Player Suggestion Jimmy Dunne

I'm guessing Darling isn't the back up choice to Dunne because id guess Darling would be more expensive than Dunne so it could be a totally different name all together if we don't sign Dunne.

I really liked Liam Kitching from Coventry but he's back in the Coventry team now whereas before Lampard was overlooking him.
He sounds expensive

CW has firmly assured us that all our top targets want to come to us.
This makes sense in Dunne's case because
1. Being a parachute club we must be able to offer much bigger wages than QPR (despite the wealth of their owners) because we have much bigger income (the parachute) and so can tolerate much bigger costs under FFP.
2. We'll be able to include a promotion bonus which has a decent chance of being paid , as things stand.
3. He'll have the prospect of PL.

I can't see a downside for Jimmy apart from having to go app norf.

The Rs haven't said "not for sale at any price" nor have they said they'll table a lucrative contract for him.

So I reckon they are just testing how high we'll go. And the higher we have to go , the lower the signing-on fee we'll offer Jimmy. So his own club's greed will hurt him.

All he has to do is say he isn't in the right frame of mind to play this weekend and then the club will see which way the wind is blowing and stop bickering over the fee.

Whether he is callous enough to do this is another matter , especially as he's a bit of a hero at Loftus Road.

But we can't afford to be messed about.
Woolfenden has just signed a new contract at Ipswich , so it rather looks like it's Dunne or Darling.
So with only 2 real options , should we be putting in a bid for Darling now , to test the water at Swansea ?

(I don't know whether it's frowned upon to make bids for two players if you intend to sign only one of them ?)

I expect him to play tomorrow if QPR haven't decided they're selling him. He's played every minute this season and will want to continue that. I don't think he's the type to refuse to play and he'd potentially want to say goodbye to their fans. We'll see. If he does play I wouldn't read into it too much. He could still easily end up here on Monday

TBF, by all accounts we had loan offers in place for both Joe Worrell and Mason Holgate at the same time in January last year.

Can't imagine it would be too different for permanent transfers.

Made his Burnley debut against Blades in the league cup in the second COVID season as well, 1-1 and we lost on penalties, Wes Foderingham made his debut for us that night as well.

Saw him a few times during his (loan) spell @ Hearts & he appeared decent - ‘no nonsense’ CH
Sun’lun supporters of my acquaintance have similar +ve views of his (loan) period with them.
Needs to be contextualised by him playing in SPL & ‘3rd divison’ albeit as a (relative) bairn - aged 21/22

we could possibly get them both for a combined 5m were really short at cb with robbo and rnd no more than back ups imo i really hope we go for both would be a great double signing add to that the fact that both score from set pieces and corners something we rarely do

How much do they want for him?
They're not gonna say , apart from keep telling us "higher , higher !"
They know we're in dire straits at CB , so market value and the 6 months left on his contract are irrelevant.
In just over 4 months he's potentially been the key to an auto slot for us , so they know what our calculations involve and we are not spoiling the ship for a ha'porth o' tar.
They can smell our desperation.

The center back position is the difference between automatic and play offs I think and should've been addressed as first priority in this wiwindow

Makes me laugh this continual assumption from our fans that the club is just dithering about and leaving stuff till the last minute all the time on purpose.

I'm sure wilder knew we desperately needed a new center back but Souttar for us is just totally unreplaceable. Clubs don't want to sell players and when they do they want over inflated prices because its the middle of the season.

Who do we get exactly? Wilder said the players he wanted all wanted to come but obviously due to the clubs changing goal posts they aren't all here. It's not always down to our club.

£2m + wages for a right back to play LCB? I'd just sign a good player in another position and make do/sign a back up
Have you looked at goals conceded with and without Souttar ?
We don't do our best to replace him and we sink our own ship for a ha'porth o' tar.
We give up any chance of autos unless we get a truly competent CB with the presence to lead the defence and that is neither Anel nor Robbo.

I fully agree. Though the mental image of Wilder lounging around tonight, ringing up Bettis and going

"oi Steve, I need a centre half, you've got while Monday, cheers"

is hilarious to me

The goals conceded number with Souttar was unsustainable regardless. Go and create more chances/score more goals because putting a right back at LCB is not guaranteeing any improvement.

"Sign anyone who can play centre back" is not the same as signing a competent, lead CB to help shore up a few of the more obvious errors

Dunne and Darling both a bit in the Lewis Dunk, Dan Burn mould. Both late developers with years outside P.L. Not easy to judge who can swim before thrown into the PL pool.
But they are decent PL CBs now , which is encouraging 🙂

So should we have not signed BBD, Cannon, Choudhury and Clarke when they were available, because the CB(s) we have identified, aren't?

I am fairly sure that a CB shot to the top of the list as soon as Souttar got crocked, but it was widely accepted before then that we already needed a LW, striker and CM. So the recruitment teams will have been working on deals for those players for much longer. Therefore it's no surprise they have come through the door quicker.

United been light in at center back all season when trusty was sold in August we needed back up anyway sold for 6m probably good business but not reinvested back into squad am sure wilder wanted cover back then before shutter got injured

Nothing is guaranteed but a 6'3" CB who attacks aerial balls and has been a fan favourite has to improve our defence , even though he's played as a giant RB recently.

Why does he "have to improve our defence"? He's not a very good CB, which is why he's playing a less valuable position

[I'm not keen on either, but would prefer Darling on the basis he is actually a CB.
Darling is also a decent footballer on the deck which could be useful if we're going down the Souza / Choudhury axis.
So you’re not keen on either but then go on to make a very good case for signing Darling 🤔

I'd also be happy to sign both him and Darling. They'd be good foundations for the squad, and we need them in that area.
I agree, not least because I don’t expect Anel to be here next season whichever division we’re in. I think we need 3, possibly 4 CBs between now & the start of next season.
