Hecky and McCall

Bit of a disgrace there wasn't any recognition of what they did for the club. Especially considering we might well have gone into administration if we'd not gone up.

Shameful from the club.
Yes. There should have been some recognition prior to the game starting - although there was some applause from the South Stand for Hecky when he appeared on the touchline

Did Wilder also get any special recognition from the club when he came back with Boro? Warnock? Bassett? I don't recall but it would be a little strange to award a returning ex manager right before playing them
I seem to recall that Wilder got a mention from
Sinclair at the Boro game, then he turned us around to kick towards the kop and we handed his team their arses 🤣

Whilst I don’t think we should do anything formal before a game as it’s a bit pathetic, the fact that the fans clapped Hecky today was respectful and how it should be. Fuck Ched though.

That's how it should be, applaud returning players and managers, but it would be a bit weird to do much more than that

I agree, we should have had a minutes applause on 6 minutes for McCalls shoe size, another minutes applause on 8 minutes for Heckys shoe size, a minutes applause on 14 minutes for McCalls shirt collar size, a minutes applause on 15 minutes for Heckys shirt size... Fucking hell will it ever stop. Can we ever go to a football match to watch the game and not be made to feel guilty about not joining in the minutes applause on 53 minutes for somebody's Auntie Doris's budgie that choked on an oversized fucking trill seed?

Just go and watch the game for fucks sake, it's a football match, or am I being old fashioned?

This is true. It’s not every day that the manager who oversaw our heaviest home defeat since 1891 is back at the lane.

Absolutely not. Just as people shouldn't have sung songs about Ched Evans. Clap him by all means but don't venerate. Yes, he was innocent. But if he hadn't behaved like a dickhead we would have been promoted and them lot could have malingered for a while longer.

I'm really not sure if Ched was "innocent" but there wasn't enough evidence to say without any reasonable doubt that he was guilty.
Either way, pretty shitty behaviour and a section of our fan base has let itself down for a long time in it's hero worship of him (some of the old chants were disgusting).

As for Heckingbottom, agree with the OP.
Really poor from the club.
He held himself with a lot of class during his time here. Kept a lid on the internal shit storm and probably saved the club from administration by getting promotion and an FA Cup semi-final.
The relegation was 100% on the owners that sent him into a gunfight with a water pistol.

We had some great times under him and I'd argue the football, whilst not great, was better than what we're seeing now (Championship).

Auntie Doris's budgie died?

Should have at least warranted a mention in the Death Pool thread.

Agree 100% well said there are prob 90 blades fans die between matches are we expected to sit and clap every match.
And with the new craze of stopping matches for it is step too far

Yes, he did.

All it needs before the team are announced is.

"I'm sure you'll join me in welcoming back....."

and that gives the fans the chance to clap if they want.

Fans are very quick to state that players/managers should want to join such a great club but then the club has to do the right thing by ex staff.

I agree about the endless budgie request, but I do feel there are exceptions, for instance the young lad stabbed recently, there it served two purposes, to acknowledge the passing of a young Blade in tragic circumstances, but also a message about the damage knife crime is doing to individuals and society as a whole. I do understand and appreciate the grief of those wanting the applause for there departed loved ones, but for me, it is something I think is impacting on the game overall and I wont be taking part. Of course when my time comes, as the biggest blade ever, I expect at least 10 minutes of clapping by the 10 people in the ground who actually knew me. 😂 😂 😂 😂

We have little idea what the club did for them yesterday.

We know the club didn't give fans the opportunity to show their appreciation.
Does everything have to be stage managed & choreographed? Plenty of fans showed their appreciation. I’m pretty sure that Hecky & Stuart will have left the ground last night knowing the high regard in which they are generally held by fans.

Agree with the general point, but some classic reverse-snowflakeism going on there.

Oh people are so precious nowadays, everyone wants a minutes applause for everything, everyone should have to care about your personal tragedies blah blah.

But also, it makes me feel guilty when I choose not to join in. My feelings matter and I shouldn't have to feel that way, so please stop. 🤣

We know the club didn't give fans the opportunity to show their appreciation.

Write him a letter then Robbie, send him a message on socials, contact his agent. Fans have had every opportunity to let him know their appreciation, from the minute he left if they wanted to. You don't have to wait for the signal to clap, over a year later 😆. Always something to moan about.

The problem with a lot of these minute's applauses is that unless you constantly follow social media, you haven't a clue what the applause is for and you have the dilemma as to whether to join in and clap or sit on your hands wondering what it's all about - risking a guilty conscience later when you find out and wish you'd joined in
