Is that what you think we actually do down here? 😅🙌🏽
Yes, when you're not too busy voting against against a constitutional referendum to establish an indiginous advisory body to government but I was trying to keep it light hearted sport 😉

Right - lets take a look

Matchday 39 - We play Friday, Burnley and Leeds play Saturday
Matchday 40 - Burnley and Leeds play 12:30, we play at 3pm
Matchday 41- We play at the same time as Burnley, Leeds kick off 15 mins later at 8pm
Matchday 42- Burnley play Friday We play at the same time as Leeds
Matchday 43- Burnley play 15:00 We play at 17:30, Leeds play at 20:00
Matchday 44 - Leeds play @ 15:00 - we play Burnley @ 17:30
Matchday 45 - TBC (Leeds play Bristol C, we play at Stoke, Burnley play at QPR)
Matchday 46 - Everyone plays at the same time

So:
  • Burnley play before us 3 times, we play before Burnley 1 time
  • Leeds play before us 2 times, we play before Leeds 2 times (and kick off 15 mins before them once)

As others have said - it can work both ways. Playing first is an advantage if you win - if you don`t then the other team have a real opportunity.
The big one in that is Leeds playing before us and Burnley play each other. If circumstances fall in the right way a draw could promote both teams. Disgrace of Turf Moor anyone?

I think we can definitely moan about that as Sheffield United fans, probably more than anything else in football.

It's made it much harder for us to break in to the top division, let alone win anything.

Without Sky's money, English football would be a far better place for everyone except "the top 6".
The conundrum being Sky moves games to peak viewing times due to the attraction of the atmosphere created by full stadiums and what is at stake. However, season ticket holders and tourists, plan their days months in advance and so any time changes risks non attendance. Thus, empty seats are broadcast to the world and so weaken it's atmosphere!

Stadiums have improved but it's not due to Sky Sports money, at least not directly. It's due to owner investment and the post Hillsborough disaster fall out mandating it. Liverpool FC have built two new stands, but they were owner funded. They are losing money (around 90m per last accounts) as it's all going to the footballers. Man United are purportedly building a new stadium a billion pounds + in debt. It isn't Sky money paying for it as that doesn't even cover their football commitments. Almost all the new stadia and stands are owner funded. The additional money that is then made goes straight in the football staff's sky rocket - alongside the TV money. This is the same with Champions League etc revenue. All the major developments in the McCabe era weren't due to Sky money iirc.

It's maybe feasible. You go up, you spend nothing (besides the bonuses and contracted wage rises) and you have, what, 50 million towards a new stand? I guess we did that to a lesser extent with the new academy land and buying back the Lane footprint.

Something that has become obvious is that owner losses (for anything) are now calculated in the potential future resale value of the club - this is the potential source of profit for an owner, accessible only when it's sold . FSG bought Liverpool for circa 300 million. They've built a new training ground and developed two stands. The club has debt they're carrying themselves or the club is servicing. The club valuation in that time has increased by up to 20 x despite the business not being particularly profitable. They've sold small stakes in Red Bird (the company that holds various sports clubs including LFC) for sums that make the 300 million initial purchase look a bargain. The Glazer's and other shareholders sold 28.8% of Man Utd for 1.3 billion plus 250 million in guaranteed investment in Man United, this despite the shit show there. SUFC sold for circa 100 million with no guarantee of post parachute payment Prem TV money. The value of football clubs has increased exponentially. This has happened in the Sky era and I'd suggest informed decisions to develop stadia despite the bottom line
Don’t know if this is all true but a good read - ta

Here's hoping we get the opportunity to replicate Germany v Austria in 1980.

"You have the ball"

"No, you have the ball"

"Please have the ball, I insist"

"Would you like a throw in"

"Oh go on then"

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Many knuckles will be dragged, all across West Yorkshire. A few more than normal.

Hope we can play out a draw 0-0 of course, Burnley will insist on that, and watch Leeds contemplate the play offs.

Lack of recovery time for us between Burnley and Stoke! Leeds have 3 extra days!

Leeds have less before final game.

Its the same for Stoke though.

The fact is the Burnley and Leeds games might be irrelevant if we win and go more than 6 points ahead. There's a value in going first.

(I still think promotion and the title will go to the final day)

The next 4 games are a lot easier for United than for Leeds and Burnley. We have 2 at home and they only have 1. We have 3 against relegation threatened teams and 1 against a mid table nothing to play for team. Burnley have 2 away games at play off hopefuls (Cov and Watford) and Leeds 1 (Boro).

Conservatively, I'd expect United to get 2 to 3 points more than Leeds or Burnley from those fixtures, which would see us going into the Burnley game 4-5 ahead of both.

That would see us needing a win at Burnley to go up. My feeling is we'll probably lose or draw and seal promotion at Stoke the following week.
