. Although some of the posters on here have really weird opinions

They also had enough chances to win 3-0
