Cameron Archer - Quite an achievement

Can't believe all the hate he gets from some of our fans he was wasted in the shower of sh*t team that we had that season where we were doomed to failure.

I would take him back at the lane in a heartbeat.
I think as john street mentioned, only reason he gets any negativity is due to his attitude of not wanting to be here and looking half arsed last season (same with all the squad, bar robbo).

I do think we should be worried if he signs for leeds/burnley or Sunderland.

He didn't look arsed, but he certainly wasn't alone in that.

He wasn't our worst player and I'd have him back, but obviously CW knows infinitely more about his character than some random blokes on a forum.

No he wasn't many couldn't be arsed and didn't want to be here, anel was one and souza another but both have been redeeming themselves this season.

I trust cw judge of character compared with anyone else with our club,.

I’d have thought that he is the type of player that Southampton would want for next season, unless he’s just going on loan which would be a great move.

They have no real need for a striker this season, so he may as well go to the Championship and get his eye in for next season whilst also getting him off the wage bill

He has a relegation clause that allows him to be sold for an agreed amount.

Southampton are trying to get more money by selling him early

That's the big rumour from the Leeds side

That’s a good little scam he’s got going if true, sign for a newly promoted team, insist on a relegation clause in your contract, activate it and pocket a fresh signing on fee when moving to next seasons promotion favourites, safe in the knowledge that the new team will inevitably also get relegated.

Where upon, you rinse and repeat 😉

Can't stand this cunt

Football has lost any kind of control over the players - it's a feckin greedy circus these days and blokes like Archer who are prepared to move around can make themselves a fortune without ever doing anything of merit.

I have to put a lot of effort into ignoring their mercenary characters , otherwise the side of football which sickens me would tip me into giving up my lifelong loyalty to my club.

Had Archer not looked like he'd given up last season (imo it looked like he gave up towards the end), I think us fans might have been a bit more fond of his time with us, I think he found the premier league to be a lot harder than he might have expected, given how good he was in the championship.

Think BBD coming in and playing out of his skin in pretty much every game he played just further reinforced the idea that Archer had given up.

Compare that with some of our other players, like Osborn, Robbo, Brewster (in a way) and Norwood, all of whom were criticized last season and before for their own mistakes and poor form, but I don't think you could fault any of them for a lack of effort as they always worked hard and put a shift in.

Look at Souza and compare him from this season and last season, this season he puts the effort in and he's arguably one of the best players in the league, probably even the best CDM in the league.

Hard to believe, but statistically this season has actually been worse for him than last year. 2 goals (last year he had 3 goals after the same amount of games) in a team with an even worse record.

His confidence must be shattered at this point compared to what it was in his Boro days.

Archer reminded me of a South American player you buy from a decent Brazilian side.

You can see that Archer is super talented….some of his finishing was well above Championship standard
But his heart never seemed to be in it…..his body language was terrible, on a cold and windy day it often looked like he didn’t want to be out on the pitch.
Also as he often looked lazy and disinterested. Think the contract might have been at fault…..no incentive knowing he would return to Villa when the season ended.

Total opposite to Ben Brereton Diaz who last season, played like a fan, always giving 100% with his swashbuckling all action style.

Regards Archer think he definitely has potential to be a regular PL standard striker.
In the right team wouldn’t surprise if he re-sparks his careeer.

We won’t see that swashbuckling style this season tho

so so wrong slating players i dont agree some didnt work out but no need to have a go on here i think cameron archer is great lad a good striker and i wish we had him back he was class what about that wonder goal by him at home v everton in front of the kop that was special hey him back buy him im sure the gaffer could fire him up again he would be a good asset at the lane, chow

Subbed on late by Southampton yesterday, given the ball just outside his teams penalty area, got pressed and coughed up like a baby giving up candy, walked after his ball robber as he powered into the penalty area.

Cameron Archer is a disgrace of a footballer. An absolute mercenary who steals a living.

... he's also the type of forward that needs service to be effective and in the last 67 PL games his PL clubs (SU, Southampton) have played they've managed just 25 points..

There's strong rumours he's going to go to Leeds if they go up next season but it'll probably just be a repeat for him.
He's a yo-yo player, not unlike Adam Armstrong. Great in Tier 2, not quite up to Tier 1.

The thing is, and I know no one is simply handed an opportunity, but I think if you put him in a better side with a better creative output, he'd bag more. A Palace or similar, for example.

Palace, Wolves etc. have (at least medium height) skilfull athletes in their forward line. What would they want with Archer?

I think he'll do a bit better in a Leeds team. Would fit into the way they play. He's a better striker than Piroe and he's doing extremely well.

Another one of those players that doesn't try his arse but gets every excuse in the book from his admirers in here

Top teams where he might thrive usually expect their players to work hard so I can't see him being a success anywhere until that changes

I am inclined to agree.
