The edge.
Would you start with the same 11 that have just done Fulham in there own back yard?
I`d go-
GK.
Howard.
Brayford. Big H. Collins. Harris.

Mcginn.
Flynn. Murphy.
Scougall. Baxter.

Miller.

Thought the tactics were spot on,but i`d` put Baxter in for Coady, and Miller up top for the Tiring Porter.
Playing not to concede may be ugly, but keeping clean sheets and catching teams on the break may be the solution.

I fear whichever team we put out we will struggle for goals. I'd go for the team you suggest - pending the arrival of a striker on loan......

whatever the team is, please, please NC don't pick Porter. He's the only striker I've ever seen who stands 6' tall, but when he 'leaps' for a ball, is only 4'6". And if he is unfortunate enough to win the ball, loses it immediately...

If Porter had still been on instead of Miller, we wouldn't have scored, instead the ball would have bobbled off Porters knee and he would have turned away looking exasperated, again.

*sigh*

Mind you, he's 100 times better than me!!

As the player he replaced was Scougal, surely you should be asking if he would have been there rather than Porter ? Porter would have been at the back post with Maguire and Collins

for me that team is too small and we could lose out when the tackles are flying in.. I would play Coady for Scougall and Paynter for Miller

Yep, Porter is absolutely appalling. Mark my words, we'll never see him score against a Premiership team for us - certainly not against a team like Fulham.

Fully agree. we must have a team that doesnt have too many small players

Coady to start in the middle. Baxter on the bench. Otherwise agree.

Think we'll see Porter start with Paynter replacing him if required though.

We've had some good results in live TV games this season, but we don't seem to do well the following game:

  • Notts County - 2-1 win, then lost 1-2 vs Burton at home
  • Colchester - 3-2 away win, then lost 1-2 vs Gillingham at home
  • Aston Villa - 2-1 away win, then lost 1-2 at Notts County
  • Fulham - 1-1 home draw (with ten men), then lost 0-3 at Crewe
  • Fulham - 1-0 away win, then....?

Will we learn from past mistakes?

Even though I said in the other thread that I'm sitting on the fence re: goalkeeper I would go with:-

Long
Brayford Maguire Collins Harris
Flynn Coady Scougall Murphy
Porter Miller

Against fellow strugglers at home we should be able to go two up top with an attacking looking midfield.

Every time I see him he seems to be getting better and better.

With his contract up at the end of the season, I'd be happy if we signed him permanently.
I didn't know that. I'd definitely be all for signing him up permanently. Not sure he has enough to force his way in at Liverpool but he can come and be regular for us.

I'd go with that as well, although with Porter having come off injured in his last two starts I'd be tempted to rest him completely, start Baxter and if needed bring on Paynter.

I ❤️ Scoogs. Don't leave him out.

Delighted to see Miller back on the scoresheet but would start Paynter and leave Shaun on the bench for another (very) late impact. We do need a few bigger lads in there.

I'm guessing Nigel was impressed with McGinn and Coady and will start them together. It's then whether Jose or Scoogs play just behind the centre-forward. Personally I would play them both. Players win matches but organisation is important as NC has demonstrated in our cup run. Let's tear up the League now in the same way.

Anyway:
Howard's End

Bearded Wonder
Jerry Maguire
Joan Collins
Whispering Bob

Errol Flynn
Buffalo Bill
Scoogs
Eddie Murphy

Stanley Baxter
Vincent Van Gogh

McGinn unlucky.

I actually thought Baxter did pretty well when put up front last night, though we did then lose a presence when the ball went into the box. I think at home in a league game Clough will revert to using Paynter with Baxter behind.

I think we will see McGinn, Coady, and Baxter start, as you say Pinchy .

4-1-4-1
----------------------Howard
Brayford Maguire Collins Harris
---------------------McGinn
Flynn Scougall Baxter Murphy
---------------------Paynter

Talking of Saturday... Any news on the state of the pitch? More terrible weather today with rain forecast for tomorrow and Saturday (we may get some restbite Friday)...

Porter came off with tight hamstring on tues. With paynter available and needing games can't see porter being risked.

I was impressed with his passion after we scored- in Foxy's video he turns as they are walking back, and gives one last roar at the fans. He looks genuinely pumped by it. That's the passion we need to stay up, let's hope it continues

I'd go with...
Howard (just)
Brayford Harry Collins Harris
Flynn Scougall Coady Murphy
Baxter
Miller

I know people have said we need some height so Paynter should start but he was DIRE against Crewe, as were the rest of the team, but he was exceptionally bad.

So a 6-0 win to Shrews. :(

You never saw Jostein Flo then :D

Seriously though, we have to start and take the Cup form into the league, and the style of play. We've proved that we can do it so pick the best players, select the right tactics and we should be ok.

Being pedantic here (for a change! :p) but Colchester and Villa weren't on TV. :tumbleweed:

However, I get the general point

For me he's got to start miller and baxter we looked that bit more dangerous going forwards with them two on

Howard
Brayford Maguire Collins Harris
Flynn McGinn Coady Murphy
Scougall
Baxter

I like Coady, however if his contract is up at the end of the season & liverpool dont keep him. Id expect him to goto a Championship side.

I expect he will get another year at Liverpool though.

Unto the team for saturday. I would set us up as a quick-fire counter attacking team. Although we are at hom we need to be drawing teams out at us & then hit them on the break.
