yeah just right back and centre back now dunne and woofenden would be my choices lots on here not keen on dunne but their forgetting he can play centre back or right back he would be very handy in our current situation
We don't need another Gilchrist can play right back centre back type. We need a big fuck off centre back who wins everything that comes into the box. Then Gilchrist and Robbo can be back ups assuming a better right back comes in.

Does anyone know, if Des Taylor is still part of our recruitment team?
I thought the standard of our recruitment improved significantly when he was involved in the summer.
This window seems to be a more wilder led window,eg Brereton Diaz, and Hamza both played for him before.
Hope Taylor is still involved, as I have more confidence in him than whoever brought in the likes of Grbic.

I think he is, but I think this is a case of Wilder believing knows what he needs to get us over the line.

If we don't go up I feel we will see lot less Wilder type signings and more influence from those behind the scenes.

any suggestions then ? 🤔

Funnily enough I'm not part of our recruiting team and have another job 🤷‍♂️

However I'd narrow it down to 6ft 3in and taller, physically imposing (ie not 6 3 and skinny) and with some experience.
They did a great job in identifying Souttar and I m sure they've got other irons in the fire but hopefully not a right back hybrid type.

Off the top of my head and at a reasonable price Rob Dickie? Hopefully the experts at the club can identify better

Players with 6 months left.

Josh Brownhill out of contract in the summer 😳, would walk into our team.

I know we've criticized United for letting Ndiaye and Berge run their deals down to 1 year (and maybe rightly so) but how on earth Burnley allowed him to run his deal down to 6 months without either signing a new contract or cashing in on him is bizarre.

Jimmy Dunne and Harry Darling we've already been linked with.

Wouldn't mind Djiksteel and Gunn regardless of whether or not we get promoted this season.

Ipswich defender Harry Clarke having medical with view to season long loan. Sky news earlier..

Totally agree with your desired characteristics.
Rob Dickie is a great shout but he's under contract till summer 26.
Difficult to winkle him out of a wealthy club like Hargreaves Lansdowne FC.
We'd need to offer big wages but we'd get a good lad.

Clarke's got to be the most underwhelming signing for a long time. Barely a whimper of applause

Think Wilders better with these signings than the big cheque book ones.

Baldock, Stevens, JOC all were virtually unknown and cheap.

I would imagine wages and loan fees plus the 10 million for Cannon make these signings big cheque book ones.

If Burnley don't go up he's gone. As you say, walks into our team in a midfield 2 or 3. Gerrim in.

Keep getting this nagging feeling that we may have messed this window up.

Getting in good players but are they what we need... almost like can't find the right jigsaw piece so just shoved a piece which is close enough in there instead.

Cannon - good player, but not sure suits the way we build our attacks and certainly not as a lone striker.

Choudhury- again good midfielder, but is he the right type of midfielder that we need or is he too similar to what we already have.

BBD - Again we know what he can do, but looks very rusty and a little overweight, will he be able to get up to speed and get going in time for the final charge.

Harry Clarke - Doesn't seem like was ever our first choice. Is he going to be a upgrade on what we've already got?

I might be totally off the mark here, (and I hope I am!) but like I said originally, just get the feeling these signings are gonna affect our squad dynamics and all a little mismatched.

I mean signings like Clarke aren't big budget signings like Brewster etc were.

Wilder usually has good success in signing cheaper players that aren't well known compared to spending millions on players we all know.

Wouldn’t say we’ve messed up the window… but I do feel like the number 1 requirement hasn’t been ticked off yet. The CB was for me the number 1 priority. I think we should have pushed the boat out for one instead of for cannon - who I’m not sure is better than Campbell.

Cannon - big gamble. We need goals but we also need to give him service for him to have any impact. I think we can judge him more when hamer / o’hare and some actual CMs are playing. If he gets 4/6 goals and wins us some games it will be money well spent. Key will be getting a partnership with some of the other forwards

BBD - can’t knock this one. Get him fit and ready and he could be a big player. Scored goals in a HOPELESS side which was over matched in every department in the PL. as well as being another option so we don’t rely on one who’s not ready yet. Has more than done it at this level

Choudhury - done well at this level, experienced promotion and we needed CM cover. Think he’s certainly a decent option but hope we don’t get sucked into playing him and Souza and it lacks some creativity to feed the likes of cannon. Seems like he gives everything as well .

Clarke - can’t honestly recall having seen him play so cant judge him yet. At the very least he might mean gilchrist can fill in at CM and gives us an option. There sounds like more attacking cover while Seriki proves his fitness to me.

If we add a perm CB i.e. a Dunne / Darling who are OOC and potentially available at a decent fee. I think it’s a very good window over all. Not necessarily my first choices in any position, but solid overall.

I’d maybe have switched cannon for someone like Woolfenden on a perm. And gone for someone in the Doyle mould rather than Hamza but happy enough with the business we’ve done

Shame we didn’t find a Souttar replacement, but that was always going to be a big ask

Thats the second time you've said he's over weight
Don't know why you have to make stuff up

DOOM MONGER ALERT

I'm still super positive, I actually think we'll still go up even miraculously if means through the playoffs. Just not sure as much about autos spot 🙂👍
i understand your concern jono but i slightly disagree with you if we can get harry darling in this week i think its been a good window its a 50/50 shot that these signings come off and a 50/50 shot that we finish top 2 and im more optimistic of finishing top 2 with these signings than without them we will have a much stronger bench for a start

Fair points on all those players, especially as we need them to gel quickly as 2 of them (BBD and Clarke) are definite starters at the moment while the other 2 (Cannon and Choudhury) are potential starters.

BBD: I'll agree that this signing is a bit of a risk given his lack of game time, but it's a risk worth taking as we know how good he is at Championship level, and he provides cover for our most creative player and arguably 1 of the best players in the league (if not the best), Hamer, also allowing us to possibly play Hamer in his natural CM position.

Cannon: When we subbed Campbell off and later when he was injured, we lost a significant goal threat as Campbell was the only natural goalscoring striker we had (and his absence demonstrated this), Cannon has that same natural finish which we missed while Campbell wasn't playing, 2 natural finishers are better than 1 imo, especially as Campbell (as good as he has been) has yet to play 90 minutes for us, something Cannon, Brewster and Moore have all managed this season.

Choudhury: Similar to the Cannon/Campbell situation only this one concerns Souza, we've seen how easy it is for teams to get through our midfield when Souza isn't playing (as we lack that steel and tenacity), while Choudhury isn't as good (ability wise) as Souza, he should give us that same steel in midfield that Souza does.

Matt Clarke: Might not have been our first choice for RB but last few games it's become necessary that we sign a RB ( Seriki fitness and Gilchrists loss of form), as for JJK, I'd say the jokes on Hertha Berlin as we quickly got another target in, while they're now stuck with a player who doesn't want to be there and will now leave for nothing in the summer.

We have gone for some solid, robust signings, adding experience and strength to the group. If we get another centre half in, we should definitely be stronger defensively.

The question is if we have enough creativity, finesse and flair to get us the goals we need. On only one occasion have we scored twice in a match. We are 19th in terms of big chances created, although we score from them more than most. I think we'll keep being very reliant on Hamer and we must hope that Rak-Sakyi gets back to form and that O'Hare will contribute. Seriki and Campbell staying fit could also be important, as they can give us pace and movement.

With so many additions, the dynamics of the team may also change. A more solid midfield with Souza and Choudury may lack creativity. But if they allow our flair players more freedom and maybe make us attack with a bit more urgency we could score more goals from fast transitions and counter attacking. It will be interesting to see how we plan to make it work.
