Ah thanks. So, any idea what’s the connection with the mighty Blades?
I’m guessing as it’s recently gone through a renovation and the Sheffield United is a new addition to the building it will be the owner/developer who is a Blade possibly.

A bit more delving says John Armitage had a clayworks at Deepcar and a warehouse on Devonshire street in the late 1800s. They had offices in both Sheffield and. Manchester, but I still can’t find a connection to United. Maybe he was an early director, but why it would be important to put this on a recent renovation project in Manchester is unclear.

The names on the building like armitrage & son had long been removed and were blank before renovation. But even though there was no trace of them on the building in recent times it would make most sense if it was a nod to the past history of the building. Think the building passed hands a few times since then, most recently from the council to Great Places Housing, although Great Place is a Manchester area company it now has a big Sheffield connection having branched out from the North West into the Sheffield area, loads of work around Sheffield, building housing in Kelham Island and doing up Park Hill flats are two notable projects they’ve done. So wouldn’t be surprised if it’s just a Blades fan high up or has some ownership in the company. Still very strange to put the name up on a Manchester building though if that was the case.

Supposed to be Bassett's first match in the next day but match was postponed
We were supposed to play Plymouth on 23 January. Bassett’s first game ended up being the Portsmouth FA Cup tie on 1 February.

Interesting to see Martin Kuhl in the photo. He never played after the 0-5 debacle v Oldham in McEwan’s last game on 2 January. He was swapped for Agana, Hetherston and 40 grand on 19 February.
